Tua Tagovailoa MIA QB
Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Finally gets No. 3 receiver
1h agoTagovailoa's top wide receiver options Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will be joined by Odell Beckham, who officially signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins on Wednesday,
Miami added offensive tackle Patrick Paul in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft to help Tagovailoa stay upright, a key move following the departure of Robert Hunt to Carolina, but the team's only notable skill-position splashes were sixth-round wideout Malik Washington and fourth-round running back Jaylen Wright, both of whom are speedsters set to begin in depth roles. Adding an experienced veteran in the form of Beckham should finally provide Miami's offense with a reliable third starting wideout, something the team has lacked since coach Mike McDaniel's arrival in 2022. As Marcel Louis-Jacques notes, beyond the top tandem of Hill and Waddle no receiver has logged more than 32 catches or 417 yards in the McDaniel era. The arrival of Beckham, not to mention new tight end Jonnu Smith, promises to finally provide Tagovailoa with more reliable playmakers beyond his top two options.

Markus Bailey CIN LB
Cardinals' Markus Bailey: Inks deal with Arizona
15h agoBailey agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Tuesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
After four years in Cincinnati, Bailey will get a fresh start in Arizona. The 27-year-old accumulated 73 tackles (46 solo) across 60 games with the Bengals, primarily as a depth linebacker and special teams contributor. He will now look to impress in OTAs and carve out a role for himself with his new team.
-
Shakel Brown TEN DT
Shakel Brown: Let go by Tennessee
18h agoBrown (ankle) was waived by the Titans on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Brown spent all last season on IR, but he was waived without an injury designation, so he should be considered healthy moving forward. The 25-year-old was an undrafted free agent out of Troy in 2023 and was working to earn a spot on the Titans roster when he suffered the injury in a preseason contest.
-
Ryan Swoboda ATL OL
Ryan Swoboda: Gets cut loose
18h agoSwoboda (undisclosed) was waived by the Falcons with an injury designation Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Swoboda will revert to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed. At that point, he'll be forced to miss the entirety of the 2024 campaign unless he can reach an injury settlement with Atlanta.

Kyle Peko DET NT
Lions' Kyle Peko: Finds new home
18h agoPeko (calf) signed a contract with the Lions on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Peko finished last season on injured reserve after competing in 13 games and recording 22 combined tackles. Now healthy again, the veteran lineman will get an opportunity in Detroit for his seventh NFL season. The Oregon State product will also have the chance to reunite with his defensive line coach from the Titans, Terrell Williams, who holds the same position now with the Lions.

Nathan Rourke NYG QB
Giants' Nathan Rourke: Claimed on waivers
19h agoThe Giants have claimed Rourke off waivers from the Patriots, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
After being waived by the Patriots on Monday, Rourke was quickly scooped up by the Giants. The 25-year-old is thus slated to add depth to a New York QB corps that also includes Daniel Jones, who is bouncing back from a torn ACL, as well as Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito.
-
Bryan Ramos CHW 3B
White Sox's Bryan Ramos: Hits in three straight
2m agoRamos went 1-for-3 with a walk Tuesday against the Rays.
Ramos has made three straight starts at third base since being promoted to the majors. While it's a limited sample, he's held his own by collecting one hit in all three games. Ramos has also struck out only once in the first 11 plate appearances of his career.
-
Kyle Tucker HOU RF
Astros' Kyle Tucker: Slugs homer No. 10
2m agoTucker went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 10-3 loss to the Yankees.
He took Luis Gil deep in the first inning, but things quickly went off the rails for the Astros after that. Tucker has gone yard in back-to-back games and has five long balls in his last nine contests, a surge that has him tied for second in the majors with 10 HR, one behind Shohei Ohtani. Tucker is slashing .279/.396/.566 through 35 games with five steals, 24 runs and 24 RBI.
-
Justin Verlander HOU SP
Astros' Justin Verlander: Blasted by Yankees
5m agoVerlander (1-1) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up seven runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over five innings as the Astros were routed 10-3 by the Yankees. He struck out two.
The 41-year-old right-hander looked his age, managing only six swinging strikes among his 97 pitches as he got tagged for his most earned runs in a start since July 2, 2017 against Cleveland. Verlander has served up five homers in four starts and 22.1 innings, which isn't unusual for him, but he's beginning to have trouble keeping traffic off the basepaths ahead of the long balls -- he's walked at least three batters in three straight starts. He'll take a 4.43 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the A's.
-
Robbie Grossman CHW RF
Rangers' Robbie Grossman: Traded to Rangers
7m agoThe Rangers acquired Grossman from the White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa.
Grossman won a World Series ring with the Rangers last season and they've now elected to bring him back into the fold. The 34-year-old will provide some outfield/designated hitter depth while Wyatt Langford (oblique) is out and should see some starts against left-handed pitching.
-
Sawyer Gipson-Long DET SP
Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Placed on 60-day IL
12m agoThe Tigers transferred Gipson-Long (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.
Gipson-Long's move to the 60-day IL opened up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Ryan Vilade, who was called up from Triple-A Toledo prior to Tuesday's 11-7 win over the Guardians. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in April, the 26-year-old right-hander will miss the rest of the 2024 season and is unlikely to be available until the middle of the 2025 campaign.
-
Isaac Paredes TB 3B
Rays' Isaac Paredes: Belts eighth homer
12m agoParedes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.
The 25-year-old continues to rake. Paredes has seven multi-hit performances in the last 12 games, a stretch in which he's batting .362 (17-for-47) with a 6:4 BB:K. The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .299/.384/.520 with eight homers and 19 RBI, and with top prospect Junior Caminero tearing it up himself at Triple-A Durham (.340/.392/.681 over his last 12 games), Paredes is doing his best to ensure he won't lose his spot in the starting lineup once the Rays call up the 20-year-old phenom.
-
Derrick White BOS SG
Celtics' Derrick White: Shines in Game 1 victory
1h agoWhite registered 25 points (9-16 FG, 7-12 3Pt), one rebound and five assists in 33 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 victory over Cleveland in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
White embraced a bigger role on offense on a night when Jayson Tatum struggled (7-19 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), and the former responded by delivering his third consecutive game with 25 or more points. White has taken a step forward due to Kristaps Porzingis (calf) being sidelined, and it'd be fair to consider him Boston's third-best offensive weapon under the current lineup construction. White will aim to keep the streak alive in Game 2 on Thursday, as the Celtics have gone 20-3 this season when he's scored 20 or more points between the regular season and the playoffs.
-
Jaylen Brown BOS SF
Celtics' Jaylen Brown: Leads Boston in scoring
1h agoBrown notched 32 points (12-18 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, two assists and one block across 34 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 win over the Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Jayson Tatum had a rough shooting performance in the series opener, but Brown was there to pick him up, and the latter led the Celtics in scoring with an impressive, efficient display on the offensive end of the court. Brown has scored 20 or more points in four of his last five playoff appearances, and he'll aim to keep that streak alive in Game 2 on Thursday.
-
Jayson Tatum BOS PF
Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Rough shooting effort Tuesday
1h agoTatum totaled 18 points (7-19 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks over 35 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 victory over the Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The Celtics cruised to a 25-point win in the series opener, but Tatum's shooting struggles can't be overlooked, as he had a rough outing and struggled to get things going offensively. The fact that he still came close to reaching the 20-point mark while also posting a double-double goes to show just how immensely talented he is, as he can post above-average numbers even when he has a down night by his standards. Tatum will aim to deliver a bounce-back performance in Game 2 on Thursday.
-
Darius Garland CLE PG
Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Poor shooting display Tuesday
1h agoGarland had 14 points (6-15 FG, 2-8 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and one steal over 36 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Garland is in line for a rough matchup in this series, as he'll have to deal with two excellent defenders in Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, so his Game 1 display is not entirely surprising. He didn't have his best performances in the first-round series against the Magic either, and he's averaging just 14.8 points and 5.4 assists per game through eight playoff appearances. In fact, Garland has failed to surpass the 15-point mark in six of his eight playoff outings, a clear downgrade after averaging 18.0 points per contest during the regular season.
-
Donovan Mitchell CLE SG
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Puts up 33 points in Game 1 loss
1h agoMitchell produced 33 points (12-25 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one steal across 37 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Mitchell carried the momentum he had from his epic Game 7 performance against the Magic on Sunday and surpassed the 30-point mark once again. However, the rest of his teammates didn't step up, and the Cavaliers suffered a devastating 25-point loss in the series opener. Mitchell should continue to post excellent numbers as the Cavaliers' go-to player on offense -- by a wide margin -- but there's a chance his mighty performances might not translate into wins as it happened against the Magic in the previous round.
-
Evan Mobley CLE PF
Cavaliers' Evan Mobley: Double-doubles in Game 1 loss
1h agoMobley accumulated 17 points (8-12 FG, 1-2 FT), 13 rebounds, three assists and one block in 32 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Mobley continues to play as Cleveland's starting center due to Jarrett Allen (ribs) being sidelined, but his numbers have not suffered. Mobley recorded his third double-double across his last four appearances Tuesday, and he should continue to operate as a reliable two-way threat in Game 2 on Thursday, especially if Allen can't suit up again.
-
Mikko Rantanen COL RW
Avalanche's Mikko Rantanen: Two more helpers in Game 1
14m agoRantanen logged two assists in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime victory over the Stars in Game 1.
Rantanen set up Cale Makar's power-play marker midway through the second period before grabbing the primary helper on Nathan MacKinnon's game-tying goal 39 seconds into the third. The 27-year-old Rantanen has points in six straight games to start the postseason, recording two goals and nine assists. He posted 104 points (42 goals, 62 assists) in 80 regular-season contests.
-
Miles Wood COL LW
Avalanche's Miles Wood: Nets overtime winner
19m agoWood scored a goal on his lone shot in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime victory over Dallas in Game 1.
Wood tallied the game-winner 11:03 into the extra frame Tuesday, sliding a backhander past Jake Oettinger on a breakaway. Wood had gone three games without a point after tallying goals in the first two games of Colorado's opening-round series versus the Jets. The 28-year-old winger had nine goals and 26 points in 74 regular-season games while working primarily in a bottom-six role.
-
Sam Bennett FLA C
Panthers' Sam Bennett: Still sidelined
23m agoBennett (upper body) isn't on the ice for morning skate and isn't expected to be available for Wednesday's Game 2 against Boston, George Richards of Florida Hockey Now reports.
Bennett will miss a fifth straight contest due to his upper-body injury. Anton Lundell, who's been hot with four helpers in his last five games, should continue to center the second line until Bennett is ready to return.
-
Nathan MacKinnon COL C
Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Another multi-point effort
36m agoMacKinnon scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 Game 1 overtime win over the Stars.
MacKinnon set up Valeri Nichushkin's power-play goal in the second period before scoring the tying goal 39 seconds into the third, snapping a loose puck past Jake Oettinger. MacKinnon has at least one point in all six postseason contests so far, and he's recorded two points in four straight games. He's up to three goals and 11 points so far in the playoffs.
-
Jamie Benn DAL LW
Stars' Jamie Benn: Two points in series opener
40m agoBenn notched a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 Game 1 overtime loss to the Avalanche.
Benn set up Wyatt Johnston's goal midway through the first period before extending Dallas' lead to 3-0 later in the frame, deflecting a Jason Robertson shot past Alexandar Georgiev on the power play. It's the first multi-point game for Benn so far in the postseason -- he's up to two goals and five points through eight playoff contests. The veteran center posted 21 goals and 60 points in 82 regular-season games.
-
Valeri Nichushkin COL RW
Avalanche's Valeri Nichushkin: Extends goal streak
44m agoNichushkin logged a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 Game 1 overtime win over the Stars.
Nichushkin got the Avs on the board 5:31 into the second period on the power play, sliding a loose puck past Jake Oettinger before adding a second point on the man advantage with an assist on Cale Makar's tally later in the frame. Nichushkin's been on fire to start the playoffs, scoring in six straight games while totaling eight goals and nine points overall. The 29-year-old winger tallied 28 goals and 53 points, both career highs, in 53 regular-season contests.
