Panthers' T.J. Smith: Agrees to terms with Carolina
10h agoThe Panthers signed Smith on Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Smith bounced back and forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster over the course of his three-year NFL career, but he's now found a new home in Carolina. The 27-year-old defensive lineman has appeared in four games during his time in the league, recording 11 total tackles while playing 108 total snaps (86 defensive, 22 on special teams). He's expected to compete for a backup role in the Panthers defense as the offseason advances.

Jared Goff DET QB
Lions' Jared Goff: Lands four-year, $212M extension
10h agoThe Lions signed Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The deal contains $170 million guaranteed, and Goff is now the highest-paid player in Lions franchise history. The 2016 No. 1 overall pick of the Rams, Goff was acquired from Los Angeles in the Matthew Stafford haul from the 2021 offseason and has resurrected his career under Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. In three seasons with Detroit, Goff has completed 66.5 percent of his passes, up from 63.4 percent with Los Angeles, and has thrown for 12,258 yards with a splendid 78:27 TD:INT. He's lowered his turnover rate with Detroit and just helped lead the team to the NFC Championship Game last season. Goff is still just 29 years old and is locked in with the Lions for at least the next few seasons.

Ty France SEA 1B
Mariners' Ty France: Belts third homer
1m agoFrance went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Royals in a 6-2 win Monday.
France provided a pair of insurance runs with his two-run, eighth-inning blast that doubled Seattle's lead from two to four. The long ball was his first since April 27, and during the 13-game homerless stretch he had batted just .191 with a 2:15 BB:K. France's offensive numbers are down across the board this season, with a significant contributing factor being a 24.3 percent strikeout rate that is on pace for his worst mark since his 2019 rookie campaign.
-
Alexis Diaz CIN RP
Reds' Alexis Diaz: Blows save Monday
3m agoDiaz (1-2) allowed two runs on a hit, a hit batsman and two walks without striking out a batter in one-third of an inning to take the loss and a blown save Monday versus the Diamondbacks.
Diaz loaded the bases with back-to-back one-out walks, and Kevin Newman delivered the walk-off two-run single. This was Diaz's first blown save since his season debut, but he's hardly been dominant lately, allowing seven runs with a 5:6 K:BB over his last 3.2 innings. The closer has a 6.75 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 16:12 K:BB while converting seven of nine save chances through 14.2 innings on the year.

The 29-year-old was batting just .218 through the end of April, but he's now at .266 with a strong start to May. Though nine games this month, he's gone 9-for-24 (.375) with two long balls, six RBI and seven runs.

Royals' Brady Singer: Falls to Mariners
16m agoSinger (3-2) took the loss against Seattle on Monday, allowing four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out six batters over five innings.

Singer still has a strong 2.84 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through nine starts on the campaign, and he's tossed at least five frames in each of his outings thus far.

The first baseman has struggled in May, going 8-for-38 (.211) over 11 contests this month. He's still slashing a decent .265/.377/.437 with seven home runs, 27 RBI, 29 runs scored and five doubles over 42 contests overall.

LeVert got the starting nod with the Cavaliers playing without Jarrett Allen (ribs) and Donovan Mitchell (calf), providing a lift offensively while ending one point shy of the 20-point mark in a losing effort. LeVert has been a key player coming off the bench for Cleveland this series, posting 15 or more points in three of the four games against Boston. If Mitchell is able to return for Game 5, look for LeVert to return to the second unit to be a spark off the bench.
