Titans' Chance Campbell: Back at minicamp
    11h ago

Campbell (undisclosed) was spotted participating in the Titans' minicamp session Wednesday, Nick Suss of The Tennessean reports.

Campbell was dealing with an undisclosed injury that forced him to miss the Titans' final 10 games in 2023, but it now seems as if he's past the issue. The 24-year-old linebacker played 67 total snaps (62 on special teams) and recorded three total tackles across four games last year, and he's expected to compete for a similar role this offseason.

The Jets waived Johnson (undisclosed) with a failure to disclose physical condition designation Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Johnson inked a deal with the Jets after going undrafted earlier in the offseason, but the team has now decided to part ways with the former Gamecock. The nature and severity of the 25-year-old defensive end's injury is currently unknown.

Titans' Jaelyn Duncan: Past neck issue
    11h ago

Duncan (neck) was seen working out during Thursday's minicamp session, Denny Simmons of The Tennessean reports.

Duncan missed the Titans' 2023 season finale due to a neck injury, but it now seems as if he's moved past the issue. The 24-year-old out of Maryland appeared in 10 games and played 365 offensive snaps during his rookie campaign. As the offseason progresses, Duncan is expected to compete for a depth role on Tennessee's offensive line.

Hawkins (wrist) was spotted participating throughout San Francisco's minicamp sessions.

He's expected to compete for a depth role in San Francisco's secondary as the offseason continues.

The 2023 fifth-round pick out of LSU missed the Vikings' final two games last season with an ankle injury, but it now seems as if he's moved past the issue. Roy will likely be competing for a depth role on Minnesota's defensive line this offseason after posting eight total tackles in 12 games during his rookie campaign.

Rockies' Jalen Beeks: Big improvement over Wednesday
    2h ago

Beeks picked up five outs for the Rockies in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals, striking out two while allowing no hits or walks between the eighth and ninth innings.

This was a major improvement vs. Beeks' outing Wednesday, when he allowed five earned runs in a blown save in the loss to the Reds, an outing where nothing was going right for the left-hander. The negative news for Thursday, however, is that the Rockies brought in the opposite-handed Tyler Kinley to get the save, as the latter picked up the final out of the game for his third save of the season. Beeks does lead the Rockies with six saves, and the team's closing situation remains as muddled as it has at any point this season. Five different players have saves for a team that's won only 22 games all season.

Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Smashes three-run homer
    3h ago

De La Cruz went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Thursday in an 8-4 victory against the Cubs.

De La Cruz turned a two-run Reds deficit into a one-run lead with a three-run blast in the third frame. The long ball was his second in three contests following a season-long 21-game homer drought. After tallying 13 homers and 35 RBI over 98 games as a rookie last season, De La Cruz is nearing those marks with 11 long balls and 32 thefts through 63 contests in 2024.

Reds' Hunter Greene: Fans eight in victory

Greene (4-2) earned the win over the Cubs on Thursday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight batters over 6.2 innings.

Greene gave up a pair of two-run homers but otherwise kept the Cubs off the scoreboard. The right-hander racked up 17 whiffs among his 111 pitches and gave Cincinnati 6.2 frames, marking the fifth straight start during which he's completed at least six innings. Greene ranks 11th in the majors with 77.1 frames on the season while recording a 3.61 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 84:32 K:BB.

Twins' Carlos Correa: Swats fifth homer
    3h ago

Correa went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Thursday's loss to the Yankees.

Correa got Minnesota off to a fast start with a solo shot off Marcus Stroman in the first inning. He added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to give him consecutive multi-RBI performances. Though Correa is batting just .217 (5-for-23) over his past six games, he's knocked in a hearty nine runs over that stretch.

Yankees' Trent Grisham: Snaps long hitless stretch
    3h ago

Grisham went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI on Thursday in an 8-5 win over Minnesota.

Entering Thursday, Grisham hadn't notched a hit in over five weeks, going 0-for-19 across his previous 11 games. He snapped the brutal slump in fine fashion against the Twins, hitting a two-run homer in the second inning to give New York its first lead. Grisham added a sacrifice fly in the fifth, though he also added another strikeout to his season stat line. Despite Thursday's performance, it's been an atrocious first season in New York for Grisham -- he's slashing a paltry .071/.216/.214 with a career-worst 31.4 percent strikeout rate through 51 plate appearances.

Twins' Pablo Lopez: Struggles with control in loss
    3h ago

Lopez (5-6) took the loss against the Yankees on Thursday, allowing seven runs on four hits and six walks while striking out four batters over four innings.

Lopez threw just 54 of 96 pitches for strikes and issued a season-high six walks -- more than he had handed out over his previous seven starts combined. Three of the free passes came to consecutive batters leading off the third frame, and all three of the recipients came around to score. The wildness was probably an aberration for Lopez considering his overall track record, but even when he's finding the strike zone, he's been struggling to get batters out. Over his past four starts, Lopez has allowed 21 earned runs over 20.2 innings, pushing his season ERA to a very disappointing 5.45.

Mavericks' Luka Doncic: Double-double not enough in Game 1
    5h ago

Doncic registered 30 points (12-26 FG, 4-12 3Pt, 2-5 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist and two steals across 38 minutes during Thursday's 107-89 loss to Boston in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Doncic was the Mavericks' best player by a wide margin in the Game 1 loss, but his efforts were not enough, and at times, he looked extremely isolated on offense, as if he was the only player trying to create something out of nothing. The Celtics suffocated him with intense marking and pressure all over the court every time he had the ball, and the rest of the Mavericks didn't do enough to warrant attention from the defense when Doncic managed to find an open teammate. Expect Doncic to continue having a high usage rate in Game 2 on Sunday, but his teammates will likely need to be more impactful if Dallas is to steal that game on Boston's homecourt.

Mavericks' Kyrie Irving: Struggles from field in Game 1

Irving finished with 12 points (6-19 FG, 0-5 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists and two steals across 36 minutes during Thursday's 107-89 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Irving was welcomed by loud boos from the crowd, and that continued every time he touched the ball. The veteran point guard didn't look like himself and had a rough outing, missing all five of his three-point attempts and struggling badly from the field. He'll aim to bounce back in Game 2 on Sunday.

Mavericks' P.J. Washington: Sniffs double-double in Game 1 loss
    5h ago

Washington closed Thursday's 107-89 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the NBA Finals with 14 points (5-11 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 4-6 FT), eight rebounds and one assist over 36 minutes.

The Mavericks struggled on offense all game long and didn't even reach the 90-point mark, but Washington was one of the few decent performers on a Dallas team that looked overmatched at times. Washington has looked comfortable being Dallas' third-best offensive player during this postseason run, but his efforts were not enough in this lopsided defeat. Washington has now scored in double digits in each of his last six playoff outings.

Celtics' Jaylen Brown: Fills stat sheet in Thursday's win
    5h ago

Brown accumulated 22 points (7-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 6-11 FT), six rebounds, two assists, three blocks and three steals over 37 minutes during Thursday's 107-89 victory over the Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Brown led the Celtics in scoring in the comfortable win, but he did more than just that, as he also left his mark on the defensive end and grabbed headlines with a posterizing dunk during the second quarter. Brown has been alternating with Jayson Tatum in the role of Boston's go-to player on offense, with the Celtics riding whoever has the hottest hand, and that was certainly the case with Brown in the series opener. He's now scored at least 20 points in five straight playoff appearances, representing his longest streak in the current postseason run.

Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Double-doubles in Game 1 win
    6h ago

Tatum finished with 16 points (6-16 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists and one block across 42 minutes during Thursday's 107-89 win over the Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Tatum took a step back on offense behind the impressive performances of both Jaylen Brown (22 points) and Kristaps Porzingis (20 points off the bench), but he delivered a strong fantasy line even though his shot wasn't falling. Tatum snapped a streak of eight consecutive outings with at least 20 points, but he should remain Boston's go-to player on offense, as well as a strong candidate for a bounce-back effort, in Game 2 on Sunday.

Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis: Shines off bench in return

Porzingis closed with 20 points (8-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and three blocks across 21 minutes during Thursday's 107-89 victory over the Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla wanted Porzingis to come off the bench in the first game of the Finals, and the star power forward responded admirably in his first taste of competitive action since April 29. It remains to be seen if Porzingis will move to the starting unit for Game 2 on Sunday or if he'll again come off the bench, but either way, his shooting ability and length on defense could be majors factors in the series, as was the case Thursday.

Pavelski said Tuesday that he won't play in 2024-25 and is likely to bring an end to his 18-year NHL career, Ryan S. Clark of ESPN.com reports. "This is it for me," Pavelski said.

While Pavelski didn't say outright that he was retiring from professional hockey, he acknowledged in his postseason exit interviews that he had known for a while that the 2023-24 season would be his last in the NHL. The second-oldest player in the NHL this past season, Pavelski remained a productive source of offense for Dallas, notching 27 goals and 40 assists while playing in all 82 contests. Before joining Dallas as a free agent in 2019, Pavelski served as a longtime captain for San Jose and represented the club in two All-Star Games. He added two more All-Star appearances to his ledger during his five seasons in Dallas and finishes his career with 476 goals and 592 assists over 1,332 regular-season games.
