2h agoJefferson (undisclosed) was a participant during the beginning of Detroit's offseason program Tuesday.
Jefferson finished the 2023 campaing on Lions' practice squad injured list after popping up with an undisclosed injury in late January. The nature of the 24-year-old's issue was never revealed, though he appears to have moved past the injury over the past months. Jefferson has not played since his 2021 rookie season, spending each of the past two campaigns on Detroit's practice squad.

James Mitchell DET TELions' James Mitchell: Participates in offseason program
2h agoMitchell (hand) was seen catching passes last week during the beginning of Detroit's offseason program.
Mitchell played 15 games during the 2023 regular season while primarily slotting in as a blocking tight end and contributor on special teams, as he caught just two passes. The 24-year-old then missed the Lions' postseason run with a hand injury. Mitchell's return to action during the offseason program likely means he's moved past the injury or the time being, so he'll likely slot back in behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright on the depth chart at tight end to begin the 2024 season.

7h agoMcLeod (biceps) said Tuesday he plans to retire after the 2024 season, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
McLeod is presumably healthy after a biceps injury limited him to 10 appearances (five starts) in 2023. He signed a one-year deal back in March to return to Cleveland for a second season. The soon-to-be 34-year-old will likely serve as a depth option in the secondary while also handling a role on special teams.

Michael Wilson ARI WRCardinals' Michael Wilson: Outlook muddied after recent arrivals
1d agoWilson has more competition for targets from quarterback Kyler Murray after the team selected Marvin Harrison fourth overall in this year's draft and then signed seven-year pro Zay Jones last week, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Wilson spent much of the offseason No. 2, at best, in the pecking order in the Cardinals passing game behind tight end Trey McBride, but the recent additions leave Wilson's potential volume in the upcoming campaign up in the air. As a rookie third-round pick last year, Wilson put together a 38-565-3 line on 58 targets in 13 contests, but he produced just 13 catches (on 25 targets) for 164 yards and one touchdown in five outings with Murray under center. The arrival of the dynamic Harrison likely leaves Wilson fending for looks with Jones, who has three years with at least 500 receiving yards on his resume.

1d agoElliss (shoulder) should be fully recovered from shoulder surgery by training camp, Mike Klis of 9News reports.
Elliss underwent surgery to repair a torn shoulder labrum six months ago, but he still isn't quite 100 percent. However, the Broncos' 2024 third-round selection was able to take part in walkthroughs and individual portions of the team's recent rookie minicamp. The son of former NFL player Luther Elliss, Jonah projects to be a pass-rush specialist after recording 12 sacks in just 10 games at Utah last season.

1d agoCamp signed a contract with the Browns on Tuesday.
Camp bounced around multiple practice squads last season, including Carolina's, which he was waived from Friday. The Georgia Tech product will now work to make the most of his new opportunity in Cleveland after not being able to find his way onto an active NFL roster in 2023.

Brenton Doyle COL CFRockies' Brenton Doyle: Continues strong offensive stretch
12m agoDoyle went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk Wednesday in an 8-0 victory against San Diego.
Doyle's second-inning solo shot put Colorado on the board, and a he crossed the plate again in the third following a one-out walk. The center fielder has reached base safely in eight straight contests and is batting .333 (9-for-27) with two homers, five RBI, nine runs and four stolen bases over that stretch. He still has a problematic 27.9 percent strikeout rate on the campaign, but it's been a more-tolerable 21.4 percent during the eight-game span.

18m agoBeck went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and five total RBI in an 8-0 win against the Padres on Wednesday.
Beck came into Wednesday batting .191 with a 42.6 percent strikeout rate, but he was showing signs of breaking out with a four-game hitting streak while recording his first career RBI in his most recent contest. The 23-year-old may have announced his arrival with Wednesday's huge performance, during which he finished a triple short of a cycle. Beck doubled home two runs in the second inning, swatted a two-run homer in the sixth and added an RBI single in the eighth. The homer was his first as a major-leaguer, though he's flashed plenty of power in the minors, racking up 33 long balls across 177 contests since being drafted in 2022.

Michael King SD SPPadres' Michael King: Can't contain Colorado
34m agoKing (3-4) took the loss against the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven betters over 5.1 innings.
King fell behind when he yielded three runs in the second inning, and San Diego's offense never put up a fight against Austin Gomber and a trio of Rockies relievers. King had been on a roll coming into Wednesday, putting up 13 scoreless frames over his previous two starts, but he's been very inconsistent this season, giving up at least four runs in four of his 10 appearances. Altogether, he's registered a mediocre 4.31 ERA and 1.36 WHIP along with a 61:26 K:BB through 54.1 innings.

35m agoCrawford (oblique) was removed from his rehab game at Triple-A Tacoma after getting hit in the hand by a pitch.
Crawford was visibly in pain after taking a 90-mph fastball off his right hand/wrist and was immediately taken out of the game by a trainer. He has been working his way back from a right oblique strain he suffered in late April, and Wednesday was expected to be his final appearance in the minors before rejoining the Mariners for their weekend series in Baltimore. However, the 29-year-old shortstop's return may be postponed if the damage to his hand proves to be significant.

1h agoGomber (1-2) earned the win against San Diego on Wednesday, pitching six scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and walked two batters while striking out five.
The only two hits Gomber allowed were singles that the Padres couldn't cash in. The southpaw completed six innings for the fourth straight game and notched his third consecutive quality start. Wednesday's victory was his first of the campaign, but it was overdue based on how he's been pitching of late. Over his past three outings, Gomber has allowed just one earned run across 18.2 frames despite a mediocre 13:6 K:BB.

1h agoCrow-Armstrong went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-1 win over Atlanta. He also stole a base.
Crow-Armstrong continues to show off his speed, as he recorded his first triple and fourth stolen base across 21 games this season. The 22-year-old is in a crowded outfield with the likes of Ian Happ, Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki all healthy and commanding regular playing time. However, Crow-Armstrong has plenty of talent, and his future outlook is bright even if he mostly serves as a reserve in 2024.

2h agoWhite closed with 18 points (7-17 FG, 4-9 3Pt), five rebounds, six assists and two blocks in 36 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 victory over the Cavaliers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
White had a strong outing from deep in Wednesday's series-clinching win, connecting on a quartet of threes to go along with a half-dozen assists, a handful of rebounds and a pair of blocks in a near 20-point showcase. White stepped up for Boston in the semifinals, tallying at least 18 points in two of the five contests. White could be a key factor once again for the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals as an additional option offensively behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Horford dominated the boards in a series-clinching win Wednesday, leading all players in the contest in rebounds to go along with a handful of assists, a team-high trio of blocks and ending as one of two Celtics with 20 or more points in a double-double performance. Horford reached double figures in rebounds for the first time this postseason, also crossing the 20-point mark for the first time.

2h agoTatum supplied 25 points (9-16 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals across 43 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 win over Cleveland in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Tatum once again led Boston in the semifinals, nearing a triple-double to boost the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. Tatum led all Boston players in scoring, assists and steals while hauling in a double-digit rebound mark and coming up one dime shy of a triple-double. Tatum joined Larry Bird as the only Celtics players with at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals in a playoff game. If Tatum can continue to play at the level he played at in the semifinals, Boston will be a tough team to top in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Max Strus CLE SGCavaliers' Max Strus: All-around outing in Game 5 defeat
2h agoStrus ended Wednesday's 113-98 loss to the Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with 12 points (3-10 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 3-3 FT), seven rebounds and nine assists in 45 minutes.
Strus did a little bit of everything to help Cleveland come away victorious in Game 5, handing out a team-high-tying assist total to go along with a team-high-tying rebound mark in a near double-double outing. Strus reached double figures in scoring in three of the five games against Boston, adding at least seven rebounds and seven assists in the final two games of the series.

2h agoMorris finished with 25 points (10-13 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 0-1 FT), three rebounds and two steals over 33 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 loss to Boston in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Morris provided the shorthanded Cavaliers with a much-needed boost off the bench in Game 5, leading all bench players in scoring while connecting on a team-high handful of threes in a bench-leading minute total. Morris recorded his best outing of the postseason Wednesday, surpassing double figures in scoring for the second time of the playoffs.

Mobley once again stepped up in the starting lineup for the shorthanded Cavaliers, putting forth his best game of the series despite coming up short and seeing Cleveland's season come to an end. Mobley led all players in Wednesday's contest in scoring while hauling in a team-high-tying rebound total and notching a team-best pair of blocks. Mobley concluded the semifinals by averaging 21.4 points, 9.4 assists and 3.2 assists while shooting 62.7% from the field.

Jake Oettinger DAL GStars' Jake Oettinger: Leaky in Game 5 loss
2m agoOettinger stopped 22 of 27 shots in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Avalanche in Game 5.
Oettinger let a couple of one-goal leads slip away, and the Avalanche rallied ahead for good in the third period. This loss snapped his three-game winning streak, but the Stars are still ahead 3-2 in the series. Oettinger has won four of his five road games this postseason, allowing a total of seven goals in those contests, so he remains a strong option heading into Game 6 on Friday in Colorado.

6m agoParise notched an assist and two hits in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Stars in Game 5.
Parise snapped a six-game point drought with the helper on a Casey Mittelstadt tally in the third period. The 39-year-old Parise continues to play a limited role -- he hasn't exceeded 15 minutes of ice time in any of the last seven games, and he's done so just twice in 10 playoff outings. He has three points, 18 shots on net, 27 hits and an even plus-minus rating in a middle-six role.

Manson's offense has slowed in the second round -- he has two helpers over five games against the Stars after racking up two goals and three assists over five contests against the Jets in the first round. The 32-year-old defenseman continues to occupy a top-four role for the Avalanche, providing solid defense in addition to his surprising offense. Through 10 playoff games, he has 23 shots on net, 35 hits, 19 blocked shots, 10 PIM and a plus-8 rating.

12m agoGirard logged an assist in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Stars in Game 5.
Girard helped out on Casey Mittelstadt's go-ahead goal early in the third period. The helper was Girard's third in eight playoff contests, and he hasn't scored a goal this postseason. The defenseman has added a modest eight shots on net, 20 blocked shots, 10 hits and a plus-4 rating while skating in a second-pairing role since he recovered from a concussion that cost him four contests in mid-April.

14m agoDrouin notched a power-play assist, four hits and two PIM in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Stars in Game 5.
Drouin has a helper in each of his first two playoff contests. He was moved up to the top line Wednesday, though his helper was a primary assist on the first of Cale Makar's two goals in the game. Drouin should continue to see significant minutes as the Avalanche once again try to fend off elimination in Game 6 on Friday.

Rantanen helped out on a Cale Makar tally late in the second period, which tied the game at 2-2. After posting one goal over the Avalanche's previous three contests, head coach Jared Bednar moved Rantanen down to the second line at even strength, a switch that could negatively impact the winger's offense. He's at 13 points (four on the power play) with 27 shots on net, 19 hits, 12 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating over 10 playoff appearances.
