29m agoThe Falcons figure to be heavily reliant on Mooney and Drake London at wide receiver, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports.
The Falcons have sent multiple signals that they expect Mooney to bounce back from a quiet 2023 in Chicago, first giving him $26 million guaranteed on a three-year, $39 million contract and now waiting until the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft before taking a wide receiver (Casey Washington). There's no serious competition for the No. 2 WR job, though it is possible Mooney ends up a distant fourth behind London, RB Bijan Robinson and TE Kyle Pitts in terms of prioritization in Atlanta' offense. Still, it's not a bad spot to be in, especially for a thin, fast receiver who projects better as a deep threat than as a high-volume guy.

Dameon Pierce HOU RBTexans' Dameon Pierce: Expected to contribute this year
38m agoGM Nick Caserio said Tuesday that he expects Pierce to be "a big part" of the Houston offense this upcoming season, Tyler Milner of Sports Radio 610 reports.
The 2022 fourth-round pick ran for 939 yards in 13 games his rookie season but then managed just 416 yards in 14 games last year. Pierce nosedived from 4.3 YPC to 2.9, losing his starting job to Devin Singletary in the process. Singletary is with the Giants now, but Pierce nonetheless appear destined for a backup role after the Texans traded for Joe Mixon and gave him an extension. The team then waited until the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft to select a running back, taking a player (Louisville's Jawhar Jordan) who six months older than Pierce and might only be used as a kick return specialist. In other words, Pierce has a nice opportunity to keep the second spot on the depth chart despite his lousy performance last season, though Dare Ogunbowale remains a threat to get playing time in obvious pass situations.

Kwity Paye IND DEColts' Kwity Paye: Gets fifth year
4h agoPaye had the fifth-year option on his contract exercised Thursday, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Paye had a successful third NFL season in 2023, recording career highs across the board, with 52 combined tackles, including 8.5 sacks. He also forced and recovered two fumbles. The Michigan product should now remain an integral part of the Colts' pass rush for the next two seasons.

Eric Stokes GB CBPackers' Eric Stokes: 2025 option denied
4h agoStokes (hamstring) will not have his fifth-year option exercised by the Packers, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Stokes had a successful rookie campaign after Green Bay selected him in the first round of the 2021 Draft, but he's had trouble staying on the field since. The Georgia product appeared in just three games in 2023, while suiting up nine times in 2022. If he can remain healthy this season though, he should be able to make an impact in Green Bay's secondary and is expected to start opposite Jaire Alexander at corner.

5h agoFarley (back) will not have his fifth-year option exercised by the Titans, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Farley has struggled to stay on the field, missing all of his 2023 campaign due to a back injury, so the news doesn't really come as a surprise. He's also suited up just 12 times between his first and second seasons, making two starts and recording 14 combined tackles.

Mike Onwenu NE OGPatriots' Mike Onwenu: Staying at tackle
5h agoOnwenu is slated to be the Patriots' starting right tackle in 2024, Mark Daniels of The Providence Journal reports.
Owenwu has bounced around New England's offensive line playing guard and tackle for the last two seasons, but that is no longer the plan for the 26-year-old. The 2020 sixth-rounder recently signed a three-year, $57 million contract extension with the team, whose new coaching staff views the Michigan product as exclusively a tackle.

Merrill Kelly ARI SPDiamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Moved to 60-day IL
4m agoThe Diamondbacks transferred Kelly (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.
Kelly was placed on the 15-day IL on April 23 after sustaining a teres major strain in his right shoulder. Due to his transfer to the 60-day IL, Kelly will be on the shelf until at least the first week of July, and his rehab progress over the next few weeks will determine whether the right-hander will need more time beyond that window. Kelly started the season with a 2-0 record, 2.19 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 24.2 innings through four starts.

12m agoWalston was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.
It was a brief stint for Walston, who was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. He threw for 3.2 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five. The move corresponds with Arizona acquiring right-hander Matt Bowman from the Twins on Thursday, while Merrill Kelly (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Jimmy Herget LAA RPBraves' Jimmy Herget: Dealt to Atlanta
13m agoHerget was traded from the Angels to Atlanta on Thursday in return for cash considerations, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Herget will join Atlanta after being designated for assignment by Los Angeles on Sunday. The right-hander produced a 3.97 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with seven strikeouts over 11.1 innings in 10 appearances with Triple-A Salt Lake this season. Herget will report to Triple-A Gwinnett and look to impress in order to earn an opportunity with Atlanta's major-league roster down the road.

24m agoThe Rockies are set to place Lawrence on the paternity list for Colorado's upcoming series against Pittsburgh, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
With Lawrence expected to miss the upcoming series, the Rockies will likely turn to Jake Bird for save situations. Lawrence has two saves over 11 games this season with a 7.20 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 10 innings. Right-hander Angel Chivilli is expected to be called up from Double-A Hartford due to Lawrence being on the paternity list.

1h agoTorres went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Orioles.
Torres led off the sixth inning with a 418-foot shot to center field off Keegan Akin, cutting the Yankees' deficit to 7-2. While it didn't ultimately impact the final score, the home run was certainly a weight off of Torres' shoulders -- he'd gone 32 games without a long ball to start the campaign, a homerless streak of 53 regular-season games if you go back to Torres' last home run Sept. 7. The 27-year-old second baseman is now slashing a disappointing .218/.295/.274 to open the year with 15 runs scored, seven RBI and three stolen bases.

1h agoMountcastle went 2-for-4 with a home run, two total RBI and an additional run scored in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Yankees.
Mountcastle got the Orioles on the board in the third inning with a solo shot off Carlos Rodon, tying the game 1-1. He'd add a second RBI with a base hit in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-1, before scoring on a Jordan Westburg triple. It was a nice finish to the series for the 27-year-old Mountcastle, who'd gone 0-for-12 in the first three games against New York. The first baseman boosted his slash line to .290/.345/.495 with five homers, 16 RBI and 18 runs scored through 28 games this season.

This is not a surprise considering the situation the 76ers are in, as Philadelphia must win this game to force a decisive Game 7. Embiid is averaging 31.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 steals per game in the first-round series against the Knicks.

Mann hasn't missed a game since March 20, and he's averaged 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 30.0 minutes per game over the Clippers' first five playoff matchups this year. However, it's unclear whether he'll be able to suit up due to his lower leg issue.

Harris was already deemed a game-time decision for Game 6, so his questionable injury label isn't surprising. If the 29-year-old guard is ruled out, Caleb Houstan, Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony and Anthony Black are all candidates to receive increased playing time.

Leonard continues to deal with a knee injury and will be unavailable for a third consecutive game Friday. If the Clippers win Friday's matchup and force a Game 7, it's unclear whether Leonard would be available for that win-or-go-home matchup.

Knight has spent the entire 2023-24 campaign in the minors with the Checkers, logging action in 45 regular-season contests in which he posted a 25-14-5 record and .905 save percentage. Even with his promotion, Knight shouldn't be expected to get into any games, primarily serving as an emergency option behind Sergei Bobrovsky and Anthony Stolarz.

Johnston has been fantastic in the postseason, racking up three goals and three assists, including two power-play points, in five playoff contests. The 20-year-old center avoided the sophomore slump during the regular season, setting new personal bests in goals (32), assists (33) and shots (216).

6h agoRoy notched a pair of helpers in a 4-3 defeat to Edmonton in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Roy was able to bring a six-game pointless streak to a close with his two helpers but it wasn't enough to stave off elimination for Los Angeles. Unless the Kings can come to an agreement soon, the blueliner is set to be an unrestricted free agent July 1. Roy should have plenty of offers if he goes to the open market after reaching the 20-point mark for the third consecutive campaign.

6h agoGavriokov picked up an assist in a 4-3 loss to Edmonton in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Gavrikov ended the 2023-24 campaign stuck in a 17-game goal drought during which he put just 19 shots on net. During that stretch, the Russia blueliner did chip in five assists, including two in postseason action. Despite the slow end to the year, Gavrikov still managed to get back over the 20-point threshold after missing that mark last season.

Andreas Englund LA DKings' Andreas Englund: Delivers helpers in loss
6h agoEnglund recorded an assist in Game 5's 4-3 defeat to Edmonton on Wednesday.
Englund registered his first points since March 15 versus the Blackhawks, a stretch of 20 games without writing his name on the scoresheet. In 82 games this year, the 28-year-old blueliner managed one goal and nine helpers, reaching the 10-point threshold for the first time in his NHL career. Fantasy players probably shouldn't;t be expecting much more out of Englund heading into the 2024-25 campaign.
