David Long NYG DB
Giants' David Long: Finds new home
2h agoLong signed a contract with the Giants on Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
Long struggled to find a home in 2023. After four years with the Rams, the 2019 third-round selection spent time with the Packers, Panthers and Raiders, appearing in a total of 14 games. He'll now work to make the most of his fresh opportunity in the Big Apple.

Alijah Vera-Tucker NYJ OG
Jets' Alijah Vera-Tucker: Making progress
2h agoVera-Tucker (Achilles) is "feeling good" and is "definitely on pace for a good start to the season," Caroline Hendershot of the Jets' official site reports.
Vera-Tucker suffered a torn Achilles on Oct. 8 against the Broncos, but it sounds like the veteran offensive lineman has a chance to be ready to compete once training camp comes around. Despite playing right tackle for the team last season, their selection of Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the 2024 Draft and trade for Morgan Moses, suggests Vera-Tucker may move inside and play guard in 2024.

Jaylon Carlies IND DB
Colts' Jaylon Carlies: Moving to linebacker
2h agoCarlies is expected to transition to linebacker after playing safety in college, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
There were questions about Carlies coverage ability coming out of Missouri and entering the 2024 Draft, but his speed and playmaking skills still earned him a fifth-round selection by the Colts. Due to those skills, along with his ability to tackle, the transition to linebacker makes sense for the 22-year-old.
-
Daniel Scott IND SAF
Colts' Daniel Scott: Enters competition
3h agoScott (knee) will have an opportunity to earn the Colts' starting free safety job, according to defensive coordinator Gus Bradley,James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Scott was selected in the fifth round of the 2023 Draft, but he missed the entirety of his rookie campaign after he suffered a torn ACL during OTAs last June. It's still not clear when the California product will be 100 percent, or if he is already, but it appears the team believes he'll be healthy enough to compete for a starting job in 2024.

Kyler Murray ARI QB
Cardinals' Kyler Murray: New target in form of Harrison
3h agoMurray will be throwing to a new No. 1 wide receiver in 2024 and beyond after the Cardinals selected Marvin Harrison, fourth overall, in this year's draft.
Murray's 2023 debut was delayed due to a torn ACL in his right knee that he suffered Dec. 12, 2022. Upon his return Week 10, he started the final eight games of the campaign, completing 176 of 268 passes (65.7 percent) for 1,799 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing 44 times for 244 yards and three more TDs. By the end of the season, second-year TE Trey McBride had transformed into Murray's favorite target, and after the offseason departure of Marquise Brown (Chiefs), the quarterback was in search of a dynamic weapon in the passing game. The arrival of Harrison provides just that for Murray, who also will have RB James Conner and WR Michael Wilson at his disposal.
-
Rodney Thomas II IND SAF
Colts' Rodney Thomas: Facing competition
3h agoThomas isn't guaranteed to be the Colts' starting free safety in 2024, according to defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Thomas started 15 of the 17 games he appeared in last season, but that doesn't mean he'll maintain that role this year. Bradley stated that both Daniel Scott (knee) and Nick Cross will have the opportunity to take the job from Thomas.
-
Bo Naylor CLE C
Guardians' Bo Naylor: Getting Wednesday off
3m agoNaylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Naylor started at catcher in each of the past three games, so he's presumably just getting a rest day Wednesday. David Fry will get the nod behind the plate in Naylor's place.
-
Masataka Yoshida BOS DH
Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Placed on injured list
11m agoThe Red Sox placed Yoshida on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left thumb strain, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
MRI results revealed a strain in Yoshida's left thumb after he jammed his hand during Sunday's game against the Cubs, and there is no telling whether or not the 30-year-old outfielder will be able to return when eligible May 10. The newly-signed Dominic Smith will take Yoshida's place on the active roster.
-
Abner Uribe MIL RP
Brewers' Abner Uribe: Demoted to Triple-A
14m agoThe Brewers optioned Uribe to Triple-A Nashville after Thursday's win against the Rays, Adam McCalvy of MLB.comreports.
It's been an eventful two days for Uribe, who is now headed to the minors after being handed a six-game suspension for his role in Tuesday's benches-clearing brawl versus the Rays. The right-hander appealed the ban and allowed a run on a hit and two walks over one inning Wednesday, and he now has a 6.91 ERA and 14:12 K:BB across 14.1 frames this season. The 22-year-old will likely be tasked with honing his command down at Triple-A, and the demotion will give Milwaukee some bullpen security with Freddy Peralta also facing a suspension, as Uribe won't begin serving his ban until he's back on the major-league roster.
-
Slade Cecconi ARI SP
Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Moved up in rotation
19m agoCecconi will start Friday against the Padres instead of Saturday as previously scheduled, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
The 24-year-old right hander will take the mound a day earlier than expected with Zac Gallen still recovering from his hamstring injury. Cecconi has posted a 2.25 ERA, 0.50 WHIP and 11:1 K:BB over 12 innings in his two-game stint in the major-league rotation.
-
Zac Gallen ARI SP
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Start pushed back
22m agoDiamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Gallen (hamstring) won't start Friday as scheduled in an effort to provide him extra rest, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
The right-hander was originally set to start Wednesday, but Tuesday's starter Jordan Montgomery was pushed back a day since the start time was delayed two hours. Gallen apparently isn't having any issues with the hamstring injury that surfaced in his previous start, but Lovullo has still decided to give his ace some extra rest. The earliest Gallen will take the mound is Sunday versus the Padres, but it's possible he gets some additional time, as team off days Thursday and Monday give Arizona some flexibility.
-
Dominic Smith BOS 1B
Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Signs with Red Sox
23m agoSmith signed a one-year contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Smith slashed .263/.337/.375 across 89 plate appearances with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate while on a minor-league deal. He was released by Tampa Bay earlier on Wednesday and will now join the Red Sox on a major-league deal to help make up for the loss of Triston Casas (ribs). Smith will likely end up splitting time with Garrett Cooper (wrist) at first base, replacing Bobby Dalbec.
-
Delon Wright MIA SG
Heat's Delon Wright: Starting Game 5
2m agoWright will enter the starting lineup for Wednesday's Game 5 against Boston, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Wright will enter the first unit in place of Jaime Jacquez (hip) for just his second start of the season. The guard has been a sizeable part of the rotation throughout the series, averaging 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists across 25.0 minutes per game and should see an even larger workload Wednesday.
-
Patrick Beverley MIL PG
Bucks' Patrick Beverley: Probable for Game 6
2h agoBeverley (oblique) is probable for Thursday's Game 6 against Indiana.
Beverley is dealing with an oblique injury once again, but he played through the issue in Tuesday's Game 5 and tallied 13 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block in 36 minutes. Damian Lillard (Achilles) is doubtful for Thursday's matchup, so if Beverley is available, he'll likely have plenty of chances to contribute.
-
Khris Middleton MIL SF
Bucks' Khris Middleton: Considered probable
2h agoMiddleton (ankle) is probable for Thursday's Game 6 against the Pacers.
Middleton sprained his right ankle in Game 2 but continues to play through the pain and will likely do so again Thursday. Over the last three matchups, Middleton has carried the Bucks, averaging 32.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 40.3 minutes per game. With Damian Lillard (calf) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) both doubtful, Middleton should be in store for a hefty workload during Game 6.
-
Tyrese Haliburton IND PG
Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton: Questionable for Thursday's game
2h agoHaliburton (back) is questionable for Thursday's Game 6 against Milwaukee.
Haliburton has also been on the injury report ahead of the last two matchups but suited up and averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 33.0 minutes per game over those appearances. If he's available again Thursday as the Pacers attempt to clinch the series, he'll likely be able to handle a sizable workload.
-
Damian Lillard MIL PG
Bucks' Damian Lillard: Listed as doubtful again
2h agoLillard (Achilles) is doubtful for Thursday's Game 6 against the Pacers, Pat Boylan of Bally Sports Indiana reports.
Lillard is listed as doubtful for a third straight matchup after aggravating a right Achilles injury during Game 3. Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) is also doubtful, so Bobby Portis and Malik Beasley should remain in the starting lineup. The Bucks had a valiant effort in Game 5 at home to extend the series, led by Portis and Khris Middleton (ankle), but they still need to win back-to-back games to advance to the second round.
-
Giannis Antetokounmpo MIL PF
Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo: Doubtful for Game 6
2h agoAntetokounmpo (calf) is doubtful for Thursday's Game 6 against the Pacers, Pat Boylan of Bally Sports Indiana reports.
Although the Bucks managed to keep their season alive Tuesday, they'll likely have to play without Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard (Achilles) once again as the series shifts back to Indiana on Thursday. Assuming he's unavailable for Game 6, it's unclear whether Antetokounmpo will be in the mix to return for a potential Game 7.
-
Radek Faksa DAL C
Stars' Radek Faksa: Out again Wednesday
4m agoFaksa (undisclosed) won't suit up for Wednesday's Game 5 versus the Golden Knights, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Faksa will miss a third straight game despite being labeled a game-time call each time. The 30-year-old will likely take on a fourth-line role once he's cleared to return, though it's unclear when that may be.
-
Mason Marchment DAL LW
Stars' Mason Marchment: Not playing in Game 5
5m agoMarchment (undisclosed) won't play in Wednesday's Game 5 versus the Golden Knights, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Marchment was once again labeled a game-time decision, but he'll sit out a third straight contest. His next chance to play is Friday's Game 6 in Vegas.
-
Jake Oettinger DAL G
Stars' Jake Oettinger: Starting Game 5
7m agoOettinger will guard the home goal versus the Golden Knights in Wednesday's Game 5, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
Oettinger recovered from losing the first two games of the series in Dallas by winning the next two in Vegas. He'll look to keep that momentum going back on home ice in a pivotal Game 5. Oettinger has allowed 10 goals on 108 shots over the first four contests of the first round.
-
David Rittich LA G
Kings' David Rittich: Set to start Wednesday
5h agoRittich is slated to start on the road against Edmonton in Game 5 on Wednesday, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports.
Rittich is getting his second straight start after saving 12 of 13 shots in a 1-0 loss to Edmonton in Game 4 on Sunday. Edmonton has a potent offense, which ranked fourth in the 2023-24 campaign with 3.56 goals per game, so the Oilers will probably fire considerably more shots in the upcoming tilt. Rittich had a 13-6-3 record, 2.15 GAA and .921 save percentage in 24 regular-season contests.
-
Stuart Skinner EDM G
Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Set to face Kings
5h agoSkinner is expected to start at home against LA in Game 5 on Wednesday, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.
Skinner earned a 33-save shutout over the Kings in Game 4 and has stopped 60 of 61 shots (.984 save percentage) over his last two starts. That gives him a 3-1 record, 2.48 GAA and .919 save percentage in four playoff contests this year. The 25-year-old was streaky in the regular season, finishing with a 36-16-5 record, 2.62 GAA and .905 save percentage in 59 appearances, but Skinner seems to be on a roll with a chance to eliminate the Kings up for grabs.

Brett Pesce CAR D
Hurricanes' Brett Pesce: Might play in second round
6h agoPesce (lower body) is no longer using a walking boot and might be able to return during Carolina's upcoming second-round series against the Rangers, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports Wednesday.
Pesce had three goals, 13 points, 20 PIM, 25 hits and 113 blocks in 70 regular-season outings. The 29-year-old is likely to serve in a top-four capacity once he's healthy.
