1m agoThe Seahawks selected James in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 192nd overall.
By selecting James the Seahawks reunite him with fellow corner and former Auburn teammate Nehemiah Pritchett, who Seattle selected in the fifth round. Whereas Pritchett is a typical Seattle-style boundary corner (taller, longer arms, fast), James is very much not a typical Seattle corner. That's because James is rail-thin by cornerback standards (6-feet, 175 pounds) and has short arms (31 inches), two details that make James a poor fit for the press coverage Seattle is known for. James was an effective starter for Auburn and has plenty of speed to work with (4.42-second 40-yard dash), and apparently that was enough for Seattle, especially so late in the draft.

5m agoThe Eagles selected McMahon in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 190th overall.
The Eagles lost franchise icon Jason Kelce to retirement during the offseason, leaving Cam Jurgens as the presumed starting center to begin the season. McMahon brings a wealth of overall experience after starting four campaigns at NC State, making it unsurprising that his craft and technique are considered his best traits. Despite playing only one year at center -- he was stationed at both right and left guard earlier in his collegiate career -- McMahon lands in a good spot and should make the team barring a disastrous training camp.

11m agoThe Lions selected Wingo in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 189th overall.
The Lions traded up to select Wingo, who some believed could be an earlier Day 2 selection. A bit undersized to be a true nose tackle at 6-foot, 286 pounds, the 21-year-old tallied 8.5 sacks throughout the course of this three seasons with LSU and played nearly every defensive snap over the final two years when healthy. Detroit spent the majority of the first two days of the draft beefing up its secondary, but Wingo could make an immediate difference along the interior of the defensive unit in his rookie season.

12m agoThe Texans selected Hill in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 188th overall.
Hill was not expected to be drafted after he bounced between safety and linebacker while struggling to earn playing time at Oregon, even as a former top recruit. The Texans could value Hill for his special teams potential, or perhaps head coach and former linebacker DeMeco Ryans suspects he can mold Hill's tools into something useful at linebacker. At the very least Hill has athleticism to work with, boasting a 4.46-second 40-yard dash at 6-feet, 216 pounds.

13m agoThe Falcons selected McClellan in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 186th overall.
Like many Alabama backs, McClellan had to wait his turn before becoming the lead runner. He got the chance in 2023 and averaged 4.9 yards per carry, illustrating a relative lack of explosiveness. McClellan's draft stock took another hit as he ended the season with a foot injury, which prevented him from working out at either the NFL Combine or Alabama's Pro Day. He also isn't likely to see the field much in the short term with Atlanta, as the team already boasts Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier as options in the backfield.

17m agoThe Falcons selected Washington in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 187th overall.
Atlanta double-dipped on skill position depth in the sixth round, taking Alabama running back Jase McClellan and Illinois' Washington with back-to-back picks. Washington was not a lock to be drafted and did not receive a combine invite. An older prospect at 23 years old, did not have a receiving touchdown until his fifth year in college. At his pro day, he ran a 4.46 in the 40 and had a strong 39.5-inch vertical jump. Washington does not have an obvious top-end trait that would portend a starting role in the NFL.

6m agoCronenworth isn't in the Padres' lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies.
Cronenworth will get a breather Friday with lefty Ranger Suarez on the mound for Philadelphia. Jurickson Profar will start in his place at first base, allowing Jose Azocar to start in left field while batting ninth.

Joshua Lowe TB RFRays' Josh Lowe: Won't be activated from IL
19m agoLowe (oblique) will not be activated off the 10-day injured list by the Rays this weekend due to tightness in his right hamstring, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Lowe spent the past week progressing through his rehab assignment in the minors. He was expected to be activated from the IL on Saturday, but the 26-year-old now has a new injury to deal with, this time to his right hamstring. Topkin notes that Lowe was concerned about the risk of playing through the injury and missing more time. Lowe will fly back to Florida to receive an MRI on Monday, which will help provide a better idea as to when the outfielder will be able to return to the majors.

Vierling has started in each of the Tigers' last six games, going 6-for-21 with three runs, one double and one triple over that span. Against Royals right-hander Brady Singer, the Tigers will start lefty-hitting Zach McKinstry at third base.

Meadows will get a rest day Saturday after starting in each of the Tigers' last seven games. He has struggled over that span, going 2-for-24 with three runs and a solo home run while striking out 12 times. The switch-hitting Wenceel Perez will start at center field Saturday and bat third against Royals right-hander Brady Singer.

1h agoPivetta (elbow) is pencilled in to make a rehab start Thursday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
He threw 50 pitches in a live batting practice session Saturday, so Pivetta may only need one rehab outing before rejoining the big-league rotation. If he does return after Thursday's rehab start, Pivetta would line up to start in the two-game series in Atlanta on either May 8 or May 9.

Ibanez has played two games in Triple-A as part of his rehab assignment, going 3-for-6 with two doubles and one RBI over that span. If all goes well in that stint, Ibanez could be available for the Tigers' next series against the Cardinals starting Monday.

Allen didn't play in Game 3 of the series Friday, and his status is unclear, although the questionable tag leaves the door open for a return in what might be the final game of the Suns' season. Allen is averaging just 3.5 points per game while shooting a meager 20 percent from the field in his two appearances during the current series.

Robinson didn't participate in Saturday's practice and was spotted wearing a walking boot after Game 3 on Thursday, so his chances of playing are slim to none, given the recent developments. If that's the case, then Precious Achiuwa would operate as the primary backup behind Isaiah Hartenstein.

Hardaway left Game 2 of the series on Tuesday after just six minutes of action and didn't feature in Game 3, so he's been extremely limited in the series. The doubtful tag isn't particularly encouraging ahead of Sunday's contest, but an official announcement should be made closer to Sunday's 3:30 p.m. ET tipoff. Even if he's available, he should come off the bench and his minutes could be closely monitored given his recent injury issues.

13m agoDoncic is questionable for Sunday's Game 4 against the Clippers due to right knee soreness.
Doncic has been impressive for the Mavericks during the first-round matchup against the Clippers, averaging 29.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game through the first three contests. Even though it's not surprising to see Doncic dealing with soreness given his workload throughout the season, the issue shouldn't keep him away from playing -- and handling his usage rage -- in Sunday's contest.

35m agoLeonard (knee) will be questionable for Sunday's Game 4 against the Mavericks, head coach Tyronn Lue told Joey Linn of SI.com.
Leonard logged 25 minutes in Friday's Game 3 loss, finishing with nine points (4-7 FG, 1-1 FT), nine rebounds and two assists, but he didn't look as fluid in his movements as he did in Game 2, where he was able to play 35 minutes while pouring 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals. His official status will be determined closer to Sunday's 3.30 p.m. ET tipoff, but if he's ruled out, then Terance Mann and Amir Coffey would be in line to pick up extra minutes.

The availability of Kornet means the Celtics will be at full strength for Game 3 of the series against the Heat. Kornet should see minutes off the bench, though he's likely to have a very limited role with both Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford available.

12m agoSergachev (leg) was activated off long-term injured reserve, per the NHL media site, which sets him up to return for Game 4 against Florida on Saturday.
Sergachev was previously ruled out for the entire first round, so this news is a huge surprise. However, Tampa Bay is down 3-0 in the series, so if the defenseman didn't come back now, then it might have been too late. He had two goals, 19 points, 36 hits and 70 blocks in 34 regular-season appearances. While Sergachev typically serves in a top-four capacity, his minutes might be limited in his first contest since February 7.

Vasilevskiy has gone 0-3 this postseason, surrendering nine goals on 94 shots (.904 save percentage). The Lightning need a victory Saturday to avoid a four-game sweep, and the team should get a boost from having Mikhail Sergachev (leg) back in the lineup.

Brenden Dillon WPG DJets' Brenden Dillon: Questionable for Sunday
28m agoDillon didn't receive any muscle or tendon damage as a result of the skate cut to his hand, which occurred during a scrum at the end of Friday's 6-2 loss to Colorado in Game 3. Although it's great news that he didn't suffer a more serious injury, the 33-year-old defenseman did require stitches and remains questionable for Game 4 versus the Avalanche on Sunday, Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press reports Saturday.
Dillon has three assists, four PIM, 12 hits and six blocks while averaging 21:04 of ice time across three playoff contests this year. He also accumulated eight goals, 20 points, 92 PIM, 241 hits and 111 blocks in 77 regular-season outings. If Dillon is forced to miss any action due to the injury, then Logan Stanley will likely draw into the lineup.

1h agoForbort (undisclosed) was activated from long-term injured reserve Saturday, per the NHL media site.
Forbort sat out the final 20 games of the regular season and Boston's first three playoff contests. He will be an option to play in Game 4 against Toronto on Saturday, but it wouldn't be surprising if he served as a healthy scratch. The 32-year-old blueliner earned four assists, 22 shots on goal, 65 blocked shots and 68 hits in 35 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.

2h agoBobrovsky will be between the visiting pipes in Tampa Bay on Saturday in Game 4, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.
Bobrovsky has been solid in net to help the Panthers take a 3-0 stranglehold on the best-of-seven series. He has allowed seven goals on 71 shots (.901 save percentage) against the Lightning in the opening round. Bobrovsky also had a stellar regular season, going 37-22-6 with a 2.42 GAA and a .921 save percentage. Florida can advance to the second round of the playoffs with a victory in Game 4.

2h agoThompson is expected to start at home in Game 3 against Dallas on Saturday, per Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Thompson has helped Vegas win the opening two games of the first-round series by stopping 46 of 50 shots (.920 save percentage). That's part of a larger hot streak in which he's posted a 2.12 GAA and a .925 save percentage over his past 13 appearances. Dallas ranked third offensively in the regular season with 3.59 goals per contest, so the Stars shouldn't be taken lightly, even after being defeated by Vegas twice.
