Ezekiel Elliott DAL RBCowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Gets $1.75 million guaranteed
34m agoElliott's one-year, $2 million contract with the Cowboys includes $1.75 million guaranteed, and he can earn up to $1 million more via incentives, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
All of the incentives require Dallas making the playoffs, with the other parts entailing Elliott playing more than half the team's snaps ($500k), scoring 10 touchdowns ($250k) or reaching 1,100 yards from scrimmage ($250k). He did all three of those things in 2021, and two of the three in his most recent season with the Cowboys (2022). A one-year sojourn to New England proved less productive, though Elliott handled some huge workloads late in the season after Rhamondre Stevenson suffered a high-ankle injury, averaging 14.8 carries and 5.2 catches over the Patriots' final six games. The Cowboys probably won't call on him that often, even with their other backfield options -- Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Royce Freeman, Malik Davis and Snoop Conner -- being less than stellar. The Cowboys didn't draft a running back in April, and none of their veterans besides Elliott has ever run for more than 521 yards in a season.

9h agoShakir has a new teammate in the receiving room after the Bills took Keon Coleman out of Florida State with the first pick of the second round Friday.
This may not be a terrible thing for Shakir's 2024 outlook, as it was doubtful the Bills were going to enter the season with such a thin wideout crew, and the attention of a big target like Coleman might allow Shakir to see better looks. The latter is coming off a 39-611-2 season in 17 regular-season games, but with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis off to new locales, Shakir has room to grow his production in his third NFL season. For now, he and Coleman project as starters, while Curtis Samuel is more of a hybrid No. 3.

15h agoThe Cardinals have opted not to pick up Collins' fifth-year option, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
This move is somewhat of a surprise, as Collins' started all 33 games he has played the previous two seasons, and he projects to continue starting at defensive end in 2024. He did see his production decrease this past year in the tackle department, dropping from 100 (63) in 2022 to 41 (27 solo) in 2023. The 24-year-old is now heading into a contract year and will look to prove his value accordingly.

Boston Scott PHI RBRams' Boston Scott: Fresh start in L.A.
15h agoScott agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Rams on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Scott spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia, but he will now get a fresh start in Los Angeles. While he was never a major part of the Eagles' offense during his tenure, he saw his role as a third-down back shrink during the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old will presumably be behind Kyren Williams and rookie Blake Corum on the Rams' depth chart, and Scott will compete with Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans for the No. 3 role.

Ximines was a third-round pick by the Giants back in 2019 but recorded just 6.5 sacks across five seasons with the team. He'll look to reboot his career in a new setting with New England.

Davis spent most of the 2023 season on Arizona's practice squad. The Cardinals drafted a pair of wideouts in last week's NFL Draft, so Davis will look for work elsewhere.

19m agoLambert is scheduled to start Thursday's game in Miami.
After making his first start of the season April 21 versus the Mariners, Lambert made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen, as he covered 2.2 innings in long relief April 25 after starter Dakota Hudson was pulled from the contest midway through the fourth inning. After having off days last Friday and this past Monday, the Rockies were able to temporarily get by with a four-man rotation, but Lambert will return to starting role this week as the team returns to a five-man rotation.

After getting on base four times and slugging two home runs between both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader, Perez will pick up a fifth consecutive start in the outfield Wednesday. With Austin Meadows on the bench for the second time in five games while he's hitting just .100 on the season, Perez could soon move into a full-time role at Meadows' expense. Since being called up from Triple-A Toledo on April 8, Perez has produced a 1.003 OPS over 48 plate appearances with Detroit.

The lefty-hitting Meadows finds himself on the bench against a right-handed pitcher for the second time in five games and could soon find himself back with Triple-A Toledo, given his rough start to the season. Even after reaching base three times in the Tigers' 11-6 win in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday, Meadows is slashing a deplorable .100/.222/.229 through 81 plate appearances on the season. Wenceel Perez will draw the start in center field Wednesday and could end up unseating Meadows for an everyday spot in the lineup.

Alek Manoah TOR SPBlue Jays' Alek Manoah: Dominant in latest rehab start
1h agoManoah (shoulder) struck out 12 batters over six innings in a rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A Buffalo. He gave up one earned run on two hits and two walks.
The 12 strikeouts were a new career high for Manoah at the professional level, and the dominant outing offers hope that the right-hander may have finally turned the corner after struggling mightily since the start of the 2023 season with his control, command and velocity. Though Manoah was placed on the 15-day injured list in late March with right shoulder inflammation, the injury doesn't seem to be a concern at this stage, as the Blue Jays have just been waiting him to perform at a level that warrants a return to the big-league rotation. He certainly looked big-league ready Tuesday, as he spotted 62 of his 92 pitches for strikes while sporting a sinker that maxed out at 95.9 miles per hour, according to Sportsnet.ca. With No. 5 starter Yariel Rodriguez (spine) joining Bowden Francis (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, the Blue Jays have an opening in the rotation for Sunday's game in Nationals, and Manoah looks like he could be called upon to fill the void. While Manoah would still profile as a risky streaming option if he gets the nod Sunday, his prior success in the majors before last season at the very least makes him an intriguing pickup if he's on the waiver wire.

1h agoCriswell (2-1) picked up the win in Tuesday's 4-0 victory over the Giants, scattering two hits and a walk over five scoreless innings while striking out four.
The right-hander faced only one batter over the minimum thanks to two double plays, exiting after 79 pitches (46 strikes). Criswell has tossed 10 straight shutout innings since moving into the rotation, and while his 1.65 ERA and 0.98 WHIP aren't sustainable, the 27-year-old may be emerging as a solid starting option. He lines up to make his next start on the road this weekend in Minnesota.

3m agoEmbiid ended with 19 points (7-19 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-6 FT), 16 rebounds, 10 assists, four blocks and one steal in 48 minutes during Tuesday's 112-106 overtime win over the Knicks in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
This was considered an off game for Embiid, yet he still managed to triple-double to keep the 76ers alive in the playoffs. Embiid wasn't quite himself and was moving around pretty slow, as he was battling both a migraine and some left knee soreness. The 76ers will be hopeful that Embiid will feel more like himself for Game 6 on Thursday.

5m agoMaxey amassed 46 points (17-30 FG, 7-12 3Pt, 5-8 FT), five rebounds and nine assists in 52 minutes during Tuesday's 112-106 overtime victory over the Knicks in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Joel Embiid clearly wasn't 100 percent, so Maxey stepped up in a big way for the 76ers. He used his quickness to get whatever look he wanted on the court, and he hit a three-pointer near halfcourt to send this game to overtime. This series will head back to Philadelphia for Game 6 on Thursday with the Knicks leading 3-2.

Jackson played limited minutes off the bench as the Bucks took care of business in front of a vocal home crowd. Strictly used as a depth piece, Jackson is not someone we should expect to see on the court for any significant amount of time moving forward.

9h agoPortis racked up 29 points (14-24 FG, 1-3 3Pt), 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 39 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 victory over the Pacers in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Portis atoned for his ejection in Game 4, leading the Bucks to an emphatic victory. He led all scorers with 29 points, having his way on the interior against a Pacers team that looked totally out-enthused. With Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) still on the sideline, Portis has been the primary beneficiary. Milwaukee will need for him to replicate this performance should they hope to force a Game 7.

9h agoBeverley accumulated 13 points (4-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-5 FT), four rebounds, 12 assists, one block and two steals in 36 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 win over Indiana in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Beverley turned back the clock in the victory, racking up his first double-double of the season. With Damian Lillard (Achilles) sidelined, Beverley has stepped into a much larger role than anticipated. If the Bucks are to force a Game 7, he will need to once again be at the height of his powers.

9h agoMcConnell logged six points (3-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt), three rebounds and three assists in 16 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 loss to the Bucks in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
McConnell failed to have a significant impact in the loss, continuing his underwhelming series. The Pacers were never really in this one, falling behind early and giving the Bucks some much-needed momentum. Game 6 is in Indiana on Thursday, providing the Pacers with another opportunity to advance to the second round.

Brock Nelson NYI CIslanders' Brock Nelson: Two points in Game 5 loss
5m agoNelson scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist Tuesday in a 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5.
The 32-year-old center did his best to keep his team alive in an elimination game, but the Isles simply didn't have the firepower to keep up with Carolina. Nelson picked up two goals and four points in five postseason contests after supplying 34 goals and 69 points in the regular season, his third straight campaign with 30-plus goals. He has one more season left on his current contract with a $6 million AAV but just $4 million in salary left on the deal.

Semyon Varlamov NYI GIslanders' Semyon Varlamov: Blown away by Carolina
10m agoVarlamov turned aside 32 of 37 shots Tuesday in a 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5 of the Islanders' first-round series, with Carolina's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
With their season on the line, the Isles came out flat and were down 2-0 before the four-minute mark in the first period. While Varlamov played well enough to allow his team to rally and tie things up by the second intermission, the third period belonged to Carolina. The veteran netminder posted a 2.70 GAA and .914 save percentage in his five playoff appearances, numbers very similar to his 2.60 GAA and .918 save percentage during the regular season. Barring a trade, he'll return to man the crease in Long Island in 2024-25 alongside Ilya Sorokin.

15m agoJohansson, who was previously listed as being out with a lower-body injury, sustained a quad tear March 30, Chris Krenn of the Lightning's official site reports Wednesday.
Johansson finished the campaign with a 12-7-5 record, 3.37 GAA and .890 save percentage across 26 appearances. He still has one season left on his two-year, $1.55 million contract, so the 28-year-old goaltender will likely remain on the Lightning roster in 2024-25 as the backup netminder behind Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Darren Raddysh TB DLightning's Darren Raddysh: Ends season on injured list
18m agoRaddysh was dealing with a hip pointer when the Bolts were eliminated from the postseason, Chris Krenn of the Lightning's official site reports Wednesday.
Raddysh was out of the lineup for Tampa Bay's final two contests due to his hip injury. Unless the 28-year-old Toronto native requires surgery, he should be ready to play when training camp opens in the fall. Whether he is at camp with the Lightning remains to be seen, as Raddysh will hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent July 1.

25m agoSwayman stopped 31 shots Tuesday in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs in Game 5 of the Bruins' first-round series.
Making his third straight start for Boston, Swayman played well but didn't get a lot of help from his teammates at either end of the ice. The 25-year-old netminder has a stellar 1.49 GAA and .952 save percentage in his four playoff starts so far, but it's not clear if coach Jim Montgomery will turn back to Linus Ullmark for Game 6 on Thursday.

Matthew Knies TOR LWMaple Leafs' Matthew Knies: Pots OT winner in Game 5
29m agoKnies scored the game-winning goal Tuesday in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Bruins in Game 5.
The 21-year-old winger pounced on a rebound early in the first OT period after John Tavares had driven the Boston net and tried to jam home the puck. It was the second goal of the playoffs for Knies, but those are his only two points in five games. If Auston Matthews (illness) isn't able to return for Thursday's Game 6, Knies may have to come up big again if the Leafs are going to avoid elimination again.
