Luke McCaffrey 2005 WR
Commanders' Luke McCaffrey: Washington adds in third round
42m agoThe Commanders selected McCaffrey in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 100th overall.
McCaffrey originally arrived to Nebraska as a coveted quarterback recruit, but he couldn't stick at the position and ended up making the switch to receiver after transferring to Rice. He's a bit thin at 6-foot-2, 198 pounds and has little catch radius to speak of, but his athleticism tested well at the combine (4.46-second 40-yard dash, 6.7-second three-cone drill), and his production at Rice was generally encouraging, especially since he just started playing wideout in 2022. It's possible that McCaffrey might need some more developmental time after switching from quarterback, but the bloodlines are obviously highly favorable, and McCaffrey clearly possesses starter-caliber athleticism. Washington simply now waits to see how much he can improve with experience.

Payton Wilson PIT LB
Steelers' Payton Wilson: Pittsburgh ends fall in third round
1h agoThe Steelers selected Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 98th overall.
Wilson would have gone much earlier than this if not for his extremely long injury history at North Carolina State. Wilson's right knee and both shoulders have required multiple surgeries at various points, and he heads into the NFL a 24-year-old rookie after spending so much time on the shelf. His strengths as a prospect are obvious -- at 6-foot-4, 233 pounds Wilson is freakishly fast (4.43-second 40-yard dash), and this lends well both to his pass-rushing and his coverage abilities. Wilson will never be the linebacker you want lining up in the middle -- he stands very upright and his arms are bizarrely short, making it easy for guards to grab him first -- but in the open field very few ballcarriers can lose Wilson's pursuit.

Jarrian Jones JAC CB
Jaguars' Jarrian Jones: Jacksonville adds in third round
1h agoThe Jaguars selected Jones in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 96th overall.
Jones (6-feet, 190 pounds) didn't have as much hype as Florida State teammate and second-round Buffalo selection Renardo Green, but Jones was a good starting corner in his own right for the Seminoles and actually had the better athletic testing of the two corners. Jones' arms are probably too short for press coverage but his 4.38-second 40-yard dash, 39.5-inch vertical and 129-inch broad jump indicate uncommon vertical range. Jones will compete with the likes of Montaric Brown and Darnell Savage for reps behind starting corners Tyson Campbell and Ronald Darby.
-
Jalyx Hunt 2005 LB
Eagles' Jalyx Hunt: Philly adds third-round pass rusher
1h agoThe Eagles selected Hunt in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 94th overall.
Hunt (6-foot-4, 252 pounds) was a non-entity as a recruit and had to take a strange path from Cornell (where he arrived as a defensive back) to Houston Christian, and he wasn't especially productive there given the low level of competition. The reason the Eagles gambled on Hunt anyway is that his rawness might be explained by his inexperience, and he otherwise has excellent athletic tools to work with (4.64-second 40-yard dash, 37.5-inch vertical, 128-inch broad jump). Hunt is now in a race against time to build up his skill set before his developmental window closes.
-
Jalen McMillan TB WR
Buccaneers' Jalen McMillan: Tampa adds third-round wideout
1h agoThe Buccaneers selected McMillan in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 92nd overall.
McMillan might not have as much hype as former Washington teammate Rome Odunze or even Ja'Lynn Polk, but McMillan was about as productive as Odunze and was more productive than Polk prior to McMillan missing roughly two months with a knee injury in 2023. In other words, if McMillan never got hurt, then Polk might not have been drafted ahead of the former. McMillan (6-foot-1, 197 pounds) demonstrated his skill set by producing alongside the likes of Odunze and Polk in college, and his solid combine performance proved the NFL viability of his athleticism (4.47-second 40, 37-inch vertical). Trey Palmer should not be in the WR3 role much longer for Tampa.
-
Kamren Kinchens LAR SAF
Rams' Kamren Kinchens: Joins secondary in Los Angeles
1h agoThe Rams selected Kinchens in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 99th overall.
Kinchens came into the pre-draft process with potential to go much higher, but a disastrous combine performance hurt his stock. At 5-11 and 203 pounds, Kinchens was clocked with a 4.65 40-yard dash and had a broad jump that ranks in the seventh percentile among safeties. The lack of athleticism didn't hurt his on-field performance, however, and that's what the Rams are betting on. He was a first-team All-American performer in 2022 and finished his career at Miami with 11 interceptions and 26 pass breakups. He has instincts and coverage ability on film, but how it translates to the NFL will be tested immediately by opposing offenses, given the lag in athleticism.

Alec Bohm PHI 3B
Phillies' Alec Bohm: Collects three hits
4m agoBohm went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's win over San Diego.
Bohm doubled and scored in the first inning and later added an RBI single in the fourth. He has multiple hits in five of his last six games, going 15-for-26 (.577) with seven doubles in the process. Bohm has boosted his slash line to a robust .347/.431/.568 with 14 extra-base hits and 22 RBI through 109 plate appearances.

Joe Musgrove SD SP
Padres' Joe Musgrove: Coughs up four homers
11m agoMusgrove (3-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Phillies.
Musgrove was cursed by the long ball Friday. He gave up a leadoff shot to Kyle Schwarber to begin the game before Philadelphia crushed three more homers during a four-run third inning. Musgrove is still searching for some consistency and his ERA has shot up to 6.94 through seven starts (35 innings). While he's struck out more than five batters just one time in 2024, he set a new season best by forcing 15 whiffs Friday, including seven with the slider. Musgrove will carry a lackluster 27:13 K:BB into his next outing, which is projected to be at home against the Reds.
-
Zac Gallen ARI SP
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Dealing with hamstring spasms
12m agoManager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Gallen was removed from his start against the Mariners due to spasms in his right hamstring, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
The Diamondbacks will continue to monitor Gallen's condition, but the expectation is that he will be fine and may not even have to miss his next start -- tentatively slated for Wednesday. The right-hander surrendered three earned runs across five-plus innings before exiting early in the sixth frame, giving him a 3.38 ERA through his first six starts.
-
Aaron Nola PHI SP
Phillies' Aaron Nola: Punches out 10 in win
12m agoNola (4-1) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk over eight innings Friday, striking out 10 and earning a win over the Padres.
Nola was terrific Friday, posting his first double-digit strikeout game since July 4, 2023. He threw 74 of 106 pitches for strikes and forced 14 whiffs in the victory. The veteran righty had yielded just one run through six frames before Graham Pauley's two-run shot in the seventh inning. Since coughing up six earned runs in his season debut, Nola has posted a stifling 1.29 ERA with a 33:10 K:BB over his last five starts (35 innings). He'll carry a 3.23 ERA into his next appearance, which is projected to be on the road against the Angels next week.
-
Brandon Marsh PHI LF
Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Homers, drives in three
14m agoMarsh went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Friday's win over the Padres.
Marsh knocked an RBI double in the first inning followed by a two-run blast in the third, both coming against Joe Musgrove. It was Marsh's sixth long ball of the year, though he had just one over his previous 11 games before Friday's big performance. He's now slashing .291/.329/.570 with nine extra-base hits and 16 RBI through 85 plate appearances this season. Friday's game was his second multi-hit showing over his last 14 contests.
-
Gavin Stone LAD SP
Dodgers' Gavin Stone: Goes seven innings in second win
28m agoStone (2-1) earned the win Friday against the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out two.
Stone was impressive Friday, holding Toronto to one run on Danny Jansen's fourth-inning homer while the Dodgers' offense provided plenty of support in the eventual 12-2 victory. The 25-year-old right-hander's held opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last three outings, lowering his ERA to 4.68 with a 1.44 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB across five starts (25 innings) this season. He's currently slated for a tough home matchup versus Atlanta in his next outing.
-
Jaden Hardy DAL SG
Mavericks' Jaden Hardy: Cracks rotation Friday
1h agoHardy finished with one point (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), one assist and one steal in three minutes during Friday's 101-90 win over the Clippers in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Hardy, along with A.J. Lawson and Dwight Powell, secured a handful of minutes down the stretch Friday. With the game well in hand, the Mavericks were able to give their fringe players a rare opportunity to see playoff basketball. This is not something we should expect to see very often moving forward.
-
Kyrie Irving DAL PG
Mavericks' Kyrie Irving: Gets hot late in victory
1h agoIrving finished with 21 points (8-17 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, six assists and two steals across 37 minutes during Friday's 101-90 win over the Clippers in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Despite a sluggish start to the game, Irving delivered when it mattered, helping the Mavericks to an emphatic victory. Both he and Luka Doncic are at the peak of their powers at the moment, much to the delight of the fans. A repeat performance in Game 4 will see Dallas on the cusp of an impressive first-round victory.
-
PJ Washington DAL PF
Mavericks' P.J. Washington: Ejected in Game 3 win
1h agoWashington chipped in 10 points (5-10 FG, 0-4 3Pt), five rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals over 34 minutes before getting ejected from Friday's 101-90 win over the Clippers in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Washington was ejected following a scuffle with Russell Westbrook, much to the delight of the home fans. While losing a player is never a good thing, his energy and willingness to not back down proved a hit with the Dallas faithful. Before his premature exit, Washington managed to put together another strong performance. He will look to maintain that energy heading into Game 4 Sunday.
-
Brandon Boston Jr. LAC SG
Clippers' Brandon Boston: Rare appearance Friday
1h agoBoston finished with three points (1-2 FG, 1-2 FT) and one rebound in three minutes during Friday's 101-90 loss to the Mavericks in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Boston played three minutes in garbage time, something the Clippers will be hoping doesn't repeat itself. Although the scoreline was relatively close, the Mavericks took control early in this one, now holding a 2-1 series lead over a Clippers team in need of a spark.
-
Paul George LAC SF
Clippers' Paul George: Woeful in Game 3 loss
1h agoGeorge racked up seven points (3-11 FG, 1-6 3Pt), five rebounds and five assists across 30 minutes during Friday's 101-90 loss to the Mavericks in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
George was non-existent in the loss, putting up his worst performance in quite some time. The Clippers managed to hang around but were never really in the contest. He is going to have to be much better when the two teams line up again Sunday, should the Clippers hope to return home with the series locked up.
-
Ivica Zubac LAC C
Clippers' Ivica Zubac: Flirts with double-double
1h agoZubac chipped in 19 points (8-11 FG, 3-3 FT), eight rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 32 minutes during Friday's 101-90 loss to the Mavericks in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Zubac turned in a strong effort Friday, flirting with a double-double. He added a pair of defensive stats for good measure, delivering his best performance of the postseason. Now trailing 1-2 in the series, the Clippers are going to need Zubac to be more consistent moving forward, something he has struggled with this season.
-
Spencer Stastney NSH D
Predators' Spencer Stastney: Exits Friday's contest
2h agoStastney (upper body) will not return to Friday's game against the Canucks.
Stastney logged just 6:36 before suffering an injury Friday. He's been held without a point in five straight games dating back to the regular season. An update on his status should be available before Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Stuart Skinner EDM G
Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Tending twine Friday
2h agoSkinner will get the starting nod for Game 3 in Los Angeles on Friday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.
Skinner has struggled so far this postseason, coughing up nine goals on 63 shots in two games. Including his final start of the regular season, he's 1-2-0 with an unsightly .829 save percentage over his last three outings. Skinner went 13-10-2 with an .894 save percentage and a 2.80 GAA in 27 road appearances during the regular season.
-
Samuel Girard COL D
Avalanche's Samuel Girard: Good to go Friday
3h agoGirard (concussion) is in the lineup for Game 3 against Winnipeg on Friday, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports.
Girard will return after missing the last four games. The 25-year-old was held without a point over his final 10 appearances in the regular season. He tallied three goals and 18 points in 59 games this season.
-
Trevor van Riemsdyk WAS D
Capitals' Trevor van Riemsdyk: Exits Friday's contest
4h agoVan Riemsdyk (upper body) will not return to Friday's game against the Rangers.
Van Riemsdyk took a huge hit against the boards that resulted in an interference penalty by Matt Rempe. Van Riemsdyk immediately left the ice and returned to the locker room. He logged 3:27 of ice time prior to getting injured. An update on his status should be available before Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Nick Jensen WAS D
Capitals' Nick Jensen: Unavailable Friday
6h agoJensen (upper body) will not suit up against the Rangers on Friday, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Jensen has now missed five straight games. The veteran blueliner tallied 14 points in 78 games during the regular season. He could return for Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Rasmus Sandin WAS D
Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Out Friday
6h agoSandin (upper body) will not play Friday against the Rangers, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Sandin will miss his eighth consecutive game Friday. The 24-year-old was considered a game-time call Friday, so he should have a good chance at returning Sunday for Game 4 versus New York.
