10m agoSamuel has a new teammate in the receiving room after the Bills took Keon Coleman out of Florida State with the first pick of the second round Friday.
Samuel, signed as a free agent in March, was never going to be a No. 1 or even a No. 2 in Buffalo, but now we at least know who's been brought in ahead of him on the depth chart. It's a mild surprise the Bills chose only one receiver with their 10 draft picks, so for now the versatile Samuel likely sits No. 3 in the pecking order behind Khalil Shakir and Coleman. That said, this is a perfect offense for Samuel's skill set and he'll be a weapon of some sort once things get going, just not the primary receiving option.

In a corresponding move, Arizona signed rookie free agent long snapper Joe Shimko. Hembrough will now have to look for his next opportunity with a new team after spending his entire rookie season on the injured reserve list.

2h agoHebert was waived by the Eagles on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Hebert joined Philadelphia's practice squad late last season and turned that into a reserve/future contract with the team in January. However, the Lousiana Product's time with the team will come to an end for now, and he'll have the chance to pursue new opportunities.

It's a no-brainer move for the Falcons, even if Pitts, the No. 8 overall pick of the 2021 Draft, is coming off back-to-back disappointing seasons after going over 1,000 yards as a rookie. The hope in Atlanta is that the acquisition of Kirk Cousins coupled with the new coaching staff can help maximize Pitts' abilities. Pitts' figures to be a popular 2024 rebound candidate in both real life and fantasy football.

The Bengals didn't select a single running back across 10 picks in this year's draft, so even if the team brings in a handful of talented UDFAs, Brown looks like a notable winner for fantasy purposes. He flashed across 12 appearances as a rookie last season, and while Moss' experience with a large workload and on third downs may make him the favorite for the No. 1 role, Brown's short-area burst could make him an effective complementary option. If Brown can put together a solid offseason and push for increased touches, he could be an interesting late-round sleeper in 2024 drafts.

23m agoDiamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that he expects Nelson (elbow) to be back "soon enough," and that the right-hander may not need a rehab assignment, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.
Nelson threw a five-inning, 70-pitch sim game Monday and did not experience any pain. The 26-year-old landed on the 15-day IL on April 19 due to right elbow contusion, but it appears Nelson has a good chance of returning when he's first eligible for activation May 4.

Frias has been on the shelf for nearly two weeks with right shoulder inflammation but appears to be progressing. He had been optioned before that was rescinded and he was placed on the injured list, so the righty could be headed to Triple-A Reno rather than the majors once he's healthy.

37m agoCubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Suzuki (oblique) upped the intensity of his baseball activities Saturday and Sunday but is not close to beginning a rehab assignment, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Suzuki is getting a recovery day Monday before resuming baseball activities Tuesday and Wednesday. While he would appear to be progressing slowly but surely, he still has some hoops to jump through before he's ready to go out on a rehab assignment. Suzuki has missed the last two weeks of action with a right oblique strain.

37m agoDiamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Castro (shoulder) will begin his throwing program this week, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Castro landed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday -- retroactive to April 21 -- due to right shoulder inflammation. He posted a 5.19 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 8.2 innings prior to being placed on IL. The 29-year-old right-hander is eligible to be activated May 6, but he could stay on the IL past that date depending on how he progresses in his throwing program.

41m agoCubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that it's possible Steele (hamstring) could rejoin the rotation after his rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The left-hander's rehab start Wednesday will be his first outing since he suffered a left hamstring strain back on Opening Day. As long as Steele gets his pitch count up to a high enough threshold and recovers well from the start, it sounds like he could be back with the Cubs early next week.

10m agoRobinson-Earl (ankle) has been cleared to play in Monday's Game 4 against the Thunder, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.
Robinson-Earl was added to the injury report as a game-time call due to a left ankle sprain, but he'll be available to take the floor if called upon. He hasn't had much of a role so far in this series, logging only five minutes in Game 2.

Livingston missed Games 3 and 4 due to an illness but is cleared for Game 5. However, the second-round rookie isn't guaranteed playing time and has seen only four minutes in the opening-round series, which all game during a Game 2 blowout loss.

Lillard aggravated a right Achilles injury during Game 3 and missed Game 4 after being diagnosed with a strained tendon. The Bucks lost both games and now face elimination. Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) is also doubtful despite a positive update over the weekend, so Khris Middleton (ankle) and Brook Lopez may have to lead Milwaukee's offense again, while Malik Beasley and Bobby Portis remain in the starting lineup.

Antetokounmpo has yet to play this postseason due to a left calf strain he suffered against the Celtics on April 9. Coach Doc Rivers said ahead of Sunday's Game 4 loss that Antetokounmpo was cleared to run with no resistance and continues to do stationary shooting, but it seems the All-Star is still a few hurdles away from game action. Damian Lillard (Achilles) is also doubtful for Tuesday's potential elimination game, so Khris Middleton (ankle) and Brook Lopez may have to lead Milwaukee's offense again.

Beverley has scored in double figures only once through the first four matchups of the opening-round series, averaging 7.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals-plus-blocks in 33.5 minutes per game. The veteran played only 21 minutes during Sunday's Game 4 loss, so he may be limited even if he suits up Tuesday.

Dating back to the regular season, he's dropped six of his last eight games while posting an .891 save percentage. Vasilevskiy hasn't won two straight games since March 27 and 30.

Poulin racked up 16 goals and 31 points in 41 games with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. Over the last two years, he's totaled one assist in six NHL appearances. He'll head into next season's training camp looking to win a bottom-six spot in Pittsburgh.

Gibson spent most of the 2023-24 regular season with ECHL South Carolina, posting a 22-14-6 record with a 2.56 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 42 appearances. He also went 2-0-0 in two AHL outings, surrendering four goals on 47 shots. Gibson will probably serve as a depth option during Hershey's AHL playoff run.

He will get to play for the Bears in the AHL playoffs after contributing nine points and 100 PIM in 58 minor-league appearances during the 2023-24 regular season.
