2h agoThe Panthers signed Smith on Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Smith bounced back-and-forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster over the course of three-year NFL career, but he's now found a new home in Carolina. The 27-year-old defensive lineman has appeared in four games during his time in the league, recording 11 total tackles while playing 108 total snaps (86 defensive and 22 on special teams). He's expected to compete for a backup role on the Panthers' defense as the offseason advances.

Jared Goff DET QBLions' Jared Goff: Lands four-year, $212M extension
2h agoThe Lions signed Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The deal contains $170 million guaranteed, and Goff is now the highest-paid player in Lions franchise history. The 2016 No. 1 overall pick of the Rams, Goff was acquired from Los Angeles in the Matthew Stafford haul prior to the 2021 season and has resurrected his career under Detroit OC Ben Johnson. In three seasons with Detroit, Goff has completed 66.5 percent of his passes, up from 63.4 percent with Los Angeles, and has thrown for 12,258 yards with a splendid 78:27 TD:INT mark. He's lowered his turnover rate with Detroit and just helped lead the team to the NFC Championship Game last season. Goff is still just 29 years old and is locked in with the Lions for at least the next few seasons.

The 27-year-old running back out of Vanderbilt signed a reserve/future contract with the Patriots back in January, but he's now been cut loose. Vaughn has spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Buccaneers, recording 384 rushing yards on 103 attempts. This move comes as New England frees up space within the 90-man roster limit, and Vaughn will now seek an opportunity to compete elsewhere.

Nick Vannett LAC TETitans' Nick Vannett: Traveling to Tennessee

The veteran tight end has spent time with six different teams across his eight-year career, and he's now headed to Nashville after agreeing to terms with the Titans. Vannett most recently played with the Chargers, tallying 125 offensive snaps across eight games and recording one reception for three yards in 2023. Expect the 31-year-old to compete for a depth role in Tennessee's tight end room as the offseason progresses.

Ross Dwelley SF TEFalcons' Ross Dwelley: Finds new home in Atlanta
2h agoThe Falcons signed Dwelley (ankle) on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Dwelley finished last season on injured reserve after sustaining an ankle injury, but it now seems as if he's moved past the issue. After spending the first six seasons of his NFL career with the 49ers, the 29-year-old tight end has agreed to terms with the Falcons. Across his last three seasons, Dwelley has appeared in 41 games and made two starts, catching eight of his 12 targets for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Despite his underwhelming offensive production, the San Diego product has been a consistent contributor on special teams (619 special teams snaps over the last three years), and he's expected to compete for a similar role in Atlanta.

The Wagner product spent the first three seasons of his career with the Buccaneers and he will remain in the NFC South after inking a deal with the Panthers. Gill was a key special-teamer during his time in Tampa Bay, playing 768 special teams snaps (out of 952 total snaps) and recording 29 total tackles, including one tackle for loss and an additional 1.5 sacks across the last three years. He's expected to compete for another special teams role in Carolina, while also providing some extra depth to the team's pass-rushing unit.

Eovaldi did some more flat-ground throwing Monday and might be ready to try things from the bump soon. While he looks to be trending in the right direction, it does not appear Eovaldi will be ready to return from the injured list when first eligible on Saturday. He's coming back from a strained right groin.

5m agoDiamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Thomas received a PRP injection for his left hamstring, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Thomas was set to return to the majors last week following his three rehab appearances, but he suffered a setback and received multiple opinions on his MRI on his left hamstring. Lovullo noted that Thomas getting the PRP injection was not what the manager was hoping for, and a timeline for the 24-year-old outfielder's return to action is unclear.

Carter is out of the lineup for a fourth straight game Monday, with the last three absences due to a lower-back problem. The fact that the injury has necessitated an MRI points to a possible stint on the injured list, but more should be known once the results are in. Ezequiel Duran is in left field for the Rangers on Monday.

Kim was removed from Sunday's game against the Dodgers after being hit by a pitch on his left wrist. However, X-rays came back clean and he won't wind up missing any starts.

18m agoGelof (oblique) has rejoined the Athletics and could be activated during their current series in Houston, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Gelof played back-to-back full rehab games with Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday and Sunday, which was the last step he needed to take on his rehab. It looks like the A's will give him a rest day Monday before likely activating the young second baseman before Tuesday's contest. Gelof has been out since late April with a strained left oblique.

Perkins will head to the bench after he went 0-for-10 with four strikeouts while starting each of the final three games of the Brewers' weekend series with the Cardinals in center field. The 27-year-old is slashing just .111/.179/.222 through 10 games in May, and his ongoing struggles at the dish may start to cost him some playing time. Jackson Chourio will move back into a starting role in the outfield Monday at Perkins' expense.

The Cavaliers, already playing without Jarrett Allen (ribs), also lost Donovan Mitchell (calf) for Game 4, so LeVert will get his first crack in the starting lineup during the postseason. Over the last two games against the Celtics, LeVert has averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 51.7 percent from the field. Across 10 starts during the regular season, LeVert averaged 16.2 points, 7.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 34.3 minutes.

Allen will miss a seventh straight game due to a right rib contusion. Evan Mobley will continue to start at center, while Isaac Okoro slots in at power forward. Donovan Mitchell (calf) is also out, so Caris LeVert will join the first five for the first time during the postseason. Allen's next chance to suit up will come Wednesday in Boston.

Mitchell had been stellar over his last six postseason appearances, averaging 35.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.0 steals in 35.3 minutes. However, he suffered a strained left calf during Game 3 and will be sidelined for a critical matchup in Cleveland. With Mitchell out, Caris LeVert may slide into the starting lineup at shooting guard, while Isaac Okoro, Sam Merrill and Marcus Morris are also candidates for increased offensive roles.

1h agoHaliburton is questionable for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Knicks due to low back spasms, a sacral contusion and a right ankle sprain.
Despite all the injuries, Haliburton has been spectacular over the last three games, averaging 29.7 points, 7.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 33.7 minutes. Despite sporting a major limp following Sunday's Game 4 win, the All-Star is likely more probable than questionable heading into Game 5, but his official availability will likely be a game-time decision.

As expected, Hartenstein will be good to go for Game 5 after suffering a minor shoulder injury during Sunday's Game 4 loss. In New York's two wins during the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Hartenstein has averaged 13.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists. However, in the two losses, the starting center totaled only 10 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.

Anunoby will miss a third straight game due to a left hamstring strain. After winning the first two matchups of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Knicks have lost back-to-back games without Anunoby. Precious Achiuwa should continue to start at power forward, while Anunoby's next chance to suit up will come Friday in Game 6. Over the weekend, Anunoby was able to get a pool workout in, but he hasn't resumed running yet.

3m agoShesterkin will get the starting nod for Game 5 at home against the Hurricanes, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.
Shesterkin was riding a seven-game winning streak to begin the playoffs before Carolina finally beat him in Game 4 on Saturday. He allowed four goals on 31 shots in the loss, the first time this postseason he's allowed more than three. He's registered an impressive .925 save percentage while facing 160 shots this series.

On top of his illness, Chytil is reportedly also dealing with some soreness that's unrelated to the head injury that cost him nearly the entire 2023-24 campaign. He logged one shot and one hit in 12:02 of ice time during the Game 3 win against Carolina, his first game since Nov. 2. He'll be considered question for Game 6 on Thursday, if necessary.

2h agoSoucy was suspended for one game by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday for cross-checking Edmonton's Connor McDavid in Sunday's Game 3.
Soucy received a two-minute penalty for cross-checking McDavid at the 20-minute mark of the third period in the Canucks' 4-3 win over the Oilers on Sunday. Noah Juulsen will probably replace Soucy in the lineup for Game 4 against Edmonton on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Soucy has four assists, zero shots on goal, nine blocked shots and 27 hits in nine contests this postseason.

5h agoOettinger will guard the road goal in Game 4 versus Colorado on Monday, per Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News.
Oettinger has won his last two outings, including a 28-save performance in Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Avalanche in Game 3. He has a 6-4 record with a 2.12 GAA and a .919 save percentage through 10 starts this postseason. If the Stars emerge victorious in Monday's contest, the team can take a commanding 3-1 series lead back to Dallas for Game 5 on Wednesday.

5h agoHakanpaa (lower body) won't play Monday in Game 4 versus the Avalanche, according to Ryan Boulding of NHL.com.
Hakanpaa sat out the final 13 games of the regular season and will miss his 11th straight playoff contest. It's still unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. Hakanpaa registered two goals, 12 points, 56 shots on net, 123 blocked shots and 196 hits in 64 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.

5h agoGeorgiev will patrol the home crease during Monday's Game 4 versus Dallas, Jesse Montano of Guerilla Sports reports.
Georgiev was decent in Saturday's Game 3, turning aside 19 of 21 shots, but he ultimately came away with a second straight loss to the Stars due to insufficient goal support from his teammates. He'll try to help the Avalanche even the series up at two games apiece by picking up his sixth win of the playoffs during Monday's pivotal home contest versus Dallas.
