5h agoShakir has a new teammate in the receiving room after the Bills took Keon Coleman out of Florida State with the first pick of the second round Friday.
This may not be a terrible thing for Shakir's 2024 outlook, as it was doubtful the Bills were going to enter the season with such a thin wideout crew, and the attention of a big target like Coleman might allow Shakir to see better looks. The latter is coming off a 39-611-2 season in 17 regular-season games, but with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis off to new locales, Shakir has room to grow his production in his third NFL season. For now, he and Coleman project as starters, while Curtis Samuel is more of a hybrid No. 3.

11h agoThe Cardinals have opted not to pick up Collins' fifth-year option, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
This move is somewhat of a surprise, as Collins' started all 33 games he has played the previous two seasons, and he projects to continue starting at defensive end in 2024. He did see his production decrease this past year in the tackle department, dropping from 100 (63) in 2022 to 41 (27 solo) in 2023. The 24-year-old is now heading into a contract year and will look to prove his value accordingly.

Boston Scott PHI RBRams' Boston Scott: Fresh start in L.A.
11h agoScott agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Rams on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Scott spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia, but he will now get a fresh start in Los Angeles. While he was never a major part of the Eagles' offense during his tenure, he saw his role as a third-down back shrink during the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old will presumably be behind Kyren Williams and rookie Blake Corum on the Rams' depth chart, and Scott will compete with Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans for the No. 3 role.

Davis spent most of the 2023 season on Arizona's practice squad. The Cardinals drafted a pair of wideouts in last week's NFL Draft, so Davis will look for work elsewhere.

Jarrett Stidham DEN QBBroncos' Jarrett Stidham: Denver adds QB depth
12h agoFollowing the 2024 NFL Draft, Stidham is joined in the Broncos' QB room by newcomer Zach Wilson, along with No. 12 overall pick Bo Nix, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
After the Broncos released Russell Wilson last month, it was inevitable that they would add QB depth to join Stidham, who started Denver's final two contests last season. While Nix is no doubt being groomed as the team's future starter, it remains to be seen if he'll step into that role immediately. Until then, Stidham and Wilson will presumably both have an opportunity to compete for the No. 1 role, but neither veteran signal-caller profiles as a high-value fantasy option in either re-draft or dynasty formats.

James Conner ARI RBCardinals' James Conner: Leader of improved backfield
13h agoRookie third-round pick Trey Benson is unlikely to take Conner's starting job but may eventually force a timeshare in the Cardinals' backfield, according to KC Joyner of The Athletic.
Conner has missed multiple games in each of his seven NFL seasons, though never more than six in any one year, so any competition for touches could sort itself out. His 2023 included career highs for rushing yards (1,040) and yards per carry (5.0), with the downside being his fewest targets (33) and catches (27, 2.1 per game) since he was a barely-used rookie with Pittsburgh in 2017. The lack of receiving volume was partially a product of Emari Demercado getting playing time in passing situations, and it's worth noting that the Cardinals have two other backs in Michael Carter, DeeJay Dallas with track records as passing-down specialists. That said, Conner still figures to be the starter and lead runner, with Benson being the main threat to poach carries and TDs even if other guys are in the mix on passing downs.

2h agoGore (2-3) was hit with the loss Tuesday versus Texas after giving up two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven batters across five innings.
Gore managed to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard for the first three innings, but an RBI single from Jonah Heim in the fourth followed by a fielder's choice in the fifth was all it took for Texas to take the lead over Washington and hand Gore his third consecutive loss. Despite his record, the 25-year-old lefty still owns a 3.19 ERA and 1.35 WHIP on the year and has struck out at least six batters in four of his six starts. He's projected to start on the mound again Sunday against Toronto.

2h agoSmith went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and scored twice during Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Nationals.
Smith's second-inning single and sixth-inning solo shot give the 26-year-old infielder his third multi-hit game in his last five contests. He is 7-for-14 two homers, three RBI and three runs scored during that stretch and now boats an impressive .917 OPS on the season while filling in as Josh Jung's (wrist) replacement.

Jon Gray TEX SPRangers' Jon Gray: Secures first win
2h agoGray (1-1) earned the win Tuesday against Washington after allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out three batters across eight innings.
Gray gave up an RBI single to Luis Garcia in the first inning to put the Rangers behind early, but that would end up being the only blemish on his record. His three strikeouts weren't consistent with the rates fantasy managers have come to expect out of the 32-year-old righty, but he still managed to completely shut down the Nationals' bats nonetheless. Ever since being lit up for five runs in 3.2 innings during his season debut in March, Gray has posted a 1.24 ERA alongside a 33:8 K:BB across 29 innings. He'll look to extend his hot streak during his next start -- tentatively scheduled to come in Kansas City on Sunday.

Jose Siri TB CFRays' Jose Siri: Scores twice in loss
2h agoSiri went 1-for-2 with an RBI, two runs scored and was hit by a pitch during Tuesday's loss to the Brewers.
Siri homered off Freddy Peralta in the third inning to get the Rays on the scoreboard and was hit by a pitch during his next at-bat in the fifth frame, resulting in Peralta's ejection. He came around to score in the fifth but was later ejected himself after getting into a fight with Brewers reliever Abner Uribe in the eighth inning. Despite being the most productive member of the Rays' lineup Tuesday, Siri is still slashing just .186/.276/.302 and has struck out in 41 of his 86 at-bats this season, giving him extremely little fantasy value even in the deepest of leagues.

2h agoAlexander (1-1) took the loss Tuesday against Milwaukee after allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters across four innings.
Alexander was unable to keep the Brewers off the basepaths Tuesday, allowing three runs to score in the first two innings. He managed to keep Milwaukee from scoring over the next two frames but had to be pulled after needing 85 pitches to complete four innings, tying his shortest outing of the season. The 29-year-old southpaw owns a 5.02 ERA and 1.40 WHIP this season, though he'll have a good chance to bounce back during his next scheduled start Monday against the White Sox.

2h agoTurang went 2-for-3 with three RBI, a run scored, a walk and stole a base during Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Rays.
Turang's RBI single in the second inning drove in Jackson Chourio to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead, and his seventh-inning double scored another two runs, pushing the score to 8-2. The 24-year-old second baseman continues to look like a reformed hitter, batting .312 through 93 at-bats this season -- a drastic improvement from his .218 average last year -- and his 14 stolen bases rank second in the majors.

5h agoJackson chipped in zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and one assist across seven minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 win over the Pacers in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Jackson played limited minutes off the bench as the Bucks took care of business in front of a vocal home crowd. Strictly used as a depth piece, Jackson is not someone we should expect to see on the court for any significant amount of time moving forward.

Bobby Portis MIL PFBucks' Bobby Portis: Dominates in Game 5 victory
5h agoPortis racked up 29 points (14-24 FG, 1-3 3Pt), 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 39 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 victory over the Pacers in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Portis atoned for his ejection in Game 4, leading the Bucks to an emphatic victory. He led all scorers with 29 points, having his way on the interior against a Pacers team that looked totally out-enthused. With Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) still on the sideline, Portis has been the primary beneficiary. Milwaukee will need for him to replicate this performance should they hope to force a Game 7.

5h agoBeverley accumulated 13 points (4-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-5 FT), four rebounds, 12 assists, one block and two steals in 36 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 win over Indiana in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Beverley turned back the clock in the victory, racking up his first double-double of the season. With Damian Lillard (Achilles) sidelined, Beverley has stepped into a much larger role than anticipated. If the Bucks are to force a Game 7, he will need to once again be at the height of his powers.

5h agoMcConnell logged six points (3-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt), three rebounds and three assists in 16 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 loss to the Bucks in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
McConnell failed to have a significant impact in the loss, continuing his underwhelming series. The Pacers were never really in this one, falling behind early and giving the Bucks some much-needed momentum. Game 6 is in Indiana on Thursday, providing the Pacers with another opportunity to advance to the second round.

5h agoWalker notched one assist over five minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 loss to Milwaukee in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Walker played a handful of minutes as the Pacers were blown out by the Bucks in Game 5 of their playoff series. Despite flashes throughout the season, Walker has basically been an afterthought when it comes to meaningful minutes. The two teams will line up again Thursday, as the Pacers try to wrap things up on their home court.

5h agoNesmith registered seven points (3-9 FG, 1-5 3Pt), two rebounds, one assist, three blocks and one steal across 27 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 loss to the Bucks in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Nesmith salvaged a rough shooting night with modest across-the-board production. Despite playing a significant role, he has been unable to rediscover his form from earlier in the season. While the loss was far from ideal, the Pacers will now head home for Game 6, where they will attempt to wrap up the series.

Quinn Hughes VAN DCanucks' Quinn Hughes: Bags apple in loss
4h agoHughes posted an assist and three shots on goal in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Predators in Game 5.
Hughes is up to five assists, eight shots on net and six blocked shots over five playoff contests. He set up Nikita Zadorov for the opening goal in the third period, though the Canucks couldn't hold that narrow lead. Hughes' play hasn't been as consistent in the playoffs, but he's still seeing a massive workload on the top pairing.

4h agoZadorov scored a goal, added two PIM and logged four hits in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Predators in Game 5.
For the second time in five playoff games, Zadorov had the Canucks' lone goal in a loss. The defenseman has three points, eight shots on net, 22 hits and a plus-1 rating so far in the postseason. He remains on the third pairing on paper, but he's exceeded 20 minutes of ice time in each of the last three games, as it appears he's earned extra responsibility from head coach Rick Tocchet.

Arturs Silovs VAN GCanucks' Arturs Silovs: Can't close out series
4h agoSilovs stopped 20 of 22 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Predators in Game 5.
Silovs gave up goals to Roman Josi and Alexandre Carrier in the third period of a low-scoring loss. With five goals allowed on 52 shots, Silovs has been solid in his two playoff appearances. The 23-year-old may still end up ceding the crease back to Casey DeSmith, who served as backup Tuesday after missing Sunday's Game 4 with a lower-body injury. The Canucks will get their second chance to advance in Friday's Game 6 in Nashville.

Tyson Barrie NSH DPredators' Tyson Barrie: Enters lineup, earns assist
4h agoBarrie posted a power-play assist in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Canucks in Game 5.
Barrie had been scratched for 13 straight games before entering the lineup Tuesday for Luke Schenn (illness). It worked out fine, as Barrie helped out on Roman Josi's game-tying goal in the third period. Barrie had just 15 points in 41 regular-season outings this season, and he'll likely be back in the press box once Schenn is healthy enough to return to the lineup.

Gustav Nyquist NSH CPredators' Gustav Nyquist: Earns helper in Game 5 win
4h agoNyquist produced an assist and two shots on goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Canucks in Game 5.
Nyquist set up Alexandre Carrier for the game-winning goal in the third period. The 34-year-old Nyquist has a goal, three assists, five shots on net and five hits over five playoff appearances. The winger should continue to fill a playmaking role on the Predators' top line as they return home for another elimination game Friday.

4h agoForsberg provided a pair of assists, two shots on goal and four hits in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Canucks in Game 5.
Forsberg helped out on third-period tallies by Roman Josi and Alexandre Carrier to keep the Predators' season alive for another game. Through five playoff outings, Forsberg has been solid with two goals, four assists, 14 shots on net and 17 hits. The 29-year-old winger will continue to play a leading role on offense, which will also see him earn significant power-play minutes.
