Jared Verse LAR DE
Rams' Jared Verse: Heads to Los Angeles
11m agoThe Rams selected Verse in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 19th overall.
Defense was a huge need for the Rams coming into the draft and with the way the board fell, they managed to get one of the top edges in the class without trading up. Verse took a unique route to becoming a first-rounder, beginning his career at Albany and playing his way onto Florida State's radar in 2022. He collected 18 sacks and 29 tackles for loss during his time with the Seminoles. Verse played in a 4-3 defense but is scheme versatile and his pass-rushing ability can work in Los Angeles. He's not the Aaron Donald replacement, but taking Verse is a step toward backfilling his pass-rush impact.

Amarius Mims CIN OT
Bengals' Amarius Mims: Headed to Cincinnati
18m agoThe Bengals selected Mims in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 18th overall.
Mims (6-foot-8, 340 pounds) is almost entirely raw material after starting just eight games in his Georgia career, but it's the kind of raw materials that can yield uniquely high upside. Although he's enormous like few linemen in NFL history, Mims moves like someone smaller than himself, boasting an 111-inch broad jump that grades close to elite by offensive tackle standards. While it's true that Mims might need some development time the Bengals are prepared to grant him that for 2024 at least, as one-year free agent pickup Trent Brown should probably be considered the favorite to start at right tackle for the Bengals in Week 1.

Dallas Turner MIN LB
Vikings' Dallas Turner: Trade-up target for Minnesota
26m agoThe Vikings selected Turner in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 17th overall.
Minnesota traded up with the Jaguars to get one of the top edge rushers in the class in Turner. An All-American at Alabama, Turner racked up an SEC-leading 11.0 sacks as a true junior in 2023, but he's far from a late bloomer. Turner burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2021 and racked up 8.5 sacks alongside Will Anderson to create a fierce pass-rushing tandem. Athletically, Turner is rather light for an NFL edge at 246 pounds but the athletic tools (4.46 40, 40.5-inch vertical, 34.38-inch arms) are loud. With Danielle Hunter now in Houston, Turner will be relied upon right away to create havoc in the Vikings' front seven.

Byron Murphy II 2005 DL
Seahawks' Byron Murphy: Nabbed 16th overall by Seattle
34m agoThe Seahawks selected Murphy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 16th overall.
The Seahawks had more pressing needs on the offensive line and passed up at least two premier prospects there (Troy Fautanu and Graham Barton) for the chance to take Murphy out of Texas, demonstrating a firm commitment to the Best Player Available approach. The Seahawks have trended toward more proper 3-4 looks in recent times after running something more like a lopsided 4-3 in the Legion of Boom days, so with Leonard Williams and Dre'Mont Jones an already costly duo at the end spots it would seem like Murphy would have to earn the nose tackle role or play off the bench in 2024. At 6-feet, 297 pounds Murphy is built like a gap-splitting tackle rather than the two-gap tasks that usually come with a nose tackle role. Despite the lack of clarity around his role, Murphy should make an impact for the Seahawks when he is on the field, wherever that might be. He was the best lineman on a strong Texas defense, and with a 4.87-second 40-yard dash Murphy should be able to make plays behind the line of scrimmage in the NFL.

Laiatu Latu IND DE
Colts' Laiatu Latu: Snagged by Indianapolis
40m agoThe Colts selected Latu in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 15th overall.
Latu becomes the first edge rusher off the board in this class and adds more firepower to a pass-rush that generated the fifth-most sacks in the NFL in 2023. He took an interesting path to get to this point and will play his rookie season at age 23. Latu began his career at Washington in 2019 and actually medically retired in the 2021 season. He returned to football the following year and starred at UCLA, earning All PAC-12 honors in the next two seasons and registering double-digit sacks in both years. Able to play standing up or with his hand in the ground, Latu will be a force off the edge in Indianapolis.

Taliese Fuaga NO OT
Saints' Taliese Fuaga: Goes to New Orleans 14th overall
44m agoThe Saints selected Fuaga in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 14th overall.
The Saints have a desperate need at left tackle and Fuaga doesn't conventionally project as an option there, but be it at guard or right tackle Fuaga should provide immediate and considerable improvement to the Saints offensive line. At 6-foot-6, 324 pounds the former Oregon State star is built like a tank but accesses the second level as quickly as a tight end would. Fuaga clobbers what he gets his hands on and can run down those who attempt to evade him, but with just 33 and 1/8-inch arms he might be a tad better at guard than tackle.

Mike Clevinger CHW SP
White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Throws 60 pitches
17m agoClevinger allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three across 3.1 innings Thursday with Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Clevinger is ramping up his workload after signing with the White Sox a few days after the season began. He threw 60 pitches in his appearance Thursday and will increase his workload to 75 pitches in his next outing, which will also come with Charlotte. Assuming all goes well, Clevinger's third appearance of the campaign will come in the majors -- setting him up to debut around May 5.
-
Ryder Ryan PIT RP
Pirates' Ryder Ryan: Shuttled back to Indy
25m agoRyan was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Ryan has had success in the majors this season, maintaining a 3.00 ERA with a 13:5 K:BB across 12 innings. He threw 1.2 scoreless frames Thursday against the Brewers, so this move is likely just a roster shuffle to get a fresh arm in the Pirates' bullpen in the short term. No corresponding move was announced.
-
Rob Refsnyder BOS RF
Red Sox's Rob Refsnyder: Continues to hit
1h agoRefsnyder went 2-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Guardians.
Refsnyder is raking during a five-game hit streak, going 9-for-20 with extra-base hits in all five contests. The plan was for him to play against left-handers, but injuries to key players have led to four of his five starts against right-handers, against whom he's 7-for-16 with five extra-base hits.
-
Jackson Merrill SD CF
Padres' Jackson Merrill: Expected back Friday
1h agoMerrill (groin) is expected to return to the lineup Friday, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Merrill was scratched Thursday but the issue was deemed precautionary. He spoke to reporters following the Padres' loss and said he feels fine and is adjusting to the rigors of the MLB schedule. While Merrill is expected to return Friday, it will be worth confirming he is in the lineup as San Diego opens a series against the Phillies.
-
Rafael Devers BOS 3B
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Heating up
1h agoDevers went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Cleveland.
Devers produced a second consecutive three-hit effort after missing five games with a knee injury. He's 6-for-9 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored in his two games back. The downtime appears to have given the balky shoulder he was dealing with during Boston's homestand last week time to heal.
-
Josh Sborz TEX RP
Rangers' Josh Sborz: Tosses scoreless frame
2h agoSborz threw a scoreless ninth inning in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.
Sborz, who was activated off the injured list Thursday, retired the side in order, needing just nine pitches. He was placed on the IL due to a shoulder injury April 7 after just three appearances. The back end of the bullpen has changed since then -- Kirby Yates replaced Jose Leclerc as the closer -- but Sborz should remain part of the setup group.
-
Anthony Davis LAL C
Lakers' Anthony Davis: Available to face Denver
1h agoDavis (back) is available for Game 3 against the Nuggets on Thursday, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
As has been the trend throughout the regular season and the playoffs, Davis appears in the injury report but then is listed as available closer to tipoff. Davis has averaged 32.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game in the first two games of the series against the Nuggets.
-
LeBron James LAL SF
Lakers' LeBron James: Available to play
1h agoJames (ankle) is available to play in Thursday's Game 3 versus the Nuggets, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
As is usually the case, James was carrying a probable tag prior to this update due to lingering left ankle soreness. James is not expected to have any restrictions as the Lakers attempt to pick up their first win of the series.
-
Mitchell Robinson NY C
Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Won't return Thursday
1h agoRobinson won't return to Thursday's Game 3 versus the 76ers due to a sprained left ankle, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports. He finished with two points and seven rebounds in 12 minutes.
Robinson carried a questionable tag into Thursday, and he seemed uncomfortable and a step slow for most of the evening before he left the game for good. Isaiah Hartenstein will likely be asked to soak up more minutes in the meantime. Robinson should be considered questionable for Game 4 Sunday.
-
Kyle Anderson MIN SF
Timberwolves' Kyle Anderson: Questionable for Friday
3h agoAnderson (hip) is questionable for Friday's Game 3 versus the Suns, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.
Anderson was cleared to play in Game 2 with this same right hip issue, but he never saw the floor. Instead, Nickeil Alexander-Walker played 31 minutes off the bench and Minnesota tightened up their rotation.
-
Joel Embiid PHI C
76ers' Joel Embiid: Good to go Thursday
3h agoEmbiid (knee) will start Thursday's Game 3 against the Knicks, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
Embiid carried a questionable tag prior to this update, but he seemed more than fine in the opening pair of games in this series. He made it through his usual warmup and there's no word of any restrictions ahead of tipoff, so he seems like a safe bet to handle his regular workload after logging 35-plus minutes in the first two contests of the series.
-
Daniel Gafford DAL C
Mavericks' Daniel Gafford: Listed questionable for Friday
4h agoGafford (back) is questionable for Friday's game against the Clippers, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports.
The questionable tag on Gafford is not surprising, as the big man missed Thursday's practice due to his lower back problem. If he can't go Friday, then Dereck Lively and Maxi Kleber are candidates to receive increased playing time.
-
Ilya Sorokin NYI G
Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Pulled in the second
12m agoSorokin allowed three goals on 14 shots before he was replaced by Semyon Varlamov in the second period of Thursday's 3-2 loss to Carolina.
Looking to climb out of a 2-0 hole in the series, the Islanders elected to switch things up and turn to Sorokin in net for Game 3. The 28-year-old netminder allowed two goals on the first six shots he faced in the first period and a third tally to Sebastian Aho 7:14 into the second before he was pulled in favor of Varlamov. Sorokin seemed to be the Islanders' unquestioned starter after signing an eight-year extension prior to the season. However, he was outplayed down the stretch by Varlamov, who took over the top goaltending job heading into the playoffs. Sorokin went 25-19-12 this year with a career-low .908 save percentage and 3.01 GAA.
-
Jesper Fast CAR RW
Hurricanes' Jesper Fast: Likely out for postseason
3h agoFast (upper body) is unlikely to recover before the end of the playoffs, coach Rod Brind'Amour told Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal on Thursday.
Fast was injured during the Hurricanes' regular-season finale April 16. He had six goals and 19 points in 73 contests in 2023-24. Fast is in the first campaign of a two-year, $4.8 million contract, so even if he does miss the remainder of the postseason, he likely hasn't played in his final contest with Carolina. The 32-year-old serves in a bottom-six capacity when healthy.
-
Matt Martin NYI LW
Islanders' Matt Martin: Expected to play Thursday
3h agoMartin (undisclosed) was in his usual spot during line rushes, indicating he'll play in Thursday's Game 3 versus the Hurricanes, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Martin has played on the fourth line throughout the campaign, so his presence in the lineup isn't likely to make a big impact in fantasy. The 34-year-old has no points, 19 hits and 21 PIM over his last 10 outings.
-
Haydn Fleury TB D
Lightning's Haydn Fleury: Out Thursday
4h agoFleury (undisclosed) won't return for Game 3 on Thursday, Chris Krenn of the Lightning's official site reports.
Fleury hasn't been in the lineup since April 6 because of the injury. He has a goal and five points in 24 contests this season. Fleury might be deployed on the third pairing once he's recovered, but it's also possible Tampa Bay would make him a healthy scratch.
-
Andrei Vasilevskiy TB G
Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: In goal for Game 3
4h agoVasilevskiy will guard the home goal versus the Panthers on Thursday in Game 3, Chris Krenn of the Lightning's official site reports.
Vasilevskiy has lost four games in a row, though the Lightning haven't scored more than twice in any of those contests. The 29-year-old will look for more goal support on home ice in Thursday's contest, as a loss would put Tampa Bay down 3-0 in the series.
-
Frederik Andersen CAR G
Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Set to start Thursday
5h agoAndersen is expected to start on the road against the Islanders in Game 3 on Thursday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.
Andersen won the first two outings of the first-round series while stopping 42 of 46 shots (.913 save percentage). He was fantastic in the regular season, posting a 13-2-0 record, 1.84 GAA and .932 save percentage in 16 appearances. The Islanders weren't particularly strong offensively during the 2023-24 campaign, finishing 22nd with 2.99 goals per contest, so Andersen should generally have the advantage over them.
