    Sam Hartman: Heading to Washington
    5m ago

Hartman is slated to sign with the Commanders as an undrafted free agent, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.

Following five years at Wake Forest where he set ACC records, Hartman transferred to Notre Dame for his super-senior season in an effort to prove himself in a pro-style offense. Hartman finished 2024 with a 63.5 percent completion rate for 2,689 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He was unable to replicate his prolific numbers from the previous two years and ultimately didn't hear his name called during the NFL Draft. Standing 6-foot-1 and 211 pounds, Hartman has an average arm but plenty of game experience. He joins a Washington quarterback room that includes No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels, veteran Marcus Mariota, Jeff Driskel and Jake Fromm.

Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: To receive fifth-year option
    11m ago

GM Trent Baalke said Saturday that the Jaguars will exercise the fifth-year option on Lawrence's rookie contract, John Shipley of SI.com reports.

Teams need to make such decisions for 2021 first-round picks by Thursday, and Jacksonville intends to exercise those options for both Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne. Lawrence will be working with a familiar backfield of Etienne and Tank Bigsby in 2024, but his receiving corps has been jostled a bit, with WR Calvin Ridley departing for the AFC South rival Titans and rookie second-rounder Brian Thomas and free-agent pickup Gabe Davis replacing him. While Lawrence has tossed for 4,000-plus yards in back-to-back campaigns, he has yet to reach 30 touchdowns through the air in any of his three seasons as a pro.

Kedon Slovis: Plans to sign with Indy
    11m ago

Slovis intends to sign with the Colts as an undrafted free agent, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.

Slovis started his college career at USC and was named Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2019 before leading the Trojans to a 5-1 record in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. Slovis struggled the following year and transferred to Pitt for a year before ending at BYU as a fifth-year senior last season. In Indy, Slovis will head into the offseason behind Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco and Sam Ehlinger.

Austin Reed: Intends to sign with Chicago
    17m ago

Reed is slated to sign with the Bears as an undrafted free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Reed (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) had a borderline late-round/UDFA draft grade by most analysts, but the sixth-year senior out of Western Kentucky ultimately didn't have his name called Saturday afternoon and will head to Chicago where he'll slide in on the depth chart behind No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien. Reed completed 63.2 percent of his college throws for 8,086 yards, 71 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.

Jets' Alijah Vera-Tucker: Option picked up
    26m ago

Jets GM Joe Douglas said Saturday that the team will exercise Vera-Tucker's (Achilles) 2025 fifth-year option, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

This was a no-brainer move for New York. Even though Vera-Tucker has 22 games over the last two seasons with significant triceps and Achilles injuries, he's been the the Jets' best lineman when on the field. Adding offensive line help has been an offseason priority for Douglas, signing LT Tyron Smith and OG John Simpson while trading for RT Morgan Moses. The Jets also selected OT Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the first round of this week's NFL Draft. Vera-Tucker was playing right tackle at the time of his season-ending torn Achilles. He figures to kick back inside to guard in 2024.

Broncos' Nick Gargiulo: Denver adds blocker in Round 7
    1h ago

The Broncos selected Gargiulo in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 256th overall.

Gargiulo began his collegiate career at Yale but transferred to South Carolina for his sixth and final season of collegiate football. He split time between center and left guard with South Carolina but played tackle at Yale. At just over 6-foot-5 Gargiulo might be a bit tall to play comfortably at center in the NFL, so guard might be a little easier of a fit. With 33 and 7/8-inch arms it's generally assumed that Gargiulo won't get a serious look at tackle, but he's played everywhere on the line by this point so Gargiulo could conceivably compete for reps at any of the five spots for Denver down the road.

Red Sox's Ceddanne Rafaela: Plates seven in monster game
    1m ago

Rafaela went 4-for-4 with a home run and seven RBI in Saturday's 17-0 victory over the Cubs.

There were big numbers throughout the Red Sox' lineup in this laugher, but Rafaela takes top billing. His home run came in the seventh inning off reliever Colten Brewer, and he also had a pair of doubles, one of which that cleared the bases in the fifth inning. As if that wasn't enough, Rafaela also stole his fourth base of the season and scored three runs. The 23-year-old had just 14 hits all season coming into Saturday's action, along with a 26.8 percent strikeout rate. While Saturday's performance was a peak at Rafaela's upside, he'll likely remain a volatile fantasy play.

Red Sox's Josh Winckowski: Goes three frames in start
    13m ago

Winckowski took a no-decision Saturday versus the Cubs, spinning three shutout inning while yielding only three hits. He struck out one.

Winckowski was making his second start following seven relief appearances, hence the reason he was pulled after just three innings and 52 pitches. He permitted a pair of baserunners in both the first and second frames but had a clean third inning to finish off his night. With Nick Pivetta (elbow) unlikely to be ready next week, Winckowski will probably be needed for at least one more start. However, he's simply still not stretched out enough to offer any real fantasy value.

  • Ben Brown CHC RP
Cubs' Ben Brown: Lasts just 3.2 innings in start
    19m ago

Brown (0-1) was saddled with the loss Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings against the Red Sox. He struck out four.

Tyler O'Neill clubbed a two-run homer in the first inning to getting the scoring started in what turned out to be a blowout victory for Boston. Brown was pitching on three days' rest after throwing an inning of relief on Tuesday, which surely contributed to him being pulled after 61 pitches. The rookie's usage has been erratic and unusual, but the results had been pretty good prior to this outing. If Brown gets another start -- which wouldn't appear to be guaranteed -- it will likely come either on the road against the Mets or at home versus the Brewers.

Rangers' Michael Lorenzen: Rocked by Reds
    28m ago

Lorenzen (2-1) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on six hits and a walk over six-plus innings in an 8-4 loss to Cincinnati. He struck out three.

The veteran right-hander came out firing, striking out the first two batters he faced, but things began to go sideways for Lorenzen in the second frame. Even so, he'd put together a quality start through six innings, but manager Bruce Bochy let him begin the seventh and Lorenzen hit Tyler Stephenson with a pitch before serving up a homer to Jonathan India. He left the mound after exactly 100 pitches (68 strikes), and Lorenzen will take a 4.24 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB through 17 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Kansas City.

Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Plates two, steals base
    29m ago

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with two RBI while netting his first stolen base of the season in Saturday's 7-4 victory over the Mets.

Goldschmidt one-hopped a two-run double off the wall as part of a four-run first inning for the Cardinals. He also added an infield single, a stolen base and another run scored. The former MVP did also strike out three times Saturday and has fanned at an elevated 30.1 percent. The production on the whole has ticked up over the past week, though, with Goldschmidt going 9-for-27 (.333) with one home run and four RBI.

Reds' Jonathan India: Launches first homer of 2024
    33m ago

India went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Rangers.

The 27-year-old slugged a two-run homer off Michael Lorenzen in the seventh inning, giving the Reds what proved to be crucial insurance runs after they'd jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. The long ball was India's first of 2024, and after managing only two multi-hit performances in his first 21 games, he's now racked up six knocks in the last two. Despite the big weekend he's putting together, he's still slashing just .222/.347/.309 on the season with two steals, eight RBI and 11 runs in 81 plate appearances.

McCollum produced 16 points (7-22 FG, 2-8 3Pt), five rebounds, seven assists, one block and two steals across 35 minutes during Saturday's 106-85 loss to the Thunder in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

McCollum went just 7-of-22 from the field, summing up another rough night for the Pelicans. After falling behind early, New Orleans was never able to get back into the game, shooting just 38.1 percent from the floor as a team. McCollum needs to be better, although, at this stage, he might not have it in him. Game 4 will be on Monday when the Pelicans will look to restore some pride.

Ryan failed to score in his three minutes, adding to what was a terrible night for the Pelicans. Playing in front of their home fans, the team offered little resistance. Now on the brink of elimination, New Orleans will look to turn things around Monday, in the hope of sending the series back to Oklahoma City.

Liddell saw rare playing time in the loss, as the Pelicans were blown out on their home court. The fact that he was in the rotation tells you everything you need to know about where the Pelicans are at right now. They will look to salvage some pride when the two teams face off again in Game 4, also in New Orleans.

Wallace continued to be a pest on the defensive end of the floor, racking up three steals in the blowout victory. Despite coming off the bench, Wallace has been an impactful player for the Thunder, often used in situations where defense is key. Game 4 will take place Monday when the Thunder will look to wrap things up against an undermanned Pelicans outfit.

Hakanpaa is likely not an option for Saturday's Game 3 or Monday's Game 4 versus Vegas, and if the Stars don't win one of those games, their season is over. Hakanpaa's continued absence will keep Nils Lundkvist in the lineup on the third pairing. Hakanpaa can be considered out indefinitely until he resumes practicing with the team.

Fleury had a goal, five points, 31 hits and 40 blocks in 24 regular-season outings. He hasn't been in the lineup since April 6 because of the injury. If Fleury had been available for Game 4, he might have served as the seventh defenseman or been a healthy scratch.

Sergachev (leg) was activated off long-term injured reserve, per the NHL media site, which sets him up to return for Game 4 against Florida on Saturday.

Sergachev was previously ruled out for at least the first round, so his speedy return is a huge surprise. With Tampa Bay facing a 3-0 deficit in the series, his teammates need all the help they can get to stave off elimination. If the defenseman hadn't come back now, then it might have been too late. He had two goals, 19 points, 36 hits and 70 blocks in 34 regular-season appearances. While Sergachev typically serves in a top-four capacity, his minutes might be limited in his first contest since Feb. 7.
