Miami added offensive tackle Patrick Paul in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft to help Tagovailoa stay upright, a key move following the departure of Robert Hunt to Carolina, but the team's only notable skill-position splashes were sixth-round wideout Malik Washington and fourth-round running back Jaylen Wright, both of whom are speedsters set to begin in depth roles. Adding an experienced veteran in the form of Beckham should finally provide Miami's offense with a reliable third starting wideout, something the team has lacked since coach Mike McDaniel's arrival in 2022. As Marcel Louis-Jacques notes, beyond the top tandem of Hill and Waddle no receiver has logged more than 32 catches or 417 yards in the McDaniel era. The arrival of Beckham, not to mention new tight end Jonnu Smith, promises to finally provide Tagovailoa with more reliable playmakers beyond his top two options.

16h agoBailey agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Tuesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
After four years in Cincinnati, Bailey will get a fresh start in Arizona. The 27-year-old accumulated 73 tackles (46 solo) across 60 games with the Bengals, primarily as a depth linebacker and special teams contributor. He will now look to impress in OTAs and carve out a role for himself with his new team.

18h agoBrown (ankle) was waived by the Titans on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Brown spent all last season on IR, but he was waived without an injury designation, so he should be considered healthy moving forward. The 25-year-old was an undrafted free agent out of Troy in 2023 and was working to earn a spot on the Titans roster when he suffered the injury in a preseason contest.

Ryan Swoboda ATL OLRyan Swoboda: Gets cut loose
18h agoSwoboda (undisclosed) was waived by the Falcons with an injury designation Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Swoboda will revert to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed. At that point, he'll be forced to miss the entirety of the 2024 campaign unless he can reach an injury settlement with Atlanta.

Kyle Peko DET NTLions' Kyle Peko: Finds new home
19h agoPeko (calf) signed a contract with the Lions on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Peko finished last season on injured reserve after competing in 13 games and recording 22 combined tackles. Now healthy again, the veteran lineman will get an opportunity in Detroit for his seventh NFL season. The Oregon State product will also have the chance to reunite with his defensive line coach from the Titans, Terrell Williams, who holds the same position now with the Lions.

19h agoThe Giants have claimed Rourke off waivers from the Patriots, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
After being waived by the Patriots on Monday, Rourke was quickly scooped up by the Giants. The 25-year-old is thus slated to add depth to a New York QB corps that also includes Daniel Jones, who is bouncing back from a torn ACL, as well as Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito.

Biggio will hit the bench for the fifth time in six games, with three of those absences coming while the Blue Jays have faced left-handed starting pitchers and two coming versus righties. The 29-year-old has maintained a strong-side platoon role at second base for much of the season, but with his OPS sitting at .621 through 29 games, Biggio looks like he could lose work to Davis Schneider moving forward.

His third-inning shot off Kutter Crawford got Atlanta on the board, and gave Kelenic his first long ball of the season. Despite the lack of power, the 24-year-old has generally been hitting well in his strong-side platoon role, slashing .280/.333/.373 in 81 plate appearances. Only one of those PAs has come against a southpaw, but with Adam Duvall scuffling so far (.220/.310/.380 in 58 PAs), Kelenic might get more opportunities against same-handed pitching if he heats up.

13m agoIglesias struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his ninth save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Red Sox.
The right-hander topped out at 97.1 mph as he bounced back from a blown save in his last appearance Friday. Iglesias hasn't been as dominant as usual to begin the season, managing a 10:3 K:BB through 14.1 innings, but his 1.88 ERA and 0.98 WHIP have been stellar. With his velocity finally getting back to normal as the weather warms up, more strikeouts could soon follow.

16m agoBichette will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's contest in Philadelphia.
Bichette had already been dropped down in the Blue Jays' batting order in recent days, and the No. 6 spot is the lowest he has hit since August 2022. The 26-year-old is just 3-for-40 over his last 11 games to drag his season batting line down to an ugly .189/.246/.268.

17m agoLopez came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.
The four free passes were a season high for Lopez, who tossed 54 of 91 pitches for strikes before exiting. The right-hander has failed to last six innings in either of his last two outings after beginning the season with four straight quality starts, but he still sports a 1.53 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB through 35.1 innings. He'll look to tighten things up in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Cubs.

Nick Gonzales PIT 2BPirates' Nick Gonzales: Cutting down on strikeout rate
19m agoGonzales has a 17.4 percent strikeout rate across 132 plate appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis.
Gonzales struck out at around a 28 percent clip for most of his stops in the minor leagues, so his current rate stands out positively. He's also posted a .254 ISO and 167 wRC+, albeit in his age-25 season. The Pirates have struggled to score runs consistently in the first full month of the new campaign, and Jared Triolo has only a .043 ISO and 67 wRC+ as the team's current regular second baseman. If Gonzales keeps hitting well, he could get a second shot at the majors in short order.

White embraced a bigger role on offense on a night when Jayson Tatum struggled (7-19 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), and the former responded by delivering his third consecutive game with 25 or more points. White has taken a step forward due to Kristaps Porzingis (calf) being sidelined, and it'd be fair to consider him Boston's third-best offensive weapon under the current lineup construction. White will aim to keep the streak alive in Game 2 on Thursday, as the Celtics have gone 20-3 this season when he's scored 20 or more points between the regular season and the playoffs.

Jayson Tatum had a rough shooting performance in the series opener, but Brown was there to pick him up, and the latter led the Celtics in scoring with an impressive, efficient display on the offensive end of the court. Brown has scored 20 or more points in four of his last five playoff appearances, and he'll aim to keep that streak alive in Game 2 on Thursday.

The Celtics cruised to a 25-point win in the series opener, but Tatum's shooting struggles can't be overlooked, as he had a rough outing and struggled to get things going offensively. The fact that he still came close to reaching the 20-point mark while also posting a double-double goes to show just how immensely talented he is, as he can post above-average numbers even when he has a down night by his standards. Tatum will aim to deliver a bounce-back performance in Game 2 on Thursday.

2h agoGarland had 14 points (6-15 FG, 2-8 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and one steal over 36 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Garland is in line for a rough matchup in this series, as he'll have to deal with two excellent defenders in Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, so his Game 1 display is not entirely surprising. He didn't have his best performances in the first-round series against the Magic either, and he's averaging just 14.8 points and 5.4 assists per game through eight playoff appearances. In fact, Garland has failed to surpass the 15-point mark in six of his eight playoff outings, a clear downgrade after averaging 18.0 points per contest during the regular season.

Mitchell carried the momentum he had from his epic Game 7 performance against the Magic on Sunday and surpassed the 30-point mark once again. However, the rest of his teammates didn't step up, and the Cavaliers suffered a devastating 25-point loss in the series opener. Mitchell should continue to post excellent numbers as the Cavaliers' go-to player on offense -- by a wide margin -- but there's a chance his mighty performances might not translate into wins as it happened against the Magic in the previous round.

Mobley continues to play as Cleveland's starting center due to Jarrett Allen (ribs) being sidelined, but his numbers have not suffered. Mobley recorded his third double-double across his last four appearances Tuesday, and he should continue to operate as a reliable two-way threat in Game 2 on Thursday, especially if Allen can't suit up again.

Bobrovsky struggled in Monday's Game 1 against the Bruins, surrendering four goals on only 28 shots en route to a 5-1 defeat. The 35-year-old netminder will attempt to bounce back and help the Panthers even up the series at one game apiece before heading to Beantown for Game 3 on Friday.

Hugh McGing STL CBlues' Hugh McGing: Signs two-year extension
26m agoMcGing signed a two-year, two-way contract extension with the Blues on Wednesday.
McGing spent most of the 2023-24 campaign with AHL Springfield, picking up eight goals and 39 points through 51 contests, but he also drew into five games with St. Louis, going scoreless over that span. He'll likely continue to fill a similar role for the organization over the next two seasons.

Rantanen set up Cale Makar's power-play marker midway through the second period before grabbing the primary helper on Nathan MacKinnon's game-tying goal 39 seconds into the third. The 27-year-old Rantanen has points in six straight games to start the postseason, recording two goals and nine assists. He posted 104 points (42 goals, 62 assists) in 80 regular-season contests.

Wood tallied the game-winner 11:03 into the extra frame Tuesday, sliding a backhander past Jake Oettinger on a breakaway. Wood had gone three games without a point after tallying goals in the first two games of Colorado's opening-round series versus the Jets. The 28-year-old winger had nine goals and 26 points in 74 regular-season games while working primarily in a bottom-six role.

Bennett will miss a fifth straight contest due to his upper-body injury. Anton Lundell, who's been hot with four helpers in his last five games, should continue to center the second line until Bennett is ready to return.

MacKinnon set up Valeri Nichushkin's power-play goal in the second period before scoring the tying goal 39 seconds into the third, snapping a loose puck past Jake Oettinger. MacKinnon has at least one point in all six postseason contests so far, and he's recorded two points in four straight games. He's up to three goals and 11 points so far in the playoffs.
