1h agoJones (knee) said Wednesday that he's been running and cutting during his rehab from a torn right ACL, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Jones went on to say he's "doing everything," and the plan remains for him to be ready for training camp. The veteran QB tore his right ACL last November and also dealt with neck issues once again, though Jones said he's over that injury. The Giants didn't use a draft pick on a quarterback this offseason, only swapping out veteran backup Tyrod Taylor for Drew Lock in free agency. Jones should get every shot to remain the Giants' starter despite a dreadful 2023.

2h agoThe Cowboys declined Lance's 2025 fifth-year option, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
This was a no-brainer, as Lance has been a mega-bust to this point in his career after the 49ers traded up to select Lance at No. 3 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He didn't play a single snap for Dallas last season after the team traded for him prior to Week 1. Lance will compete with Cooper Rush for backup duties behind Dad Prescott.

Darius Slayton NYG WRGiants' Darius Slayton: Likely to remain starter
2h agoSlayton is expected to open the season as a starting wideout opposite rookie first-rounder Malik Nabers, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Slayton refused to report to voluntary offseason workouts, as he's entering the final year of a two-year deal and is seeking an extension. The Giants, however, haven't budged, and the team used the sixth overall pick in last week's NFL Draft to take Nabers after using a third-rounder on Jalin Hyatt in 2023. While Slayton is the favorite to open the summer as a starter, the team likely hopes Hyatt can push the veteran for snaps and targets. Nabers should easily pace this team in targets as a rookie.

2h agoHyatt is expected to be the Giants' top backup wide receiver in 2024 following the team's selection of Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall pick in last week's NFL Draft, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Hyatt injured his hamstring in the season finale against the Eagles but is presumably over the issue by now and is coming off a rookie season that saw him secure 23 of 40 targets for 373 scoreless yards. He did average a strong 16.2 yards per catch, but the number of catchable passes thrown his way were few and far between as a downfield threat. Darius Slayton is expected to open the season opposite Nabers, with Wan'Dale Robinson in the slot, though the Giants would likely prefer to see Hyatt push Slayton for snaps.

Long struggled to find a home in 2023. After four years with the Rams, the 2019 third-round selection spent time with the Packers, Panthers and Raiders, appearing in a total of 14 games. He'll now work to make the most of his fresh opportunity in the Big Apple.

5h agoVera-Tucker (Achilles) is "feeling good" and is "definitely on pace for a good start to the season," Caroline Hendershot of the Jets' official site reports.
Vera-Tucker suffered a torn Achilles on Oct. 8 against the Broncos, but it sounds like the veteran offensive lineman has a chance to be ready to compete once training camp comes around. Despite playing right tackle for the team last season, their selection of Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the 2024 Draft and trade for Morgan Moses, suggests Vera-Tucker may move inside and play guard in 2024.

Joey Wentz DET RPTigers' Joey Wentz: Earns first hold
34m agoWentz worked around a hit and a walk to pitch a scoreless inning of relief and earn a hold in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Cardinals. He struck out one.
Wentz has pitched well all season in relief, and he now has his first hold to show for it. The lefty has a miniscule 0.79 ERA across 11.1 innings and he's struck out 14. The move to the bullpen has done wonders for Wentz, as he struggled mightily as a starter last year, posting a 6.80 ERA and 1.68 WHIP across 105.2 innings. He figures to stick in a relief role moving forward.

1h agoMoreno was scratched from the Diamondbacks' lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.
Moreno underwent a dental procedure before Wednesday's game and was scratched as a precaution. Tucker Barnhart will fill in behind the plate and bat ninth, and Moreno should be able to return to the lineup Friday.

Knack threw five innings of one-run ball during his last start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, but he will head back to the minors nonetheless. His demotion will allow J.P. Feyereisen to come up from the minors while also opening a spot in the Dodgers' rotation -- potentially pointing toward Walker Buehler (elbow) making his season debut Monday against the Marlins.

1h agoVierling went 2-for-3 with a home run, an additional run scored and three total RBI in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Cardinals.
Vierling connected for a two-run shot in the third inning, his third home run of the season, then drove in another run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth. The 27-year-old has been seeing regular time at third base with Gio Urshela (hamstring) out, and Vierling has responded with a solid .282 average and .758 OPS, giving him decent short-term fantasy value.

Mike Clevinger CHW SPWhite Sox's Mike Clevinger: Could make next start in majors
1h agoWhite Sox manager Pedro Grifol hinted Wednesday that Clevinger could be added to the 26-man active roster next week to make his next start with the big club, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. "We're expecting him to join us here pretty soon. He felt good [Tuesday]," Grifol said of Clevinger. "The news from our trainers was he's excited about how he felt, he's excited about how he threw the ball. We'll assess it, but I would expect him here shortly."
Because he didn't go through a proper spring training after remaining unsigned all offseason until inking a one-year deal with the White Sox until April 2, Clevinger has spent the first month of the regular season getting ramped up. He made the second of two starts at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, covering four innings (71 pitches) and striking out four while allowing two earned runs on six hits and one walk. The White Sox have already announced their starting rotation through Sunday's game in St. Louis, but Clevinger should be a strong candidate to make his 2024 big-league debut early next week at Tampa Bay, if the organization's brain trust determines he doesn't need another tune-up start in the minors.

Feyereisen has put up a 3.38 ERA and 0.98 WHIP across 10.2 innings at Oklahoma City, and he'll now come up to give the Dodgers another fresh bullpen arm. Landon Knack was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

2h agoWright went to the locker room in the first quarter of Wednesday's Game 5 against the Celtics after taking an elbow to the face. However, he'll be available to return after receiving stitches, the team announced.
Wright was elbowed in the chin as Jaylen Brown went up for a shot and ended up going back to the locker room after the play. He'll have stitches put on the inside of his lower lip/chin then will return to the contest.Patty Mills and Duncan Robinson should see more minutes while he's absent.

Horford played 34 minutes in Game 4 with Kristaps Porzingis (calf) going down with an injury in the first half. With Porzingis sidelined Wednesday -- and likely longer -- Horford will step into the starting center role, where he's expected to remain until Porzingis returns.

Wright will enter the first unit in place of Jaime Jacquez (hip) for just his second start of the season. The guard has been a sizeable part of the rotation throughout the series, averaging 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists across 25.0 minutes per game and should see an even larger workload Wednesday.

Beverley is dealing with an oblique injury once again, but he played through the issue in Tuesday's Game 5 and tallied 13 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block in 36 minutes. Damian Lillard (Achilles) is doubtful for Thursday's matchup, so if Beverley is available, he'll likely have plenty of chances to contribute.

Middleton sprained his right ankle in Game 2 but continues to play through the pain and will likely do so again Thursday. Over the last three matchups, Middleton has carried the Bucks, averaging 32.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 40.3 minutes per game. With Damian Lillard (calf) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) both doubtful, Middleton should be in store for a hefty workload during Game 6.

If he's available again Thursday as the Pacers attempt to clinch the series, he'll likely be able to handle a sizable workload.

Rittich is getting his second straight start after saving 12 of 13 shots in a 1-0 loss to Edmonton in Game 4 on Sunday. Edmonton has a potent offense, which ranked fourth in the 2023-24 campaign with 3.56 goals per game, so the Oilers will probably fire considerably more shots in the upcoming tilt. Rittich had a 13-6-3 record, 2.15 GAA and .921 save percentage in 24 regular-season contests.

7h agoSkinner is expected to start at home against LA in Game 5 on Wednesday, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.
Skinner earned a 33-save shutout over the Kings in Game 4 and has stopped 60 of 61 shots (.984 save percentage) over his last two starts. That gives him a 3-1 record, 2.48 GAA and .919 save percentage in four playoff contests this year. The 25-year-old was streaky in the regular season, finishing with a 36-16-5 record, 2.62 GAA and .905 save percentage in 59 appearances, but Skinner seems to be on a roll with a chance to eliminate the Kings up for grabs.

9h agoPesce (lower body) is no longer using a walking boot and might be able to return during Carolina's upcoming second-round series against the Rangers, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports Wednesday.
Pesce had three goals, 13 points, 20 PIM, 25 hits and 113 blocks in 70 regular-season outings. The 29-year-old is likely to serve in a top-four capacity once he's healthy.
