5h agoThe Cardinals have opted not to pick up Collins' fifth-year option, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
This move is somewhat of a surprise, as Collins' started all 33 games he has played the previous two seasons, and he projects to continue starting at defensive end in 2024. He did see his production decrease this past year in the tackle department, dropping from 100 (63) in 2022 to 41 (27 solo) in 2023. The 24-year-old is now heading into a contract year and will look to prove his value accordingly.

Boston Scott PHI RBRams' Boston Scott: Fresh start in LA
5h agoScott agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Rams on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Scott spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia, but he will now get a fresh start in Los Angeles. While he was never a major part of the Eagles' offense during his tenure, he saw his role as a third-down back shrink during the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old will presumably be behind Kyren Williams and rookie Blake Corum on the Rams' depth chart, and Scott will compete with Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans for the No. 3 role.

Davis spent most of the 2023 season on Arizona's practice squad. The Cardinals drafted a pair of wideouts in last week's NFL Draft, so Davis will look for work elsewhere.

6h agoFollowing the 2024 NFL Draft, Stidham is joined in the Broncos' QB room by newcomer Zach Wilson, along with No. 12 overall pick Bo Nix, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
After the Broncos released Russell Wilson last month, it was inevitable that they would add QB depth to join Stidham, who started Denver's final two contests last season. While Nix is no doubt being groomed as the team's future starter, it remains to be seen if he'll step into that role immediately. Until then, Stidham and Wilson will presumably both have an opportunity to compete for the No. 1 role, but neither veteran signal-caller profiles as a high-value fantasy option in either re-draft or dynasty formats.

James Conner ARI RBCardinals' James Conner: Leader of improved backfield
6h agoRookie third-round pick Trey Benson is unlikely to take Conner's starting job but may eventually force a timeshare in the Cardinals' backfield, according to KC Joyner of The Athletic.
Conner has missed multiple games in each of his seven NFL seasons, though never more than six in any one year, so any competition for touches could sort itself out. His 2023 included career highs for rushing yards (1,040) and yards per carry (5.0), with the downside being his fewest targets (33) and catches (27, 2.1 per game) since he was a barely-used rookie with Pittsburgh in 2017. The lack of receiving volume was partially a product of Emari Demercado getting playing time in passing situations, and it's worth noting that the Cardinals have two other backs in Michael Carter, DeeJay Dallas with track records as passing-down specialists. That said, Conner still figures to be the starter and lead runner, with Benson being the main threat to poach carries and TDs even if other guys are in the mix on passing downs.

7h agoThe Packers drafted MarShawn Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft to join Jacobs and AJ Dillon in their remade backfield, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic report.
The decision to release Aaron Jones and sign Jacobs as a replacement likely had a lot to do with the latter being younger, larger and more capable of handling big workloads. It's nonetheless a bit difficult to project Jacobs' touch/snap counts for the upcoming season, as coach Matt LaFleur has almost always used a two-back approach when he's had his top two RBs healthy. On the other hand, there were many instances when LaFleur leaned heavily on Jones or Dillon, or Jamaal Williams before that, when one of Green Bay's top backs wasn't available, rather than giving a third-stringer a larger role. The extent of Jacobs' usage may depend on LaFleur's confidence in Dillon and/or Lloyd moreso than Jacobs' perceived ability to take on huge workloads. Dillon plodded through 2023 and has seen his YPC drop each of his seasons in the NFL, while Lloyd looks faster and more explosive but comes with glaring ball-security issues after fumbling eight times on 325 touches during his college career.

5m agoGaddis (1-1) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit with one strikeout across two-thirds of an inning against Houston.
Gaddis took the mound in the 10th with a one-run lead but surrendered a two-out, two-run walk-off homer to Victor Caratini. Gaddis has logged a blown save in three straight appearances -- his only save chances of the campaign -- with six runs (five earned) allowed across three innings after failing to surrender a run in his first 12.1 innings of action.

11m agoCarrasco didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Houston, allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.
Carrasco should be considered lucky to have ended up with anything other than a loss, having surrendered three-run home runs to Jon Singleton and Alex Bregman and tying his career high in runs allowed. After keeping the ball in the yard in each of his first four starts, Carrasco has given up five long balls in his past two appearances, a span in which he has yielded 13 runs with a 7:3 K:BB over nine innings. Carrasco's tentatively scheduled for a matchup against the Angels on Sunday.

14m agoWells went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Orioles.
Wells got the Yankees on the board in the third inning, leading off the frame with a 414-foot blast off Dean Kremer, his first of the season. The 24-year-old Wells has started to turn things around at the plate -- he's now 7-for-16 with three extra-base hits in his last four games after going 0-for-21 in his previous nine contests. Wells is now slashing .196/.338/.294 with seven runs scored and three RBI through 65 plate appearances this season while sharing catching duties with Jose Trevino.

Nestor Cortes NYY SPYankees' Nestor Cortes: Falls to Baltimore
20m agoCortes (1-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Orioles, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.
Three of Baltimore's four runs off Cortes came in the fourth inning, as the 29-year-old left-hander took a second straight loss. Cortes had gone seven innings in each of his previous two outings, allowing just three runs while striking out 13 in that span. His ERA now sits at 3.86 with a 1.10 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB across seven starts (42 innings). Cortes is currently scheduled to face the Tigers at home in his next start.

The beginning of Tuesday's contest was delayed roughly two hours after a bee colony formed on the net behind home plate, and the lengthy delay will cause Montgomery to sit down while Brandon Hughes starts in a bullpen game. Montgomery's next start will likely be pushed back to Wednesday.

Tauchman had half of Chicago's hits in the sluggish loss, pushing his season average up to .307 in the process. With Seiya Suzuki (oblique) and Cody Bellinger (ribs) both on the injured list, Tauchman has seen plenty of playing time recently, and the veteran has responded. He should remain a solid short-term fantasy asset, though his long-term outlook is a bit murkier, as it depends on how quickly the other outfielders are able to return to the lineup.

2h agoHarris is out for the remainder of Tuesday's game versus the Cavaliers due to a right hamstring strain, Cody Taylor of USA Today reports. He will end the contest with zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and two blocks in 19 minutes.
In Harris' absence, Markell Fultz, Cole Anthony and Anthony Black are all candidates to receive increased playing time. Harris' next chance to suit up is Game 6 on Friday.

Lillard will miss his second straight contest Tuesday after being downgraded from doubtful to out with a right Achilles strain. Malik Beasley will likely draw another start in his absence. If Milwaukee is able to win Game 5, Lillard's next chance to suit up will come in Game 6 on Thursday.

DiPietro is likely up with the Bruins as an emergency third goalie for the playoffs. He signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with the Bruins in March, setting him up to once again fill an organizational depth role in 2024-25.

DeAngelo was able to return after the incident, but the Hurricanes will give him further evaluation after clinching their first-round series win. The defenseman had no points in three games after replacing Brett Pesce (lower body) in the lineup. DeAngelo's status should be updated before the start of the Hurricanes' second-round series versus the Rangers.

Silovs will get the nod after stopped 27 of 30 shots in a 4-3 overtime win over the Predators on Sunday. The 23-year-old will start over Casey DeSmith, who has recovered from a lower-body injury enough to be able to serve as the backup. A win Tuesday for the Canucks will send them to the second round.
