Markus Bailey CIN LB
Cardinals' Markus Bailey: Inks deal with Arizona
1h agoBailey agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Tuesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
After four years in Cincinnati, Bailey will get a fresh start in Arizona. The 27-year-old accumulated 73 tackles (46 solo) across 60 games with the Bengals, primarily as a depth linebacker and special teams contributor. He will now look to impress in OTAs and carve out a role for himself with his new team.
-
Shakel Brown TEN DT
Shakel Brown: Let go by Tennessee
3h agoBrown (ankle) was waived by the Titans on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Brown spent all last season on IR, but he was waived without an injury designation, so he should be considered healthy moving forward. The 25-year-old was an undrafted free agent out of Troy in 2023 and was working to earn a spot on the Titans roster when he suffered the injury in a preseason contest.
-
Ryan Swoboda ATL OL
Ryan Swoboda: Gets cut loose
4h agoSwoboda (undisclosed) was waived by the Falcons with an injury designation Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Swoboda will revert to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed. At that point, he'll be forced to miss the entirety of the 2024 campaign unless he can reach an injury settlement with Atlanta.
-
Kyle Peko TEN NT
Lions' Kyle Peko: Finds new home
4h agoPeko (calf) signed a contract with the Lions on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Peko finished last season on injured reserve after competing in 13 games and recording 22 combined tackles. Now healthy again, the veteran lineman will get an opportunity in Detroit for his seventh NFL season. The Oregon State product will also have the chance to reunite with his defensive line coach from the Titans, Terrell Williams, who holds the same position now with the Lions.
-
Joe Burrow CIN QB
Bengals' Joe Burrow: Continues to progress
5h agoBurrow (wrist), who has resumed throwing, indicated Tuesday that he's fully cleared to do everything that doesn't involve contact, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Burrow, who is bouncing back from a procedure to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, started throwing again in April, noting that at this stage his focus is on mechanics like his footwork and arm path, as well as the "little intricacies of the throwing motion." While it remains to be seen when he'll be cleared for contact, Ben Baby of ESPN relays that the Bengals' franchise signal-caller feels as though he's "in a good spot" in his recovery process, and there's nothing to suggest that Burrow won't be ready to go well ahead of Week 1.
-
Daylen Baldwin MIN WR
Daylen Baldwin: Let go by Minnesota
5h agoThe Vikings waived Baldwin on Tuesday.
Baldwin spent the entire 2023 campaign on Minnesota's practice squad and inked a reserve/future contract with the team back in January, but he'll now have to look for an opportunity to compete elsewhere. His lone NFL appearance came in one game with the Browns in 2022.
-
Willson Contreras STL C
Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Suffers arm fracture
3m agoContreras fractured his left arm during Tuesday's game against the Mets, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Contreras had to leave Tuesday's contest in the second inning after his arm was struck by a J.D. Martinez swing. He will almost certainly spend an extended period of time on the injured list, leaving Ivan Herrera as the Cardinals' new primary catcher. Pedro Pages was pulled from his game at Triple-A Memphis shortly after Contreras went down and may be promoted to serve as Herrera's backup.
-
Willson Contreras STL C
Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Exits with hand injury
34m agoContreras was removed from Tuesday's game against the Mets with an apparent left hand injury, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Contreras was hit in the hand by a J.D. Martinez swing during the second inning of Tuesday's contest, and he appeared to be in a significant amount of pain before walking off the field. The 31-year-old backstop will almost certainly go in for X-rays, and the Cardinals should offer an update on his status in the near future.
-
Patrick Bailey SF C
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Nearing light activity
42m agoBailey (concussion) could start light baseball activity Wednesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Bailey was placed on the 7-day injured list with a concussion Saturday and is now on the cusp of returning to log some activity on the field according to manager Bob Melvin. The catcher will need to ramp up his work over a few days before he'd potentially be able to return to the lineup. In the meantime, Blake Sabol will likely continue to handle most the work behind the plate with Tom Murphy (knee) also unavailable.
-
Brayan Bello BOS SP
Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Returning Sunday
1h agoBello (lat) said Tuesday that he will start Sunday's game against the Nationals, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Bello made a rehab appearance Tuesday at Double-A Portland, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters across 2.2 innings. Despite his unremarkable performance, the right-hander said he came away from the start without any pain and is ready to return to Boston's rotation. Bello holds a 3.04 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 26.2 innings so far this year.
-
Xavier Edwards MIA 2B
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Moves to 60-day IL
2h agoThe Marlins transferred Edwards (foot) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Edwards' move to the 60-day IL will make him ineligible to return until May 27, though it remains unclear whether or not he'll be able to play by then. The 24-year-old has been slowly working his way back from a bacterial infection in his left foot that has kept him on the shelf since the beginning of the season.
-
George Soriano MIA RP
Marlins' George Soriano: Recalled from Jacksonville
2h agoThe Marlins recalled Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.
Soriano will come up from the minors to provide additional depth to the Marlins' bullpen as Roddery Munoz heads back to Triple-A. Soriano gave up eight earned runs in seven innings during his first big-league stint this year, so he will likely be limited to low-leverage work while in the majors.
-
Mitchell Robinson NY C
Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Out for the season
25m agoRobinson suffered a stress injury to his left ankle which will sideline him for at least 6-to-8 weeks, the Knicks announced Tuesday.
This is a brutal blow for the Knicks as it ends Robinson's 2023-24 campaign. Robinson will not need surgery and is expected to make a full recovery before training camp. Robinson made just 31 appearances this season, posting averages of 5.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 24.8 minutes.
-
Luka Doncic DAL PG
Mavericks' Luka Doncic: Good to go Tuesday
45m agoDoncic (knee) is available for Tuesday's Game 1 against the Thunder, Rylan Stiles of FanSided.com reports.
Doncic has been upgraded from probable to available Tuesday despite dealing with a sprained right knee. Doncic averaged 34.0 points, 13.5 assists, 11.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in 38.5 minutes across his two appearances against the Thunder in the regular season.
-
Jamal Murray DEN PG
Nuggets' Jamal Murray: Won't be suspended
1h agoThe NBA announced Tuesday that Murray will be fined $100,000 but won't be suspended after throwing a heat pad and towel on the court during Monday's Game 2 loss to Minnesota, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Murray tallied just eight points in Monday's 106-80 loss to the Timberwolves, and threw a heat pad and towel on the court in frustration. However, the star guard will be available for Game 3 on Friday, as Denver will travel to Minnesota looking to avoid a 3-0 deficit.
-
Rudy Gobert MIN C
Timberwolves' Rudy Gobert: Wins Defensive Player of the Year
2h agoThe NBA announced Tuesday that Gobert (personal) has been named the 2023-24 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
Gobert has now tied Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace for the most DPOY awards in NBA history with four. Gobert was the anchor Minnesota defense, which boasted a league-best 108.4 defensive rating. The defensive stalwart's 2.1 blocks per game ranked sixth in the NBA while his 12.9 rebounds per contest ranked second.
-
Jarrett Allen CLE C
Cavaliers' Jarrett Allen: Won't play Tuesday
2h agoAllen (ribs) has been ruled out for Tuesday's Game 1 against the Celtics, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Allen will miss his fourth straight contest Tuesday after being downgraded from questionable to out due to a right rib contusion. Isaac Okoro will continue to start in his absence. Allen's next chance to suit up is Game 2 on Thursday.
-
Mitchell Robinson NY C
Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Won't play Wednesday
3h agoRobinson is listed as out for Wednesday's Game 2 against the Pacers due to left ankle injury management.
Robinson logged 12 minutes in Game 1 but seemingly aggravated the surgically repaired ankle that has bothered him throughout the playoffs. Precious Achiuwa will likely receive increased playing time in Robinson's absence, while the latter's next chance to suit up is Game 3 on Friday.
-
Evgeny Kuznetsov CAR C
Hurricanes' Evgeny Kuznetsov: Healthy scratch Tuesday
1h agoAlthough an initial report suggested Kuznetsov was unavailable for Tuesday's Game 2 versus the Rangers because of an undisclosed injury, he is actually a healthy scratch, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com
Kuznetsov took a bad penalty in Game 1 on Sunday that led to a goal in what was ultimately a 4-3 loss to Carolina, which is why he's out of the lineup. The 31-year-old has two goals and four points in six playoff contests this year while averaging a modest 11:37 of ice time. Max Comtois drew into the lineup due to Kuznetsov being scratched.
-
Evgeny Kuznetsov CAR C
Hurricanes' Evgeny Kuznetsov: Not playing in Game 2
2h agoKuznetsov (undisclosed) won't play Tuesday in Game 2 versus the Rangers, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Kuznetsov has two goals and two assists in six games this postseason. He will be replaced in the lineup by Max Comtois.
-
Igor Shesterkin NYR G
Rangers' Igor Shesterkin: Set to start Tuesday
2h agoShesterkin is expected to start at home against Carolina in Game 2 on Tuesday, per Colin Stephenson of Newsday.
Shesterkin stopped 22 of 25 shots en route to a 4-3 victory over the Hurricanes in Game 1 on Sunday. He's opened the playoffs with five straight victories while allowing just 10 goals on 126 shots (.921 save percentage). However, the Hurricanes ranked eighth offensively in the regular season with 3.38 goals per contest, so they're likely to be a challenging adversary for Shesterkin.
-
Frederik Andersen CAR G
Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Gets starting nod
4h agoAndersen will defend the road goal during Game 2 versus the Rangers on Tuesday, Adam Gold of 99.9 The Fan reports.
Andersen struggled a bit against New York's potent offensive attack in Sunday's Game 1, surrendering four goals on just 23 shots en route to a 4-3 defeat. The Rangers will undoubtedly continue to be a challenging opponent for Andersen, but Sunday was just the second time the 34-year-old netminder has allowed four or more goals in a contest through 22 regular-season and playoff appearances combined in 2023-24, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him fare better in Game 2.
-
Joel Kiviranta COL LW
Avalanche's Joel Kiviranta: Set to miss Game 1
5h agoKiviranta (lower body) won't play Tuesday in Game 1 versus Dallas, according to Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now.
Kiviranta will miss his third straight contest. He wore a non-contact jersey during Colorado's morning skate before the start of the second round. He picked up one assist, nine hits and three shots on goal in three outings versus Winnipeg during the opening round of the postseason.
-
Elias Pettersson VAN C
Canucks' Elias Pettersson: Under the weather
6h agoPettersson isn't practicing Tuesday due to an illness, leaving his status for Wednesday's Game 1 versus Edmonton in doubt, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports.
After racking up 34 goals and 89 points through 82 regular-season outings, Pettersson was a bit of a disappointment during Vancouver's first-round series win over the Predators, picking up three helpers while firing just eight shots on net through six contests. Another update on his status for Game 1 will likely surface following Wednesday's morning skate.
