Sam Darnold MIN QBVikings' Sam Darnold: Vikings won't rush to name starting QB
1h agoThe Vikings could begin the season with Darnold as the team's starting quarterback despite taking J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, ESPN reports. "We're not going to rush his development," said general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. "We're just going to do what's best for the Vikings in the short and long term."
Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings as a short-term veteran starter or backup. It's hard to handicap when McCarthy may take over the starting job this soon after the draft, but it's notable the Vikings are trying to reduce expectations. Expect the quarterback battle for the Week 1 starting job to commence this summer. Still, odds are Darnold will only be the starter for a few weeks at most if McCarthy is healthy and making progress.

After four years at Arkansas, Knox transferred to South Carolina for his fifth-year senior season. He compiled a 37-312-2 receiving line for the Gamecocks. He switched positions from wide receiver to tight end in 2021. Knox joins a tight end room that includes T.J. Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt and Nick Muse in Minnesota.

"Tulu" stands at 5-foot-10 and 181 pounds and ran a 4.43 forty at the combine after leading Mississippi State in receiving with a 50-658-4 line as a senior. His main selling point for the Raiders could be his returner skills after he showed some electricity with the ball in his hands during college.

4h agoThe Raiders signed Bradley as an undrafted free agent Saturday.
Bradley has good size at 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds and spent the final two years of his college career at South Alabama following four years in Toledo's program. He threw for 5,996 yards at South Alabama, amassing 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. In Las Vegas, Bradley slides in at the bottom of the depth chart behind Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell and Anthony Brown.

Edwards was just a one-year starter at Georgia and overall functioned as part of a backfield committee. He concluded his four-year collegiate career with a 391-2,082-24 rushing line. Edwards is strong in pass-protection and joins a Pittsburgh backfield that is led by Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren and newcomer Cordarrelle Patterson.

5h agoWatson is slated to sign with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Watson spent five years at Old Dominion before transferring to Memphis for his super-senior season. He led the Tigers in rushing with 192-1,152-14 on the ground and added 53-480-3 as a receiver, earning All-AAC honors. Watson joins a crowded Denver backfield depth chart that includes Javonte Williams, Samaje Perine, Jaleel McLaughlin and fifth-round rookie Audric Estime.

3m agoDavis (thigh/groin) joined Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday to partake in baseball activities and is expected to serve as the designated hitter for the Aviators on Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Davis has been sidelined since sustaining his injury April 14, but he'd been ramping up physical activity in recent days. Manager Mark Kotsay said Saturday the plan is for Davis to rejoin the Athletics on Monday, at which point it will be determined whether he'll need to play in more rehab games or if he's ready to be activated from the injured list.

Rosario's eighth-inning solo shot didn't have much of an impact on the final outcome, but it did end Ranger Suarez's scoreless streak at 32.2 innings. The blast also snapped a 15-game homerless stretch for Rosario, though he often came on as a pinch hitter and thus had just 25 at-bats during that stretch. The 24-year-old had been seeing his playing time trend up of late, but that could be impacted by Manny Machado's return to playing third base Friday.

11m agoWoo (elbow) fired 3.1 scoreless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma against El Paso on Saturday, allowing two hits and recording six strikeouts.
Woo was impressive for the second time in as many rehab starts, locating 31 of his 49 pitches for strikes and keeping his ERA unblemished over 6.1 rehab innings overall. Per MLB.com, Woo threw all five of his pitches and topped out at 95 mph; according to general manager Justin Hollander, the plan is for the young right-hander to make at least one more rehab start with a goal of reaching 85 pitches, after which activation from the injured list would be considered.

Alec Bohm PHI 3BPhillies' Alec Bohm: Knocks in four runs Saturday
14m agoBohm went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two additional RBI in a 5-1 win against the Padres on Saturday.
Bohm got Philadelphia off to a quick start with a two-run homer off Dylan Cease in the first inning. The team didn't score again until the fifth frame, and Bohm added two more RBI in that inning on a two-out single. The third baseman has been arguably the league's hottest hitter of late -- he's on an 11-game hitting streak during which he's gone 22-for-43 (.512 average) with three homers, 16 RBI, 10 runs and a 4:5 BB:K.

17m agoRaley went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and a stolen base in a win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Raley drew his fourth start in five games Saturday night and delivered in the low-scoring victory, driving the Mariners' first run of the game in the fifth inning with a timely knock. Raley also swiped his first base of the season, and he was able to get his average back over the Mendoza line (.204) with what was his second multi-hit effort in the last five games.

Dylan Cease SD SPPadres' Dylan Cease: Looks mortal versus Phillies
18m agoCease (3-2) took the loss against Philadelphia on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters over six innings.
Prior to Saturday, Cease hadn't given up more than two earned runs in any of his five starts and had pitched to a 1.82 ERA. That number ballooned to 2.78 after the outing against Philadelphia, with Alec Bohm accounting for four RBI against the right-hander. Despite the hiccup, Cease has been the Padres' most effective starter this season, and he'll look to bounce back into form in his next appearance, which projects to come on the road in Arizona.

2h agoJames ended with 30 points (14-23 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, four assists, one block and three steals over 39 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 victory over the Nuggets in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
The Lakers are still alive in the series against the Nuggets, and James became just the fourth player in NBA history to record a 30-point playoff game at the age of 39 or older, joining Reggie Miller, Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on that exclusive list. James has surpassed the 25-point mark in each of the four games in this series, and the Lakers will need him to be at his best once again if they want to avoid elimination in Game 5 on Monday.

Anthony Davis LAL CLakers' Anthony Davis: Massive stat line in Game 4 win
2h agoDavis provided 25 points (11-17 FG, 3-4 FT), 23 rebounds, six assists and one block in 42 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 victory over the Nuggets in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Davis was efficient from the field and active on the glass en route to posting his first 20-point, 20-rebound performance since the win over the Bucks on March 28. Davis has been magnificent in the series despite the fact the Lakers are down 1-3, as he's scored at least 25 points and grabbed double-digit rebounds in each of the four contests. He needs to continue at a high level as a two-way threat if the Lakers want to have a shot at pulling the upset in Game 5 of the series.

D'Angelo Russell LAL PGLakers' D'Angelo Russell: Bounces back in Game 4 win
2h agoRussell ended Saturday's 119-108 win over the Nuggets in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with 21 points (8-15 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one steal in 41 minutes.
Russell faced tons of scrutiny following a woeful effort in a Game 3 loss during which he finished scoreless (0-7 FG, 0-6 3Pt), but he bounced back admirably and reached the 20-point mark for the second time in this series. Russell will need to carry his hot hand into Game 5 if the Lakers want to avoid elimination Monday.

2h agoPorter chipped in 27 points (10-20 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 3-5 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 40 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 loss to the Lakers in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Porter was Denver's second-best player in this game, as he trailed only Nikola Jokic in scoring and rebounding while notching his second consecutive double-double in the series. Despite playing a secondary role on offense behind Jokic and Jamal Murray, Porter has scored at least 20 points while grabbing nine or more rebounds in his last three contests, a run he'll aim to continue in Game 5 on Monday.

Nikola Jokic DEN CNuggets' Nikola Jokic: Massive triple-double not enough
2h agoJokic closed Saturday's 119-108 loss to the Lakers in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with 33 points (10-20 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 11-11 FT), 14 rebounds, 14 assists, one block and one steal over 41 minutes.
Jokic has two triple-doubles and two double-doubles in the current series against the Lakers, but unlike in the previous three contests, he was unable to carry Denver to victory following yet another slow start. Jokic's individual numbers have been amazing in the series, though, as he's averaging 29.0 points, 15.3 rebounds and 10.0 assists per game. He'll aim to lift the Nuggets to close the series out Monday in Game 5.

2h agoMurray racked up 22 points (9-23 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 4-5 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one block over 39 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 loss to the Lakers in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Murray's shooting woes continued in Game 4, as he finished with nine or fewer shots made while attempting 20-plus for the fourth consecutive contest. His numbers on the surface look good, as Murray is averaging 21.5 points per game while the Nuggets are 3-1 up in the series, but he's shooting a woeful 38 percent from the field. The Nuggets need him to be more efficient if they want to close the series out in Game 5 on Monday.

Miro Heiskanen DAL DStars' Miro Heiskanen: Goal, assist in win
1m agoHeiskanen scored a goal on four shots, added an assist, logged three hits and blocked three shots in a 3-2 overtime win over the Golden Knights in Saturday's Game 3.
Heiskanen helped out on Wyatt Johnston's first-period marker before scoring a goal of his own in the second. With four points, eight shots on net, nine hits and eight blocked shots over three playoff outings, Heiskanen is doing a little of everything. The 24-year-old will continue to see heavy usage in a top-pairing role, especially since head coach Pete DeBoer has displayed limited trust in No. 6 blueliner Nils Lundkvist, who saw just 2:21 of ice time Saturday.

Wyatt Johnston DAL CStars' Wyatt Johnston: Scores twice in overtime win
3m agoJohnston scored two goals on eight shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Golden Knights in Game 3.
Johnston opened the scoring in the first period with a backhand tally, then went top shelf at 16:23 of overtime to finish off the Stars' first win of the first-round series. The 20-year-old led the Stars' onslaught with eight shots, double the amount he put up in the first two games of the series. He was moved to the top line Saturday, and given the result, he may stay there moving forward. Johnston has three points, 12 shots, four hits and three blocked shots in the postseason.

Jake Oettinger DAL GStars' Jake Oettinger: Steady in Game 3 win
7m agoOettinger allowed two goals on 34 shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Golden Knights in Game 3.
The two goals came in a span of 3:10 during the second period. Other than that, Oettinger was solid in a game that saw the Stars control the pace of play without faltering late in periods as they had earlier in the series. He's won one of three playoff outings while allowing eight goals on 74 shots in that span. The 25-year-old will need to continue playing well to give the Stars a chance to even the series in Monday's Game 4.

3h agoLyubushkin notched an assist and nine hits in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Bruins in Game 4.
Lyubushkin has had a busy couple of days after making a round trip from Toronto to California to attend the birth of his daughter. The 30-year-old was able to avoid missing a game and now has two assists, 16 hits and three blocked shots over four playoff contests. Lyubushkin remains a steady part of the Maple Leafs' bottom four even as the team faces a 3-1 series deficit heading into Tuesday's Game 5.

Bertuzzi has a three-game point streak (one goal, two assists) after helping out on Mitch Marner's tally in the third period. Through four playoff outings, Bertuzzi has added 14 shots on net, 20 hits, six PIM and an even plus-minus rating while seeing top-six minutes.

Mitchell Marner TOR RWMaple Leafs' Mitchell Marner: Scores lone goal in loss
3h agoMarner scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Bruins in Game 4.
Marner snapped a five-game goal drought with his third-period tally, but the Maple Leafs couldn't make a rally out of it. He's picked up just two points with seven shots on net, six hits and a plus-1 rating over four playoff contests, which is not enough production from one of the team's core players. Marner remains in a top-six role, but Toronto will need more out of him to keep its season alive beyond Tuesday's Game 5.
