3h agoThe Cardinals have opted not to pick up Collins' fifth-year option, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
This move is somewhat of a surprise, as Collins' started all 33 games he has played the previous two seasons, and he projects to continue starting at defensive end in 2024. He did see his production decrease this past year in the tackle department, dropping from 100 (63) in 2022 to 41 (27 solo) in 2023. The 24-year-old is now heading into a contract year and will look to prove his value accordingly.

Boston Scott PHI RBRams' Boston Scott: Fresh start in LA
3h agoScott agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Rams on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Scott spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia, but he will now get a fresh start in Los Angeles. While he was never a major part of the Eagles' offense during his tenure, he saw his role as a third-down back shrink during the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old will presumably be behind Kyren Williams and rookie Blake Corum on the Rams' depth chart, and Scott will compete with Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans for the No. 3 role.

Davis spent most of the 2023 season on Arizona's practice squad. The Cardinals drafted a pair of wideouts in last week's NFL Draft, so Davis will look for work elsewhere.

4h agoFollowing the 2024 NFL Draft, Stidham is joined in the Broncos' QB room by newcomer Zach Wilson, along with No. 12 overall pick Bo Nix, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
After the Broncos released Russell Wilson last month, it was inevitable that they would add QB depth to join Stidham, who started Denver's final two contests last season. While Nix is no doubt being groomed as the team's future starter, it remains to be seen if he'll step into that role immediately. Until then, Stidham and Wilson will presumably both have an opportunity to compete for the No. 1 role, but neither veteran signal-caller profiles as a high-value fantasy option in either re-draft or dynasty formats.

James Conner ARI RBCardinals' James Conner: Leader of improved backfield
4h agoRookie third-round pick Trey Benson is unlikely to take Conner's starting job but may eventually force a timeshare in the Cardinals' backfield, according to KC Joyner of The Athletic.
Conner has missed multiple games in each of his seven NFL seasons, though never more than six in any one year, so any competition for touches could sort itself out. His 2023 included career highs for rushing yards (1,040) and yards per carry (5.0), with the downside being his fewest targets (33) and catches (27, 2.1 per game) since he was a barely-used rookie with Pittsburgh in 2017. The lack of receiving volume was partially a product of Emari Demercado getting playing time in passing situations, and it's worth noting that the Cardinals have two other backs in Michael Carter, DeeJay Dallas with track records as passing-down specialists. That said, Conner still figures to be the starter and lead runner, with Benson being the main threat to poach carries and TDs even if other guys are in the mix on passing downs.

5h agoThe Packers drafted MarShawn Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft to join Jacobs and AJ Dillon in their remade backfield, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic report.
The decision to release Aaron Jones and sign Jacobs as a replacement likely had a lot to do with the latter being younger, larger and more capable of handling big workloads. It's nonetheless a bit difficult to project Jacobs' touch/snap counts for the upcoming season, as coach Matt LaFleur has almost always used a two-back approach when he's had his top two RBs healthy. On the other hand, there were many instances when LaFleur leaned heavily on Jones or Dillon, or Jamaal Williams before that, when one of Green Bay's top backs wasn't available, rather than giving a third-stringer a larger role. The extent of Jacobs' usage may depend on LaFleur's confidence in Dillon and/or Lloyd moreso than Jacobs' perceived ability to take on huge workloads. Dillon plodded through 2023 and has seen his YPC drop each of his seasons in the NFL, while Lloyd looks faster and more explosive but comes with glaring ball-security issues after fumbling eight times on 325 touches during his college career.

1m agoMatz escaped with a no-decision in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Tigers, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks over 3.1 innings in an 11-6 loss. He struck out only one.
The southpaw got the hook after 73 pitches (45 strikes) with the Cardinals in a 4-0 hole, but Matz avoided the loss when the two teams combined for eight runs in the fifth inning. It was his shortest start of the season so far, but he's failed to complete five innings in three of his last four outings, getting tagged for 17 earned runs in 17.1 frames over that stretch. Matz will carry a 6.18 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings into his next start, which could come at home this weekend against the White Sox.

3m agoDalbec entered Tuesday's game in the bottom of the fifth inning after Garrett Cooper was hit by a pitch on the wrist. Dalbec stole a base and was hit by a pitch in his lone plate appearance.
The early word on Cooper's injury is a contusion, and it's unclear how much time he'll need. The development puts Dalbec back on the fantasy radar; he had been the primary first baseman prior to Boston acquiring Cooper last week.

7m agoThe Angels optioned Daniel to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.
Daniel was recalled from Triple-A on Monday, but he will be sent back down a day later without appearing in a game for the Angels. The 26-year-old righty owns a 6.08 ERA and 1.81 WHIP at Salt Lake and will continue serving as organizational depth as part of the Bees' rotation.

8m agoHelsley struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 10th save of the season in the first game of a doubleheader against the Tigers.
All 10 pitches Helsley fired were strikes, and he hit triple digits on the radar gun with three of them. The right-hander has been lights out to begin the season, converting 10 of 11 save chances with a 1.69 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB through 16 innings.

Kyle Gibson STL SPCardinals' Kyle Gibson: Fans nine in no-decision
12m agoGibson came away with a no-decision in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Tigers, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings in a 2-1 win. He struck out nine.
A Riley Greene solo shot in the fourth inning was the only damage off Gibson, but he left the mound in line for the loss as he got out-dueled by Jack Flaherty. The Cardinals were able to rally in the ninth to take Gibson off the hook, however. He generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 98 pitches while setting a new season high in strikeouts, and the 36-year-old righty sports a 3.79 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB through 38 innings. Gibson lines up to make his next start at home early next week against the Mets.

20m agoThe Angels transferred Silseth to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
Silseth has been on the injured list since April 8 due to right elbow inflammation. He has not thrown at all since landing on the IL and does not have a clear timetable to return, though he won't be eligible to come off the injured list until June 7.

In Harris' absence, Markell Fultz, Cole Anthony and Anthony Black are all candidates to receive increased playing time. Harris' next chance to suit up is Game 6 on Friday.

Lillard will miss his second straight contest Tuesday after being downgraded from doubtful to out with a right Achilles strain. Malik Beasley will likely draw another start in his absence. If Milwaukee is able to win Game 5, Lillard's next chance to suit up will come in Game 6 on Thursday.

Schenn was a surprise scratch before warmups, and this explains why. Tyson Barrie will enter the lineup in a bottom-four role to cover for Schenn's absence. If the Predators lose Tuesday, Schenn will have to wait until next season to play again.
