2h agoThe Saints signed Patrick (calf) to a one-year contract Sunday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Patrick appeared in 23 games with 20 starts over the past two seasons with Chicago. The 30-year-old was the team's starting center for almost the entire 2023 campaign, but he ended the year on IR due to an unspecified calf injury. Whe the nature of this issue was never revealed, Patrick now appears to be healthy again. He should now provide depth along the interior of New Orleans' offensive line.

2h agoThe Buccaneers signed Jefferson on Sunday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Jefferson was one of 26 players brought in on a tryout basis during Tampa Bay's rookie minicamp Friday and Saturday. The 5-foot-10 running back played at four different schools during his collegiate career, beginning at Maine in 2017. He spent his final two seasons with Kentucky after a standout stint at FCS Sam Houston, where he logged 1,907 yards on 299 carries across two years. However, he finished with just 28 rushes for 184 yards across 11 games with the Wildcats in 2023.

6h agoThe Lions are signing Davis to a contract after he attended rookie camp on a tryout basis, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Davis was waived by the Cardinals in late April after spending most of last year on the team's practice squad. He was active for one contest during the campaign but didn't see any snaps. The 25-year-old will get a shot to compete for a roster spot among a wide-receiver corps that is headed by Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.

Olumuyiwa Fashanu NYJ OTJets' Olumuyiwa Fashanu: Recovering from quad injury
7h agoFashanu strained his quadriceps while running the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and could miss some or all of OTAs due to the injury, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Rosenblatt described the injury as minor, so Fashanu should be recovered well before the start of the regular season, but the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft may not be ready to join his new teammates at the start of offseason workouts. The offensive tackle out of Penn State has been working off to the side with trainers during the Jets' rookie minicamp.

1d agoDupree will sign a two-year contract with the Chargers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Dupree reportedly met with both the Falcons and Steelers recently in addition to the Chargers, and it appears that he'll end up with Los Angeles. The veteran edge rusher enjoyed a solid bounce-back campaign with Atlanta last season, recording 39 tackles (his most since 2019), including 6.5 sacks (his most since 2020). Dupree will add to an already formidable Chargers pass rush that also includes Joey Bosa (foot), Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu.

1d agoThe Panthers waived Parker with an undisclosed non-football injury Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The details and severity of Parker's injury are unknown, other than the fact that it did not occur on the football field. The cornerback will now be available to be claimed off waivers should any other teams show interest.

Josh Bell MIA 1BMarlins' Josh Bell: Three-run homer in win
14m agoBell went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, two walks and two runs scored in Sunday's 7-6 extra-win over the Phillies.
Bell was able to take Zack Wheeler deep for a three-run shot in the bottom of the third inning, giving the Marlins a 4-3 lead. The long ball was his fifth of the season and second of the month. The first baseman has produced a .270 average with two home runs, eight RBI and three runs scored over 37 at-bats in 11 games in May.

Dylan Bundy NYM SPDylan Bundy: Brings end to playing career
19m agoBundy confirmed Sunday in an interview with Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com that he filed his retirement papers over the winter and has ended his playing career.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, Bundy quickly rose through the Orioles' minor-league system and made his MLB debut as a 19-year-old in 2012, when he emerged as arguably the top pitching prospect in baseball. He would go another four years before he resurfaced in the majors, with Tommy John surgery and a shoulder injury keeping him off the field for all of 2013 and much of 2014 and 2015. Bundy enjoyed improved health from the start of the 2016 season onward, but he never fully regained the velocity he displayed as a prospect and often struggled to keep the ball in the yard. The right-hander ultimately appeared in parts of eight seasons in the majors from 2012 through 2022, posting a 54-65 record, 4.74 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 910.2 innings with the Orioles, Angels and Twins. Bundy had most recently spent time in the Mets organization in 2023, but he had been a free agent since July after he turned in a 10.08 ERA over 25 innings with Triple-A Syracuse prior to being released.

Braxton Garrett MIA SPMarlins' Braxton Garrett: Struggles in 2024 debut
21m agoGarrett pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight batters in Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Phillies.
Garrett got off to a slow start in his season debut, giving up three runs in the top of the first inning on a homer by Nick Castellanos. He then tossed four scoreless frames before two more runs came around to score while he secured just one out in the top of the sixth frame. The left-hander did impress in the strikeouts department though, punching out at least eight batters for the first time since June 22 of the 2023 campaign versus the Pirates. Garrett will look to produce a more well-rounded performance in his next start, which is tentatively set for Saturday at home versus the Mets.

1h agoRodriguez (shoulder) tossed a 30-pitch bullpen session Sunday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Rodriguez said that he felt good following the workout, but he acknowledged that he didn't know whether he would be cleared to face hitters the next time he throws, or if he would continue the ramp-up process with another bullpen session. After being placed on the 15-day injured list May 1 with shoulder inflammation, Rodriguez is eligible for activation Wednesday, but he looks like he'll need at least a little time beyond that before he's ready to rejoin the Baltimore rotation.

Santana took Toronto's starter Alek Manoah deep for a three-run shot in the top of the seventh inning, breaking a 0-0 tie. The homer was his seventh of the season and he has now gone deep in three consecutive seasons. Since May 5, Santana has gone 9-for-23 with three home runs, eight RBI and five runs scored over eight contests.

Kenta Maeda DET SPTigers' Kenta Maeda: Will need rehab assignment
1h agoTigers manager A.J. Hinch said Sunday that Maeda (illness) will require a rehab assignment prior to returning from the 15-day injured list, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Maeda was placed on the IL on Saturday with a viral illness, and Hinch noted that the right-hander's ailment was significant enough to keep him from playing catch over the last few days since he made his last start Tuesday in Cleveland. Though the 36-year-old is eligible to come off the IL as soon as May 23, the fact that the Tigers are already planning on Maeda needing a rehab assignment suggests that it's not a lock that he'll be ready to go when his 15 days are up. Maeda had gotten off to a rough start to the season prior to landing on the IL, going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 30.2 innings through seven starts.

Allen has missed six consecutive contests with bruised ribs despite being listed as questionable leading up to each contest. While he's been sidelined, Evan Mobley has slid to the center spot and Isaac Okoro has entered the starting lineup. Should that trend continue, Tristan Thompson would be lined up to fill the backup center role.

Mitchell seemingly picked up the injury during Cleveland's Game 3 loss, when he generated 33 points in 43 minutes of action. With Jarrett Allen (rib) also questionable, the Cavaliers could find themselves rather shorthanded for Monday's tilt. If Mitchell can't go, Caris Levert would likely enter the first unit, while Isaac Okoro and Sam Merrill could see more minutes off the bench.

Doncic lands a questionable tag for a second straight game as he battles a slew of injuries. Despite being banged up, Doncic has played at least 39 minutes in every playoff game, averaging 27.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 1.4 steals per contest. If he isn't able to play Monday, Dante Exum and Jaden Hardy would likely take on expanded roles.
