3m agoThe Commanders are declining the fifth-year option on Davis' (shoulder) rookie contract, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Washington took Davis with the 19th pick in the 2021 Draft, and while he's started 36 of 45 games through three seasons, his elite athleticism (4.47 40, 42-inch vertical) hasn't translated to elite performance. The 25-year-old likely will be a starter again in 2024 under new coach Dan Quinn, but it won't come as any surprise if this ends up being Davis' final year in Washington. He had season-ending shoulder surgery in December, potentially impacting his participation in spring practices.

15h agoElliott's agent will meet with the Cowboys in Dallas on Wednesday, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.
The two sides have been connected throughout the offseason, as Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported last month that Elliott and the Cowboys had mutual interest in a reunion. The Cowboys lost Tony Pollard to the Titans in free agency and only added end-of-roster types Royce Freeman and Snoop Conner to a running back room that includes Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis. Elliott played in all 17 games for the Patriots last season, carrying 184 times for 642 yards and three touchdowns while adding a 51-313-2 receiving line on 65 targets.

17h agoHendrickson recently requested to be traded from Cincinnati, a league source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Per Schefter, Hendrickson -- who is under contract for $15 million in 2024 and is on the books through 2025 -- is looking for more long-term security than the Bengals have been willing to offer to this point. The 29-year-old is coming of a 2023 campaign in which he recorded 43 tackles and made a major impact as a pass rusher by racking up a career-high 17.5 sacks over 17 games.

Micah Parsons DAL LBCowboys' Micah Parsons: Contract option picked up
18h agoThe Cowboys exercised the fifth-year team option on Parsons' rookie contract Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Per Gehlken, the star edge rusher will earn $21.32 million in 2025, but that salary may only serve as a placeholder before Parsons and the Cowboys are able to work out what's expected to be a lavish long-term deal. The 24-year-old is coming off another productive effort with the Cowboys in 2023, as he racked up 64 tackles and a career-high 14 sacks in 17 regular-season outings.

James Hurst NO OGJames Hurst: Announces retirement
19h agoHurst announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons on Wednesday, Katherine Teller of ESPN.com reports.
Hurst started 51 games between guard and tackle for the Saints since joining the team as a free agent after the 2020 season. Prior to his stint with the Saints, Hurst began his career with the Ravens in 2014 after going undrafted out of North Carolina. His retirement comes just one day prior to the start of the 2024 NFL Draft and leaves the Saints with a glaring need at left guard, though the team did reportedly have advanced warning of Hurst's decision.

Penei Sewell DET OTLions' Penei Sewell: Inks massive extension
20h agoSewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The 23-year-old right tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All-Pro honors. In addition to Sewell, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Clarke Schmidt NYY SPYankees' Clarke Schmidt: Powered to second win
6m agoSchmidt (2-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 7-3 victory over the A's, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.
The right-hander cruised through five innings before serving up a three-run shot to Brent Rooker in the sixth and getting the hook after 92 pitches (58 strikes), but the Yanks supported Schmidt with three long balls of their own. He's still looking for his first quality start of the season, but Schmidt has lasted five or more innings in four of his five outings, and he hasn't given up more than three runs in any of them. He'll take a 3.55 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB through 25.1 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Baltimore.

He's has now started just two of the previous six games for the Pirates and will yield to Joey Bart again Thursday. Davis is slashing just .180/.288/.230 with a 31.1 percent strikeout rate this season, and with Yasmani Grandal (foot) nearing a return, he could find himself back in the minors soon.

Taylor Ward LAA LFAngels' Taylor Ward: Blasts seventh homer
7m agoWard went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.
Ward followed up Mike Trout's solo homer in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run shot of his own just two batters later, bringing the Angels back within three runs of Baltimore. The outfielder now has five homers and 19 RBI in April, though he's gone just 4-for-26 (.153) at the plate over his last seven games. He's also failed to register multiple hits in any game over that stretch.

Darell Hernaiz OAK 3BAthletics' Darell Hernaiz: Call-up likely due to Gelof injury
8m agoHernaiz is a likely candidate for a promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas if Zack Gelof's oblique injury forces him to go on the injured list, MLB.com reports.
Gelof was held out of Wednesday's loss to the Yankees with what was originally described as abdominal soreness, and he was eventually diagnosed with a left oblique strain and labeled as a likely IL candidate. If that indeed comes to pass, it appears Hernaiz, who's hit .211 over his first six games with Las Vegas since his demotion last Thursday, would make a quick return to the big-league club. Hernaiz has experience at second base, third base and shortstop, and but he scuffled to a .103/.156/.103 slash line across his first 32 plate appearances to start the season before being sent down to the Aviators.

Joe Boyle OAK SPAthletics' Joe Boyle: Early exit in loss
11m agoBoyle (1-4) took the loss Tuesday, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks over three innings as the A's fell 7-3 to the Yankees. He struck out six.
The rookie right-hander needed 85 pitches (50 strikes) to record only nine outs, and while Boyle continues to miss bats, he isn't offering much else from a fantasy standpoint. He's issued at least three free passes in four of his five starts to begin the season, stumbling to a 7.06 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 24:16 K:BB through 21.2 innings. He lines up to make his next outing at home early next week against the Pirates.

2h agoGilgeous-Alexander had 33 points (13-19 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds, five assists and two steals across 35 minutes during Wednesday's 124-92 victory over the Pelicans in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
The Thunder secured a statement win in Game 2 of the series, and Gilgeous-Alexander was absolutely dominant en route to his first 30-point effort since April 9, when he exploded for 40 points in a win over the Kings. Gilgeous-Alexander should lead the Thunder in Game 3 on Saturday, and he's having an excellent series so far, shooting 55.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep in the first two games against New Orleans.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren carried the Thunder to a blowout win in Game 2 of the series, but Dort made his presence felt Wednesday and was an absolute menace from beyond the arc. Dort should remain a capable contributor as the series heads to New Orleans for Game 3 on Saturday.

Holmgren was expected to have a tough matchup while being guarded by Jonas Valanciunas, but the rookie has looked outstanding in his first two playoff contests, posting a double-double in Game 1 and delivering his best scoring output in more than a month in the second game of the series. Holmgren should continue to have a prominent role for the Thunder ahead of Game 3 on Saturday at Smoothie King Center.

2h agoValanciunas closed Wednesday's 124-92 loss to the Thunder in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 19 points (8-14 FG, 3-3 FT), seven rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes.
Valanciunas has been doing everything he can to slow Chet Holmgren down, and while that has proven to be a daunting task for the veteran, at least he's finding rhythm on the offensive end of the court. Valanciunas has now scored 13 or more points in his last three playoff appearances, and he should continue to experience an uptick in his usage rate with Zion Williamson (hamstring) still sidelined for Game 3 on Saturday.

2h agoJones chipped in 18 points (6-9 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and one assist over 36 minutes during Wednesday's 124-92 loss to the Thunder in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Jones posted his best performance of the current playoff run, including the Play-In Tournament, but his efforts were not enough as the Pelicans suffered a blowout 32-point loss to fall into a 0-2 deficit in the first-round series. Jones has scored in double digits in just four of his 12 appearances this month, and this 18-point output was his joint-best scoring mark since posting a 19-point effort on Feb. 23, so he's not expected to carry the Pelicans on offense in Game 3 of the series Saturday.

Ingram wasn't as dominant as he looked in the Play-In victory over the Kings, but he posted a better stat line than he did in the series opener while also embracing a higher usage rate since Zion Williamson (hamstring) was sidelined. Ingram has surpassed the 15-point mark in just two of his five appearances since returning to action in the regular-season finale, and the Pelicans need him to be at his best for Game 3 against Oklahoma City on Saturday.

Based on McMann's reported timeline, he won't be available for Game 4 on Saturday. Considering the winger has yet to resume skating with the team, his continued absence shouldn't come as a surprise. Prior to getting hurt, the Alberta native managed just one point in his last eight appearances, despite seeing time in a top-line role.

Fast will miss his third straight game, after he was injured in the regular-season finale in Columbus. The 32-year-old had six goals and 19 points in 73 appearances this season. His status for Saturday's Game 4 is still up in the air.

Carrick set up the first of Dylan Holloway's two goals in the game. The 32-year-old Carrick remains in a fourth-line role, though he could be replaced by Sam Gagner or Derek Ryan if the Oilers opt to mix things up. Carrick had 16 points, 92 shots on net, 167 hits and 102 PIM over 77 regular-season appearances between the Oilers and the Ducks.

Foegele has a goal and an assist through the first two games of the playoffs. He helped out on a Brett Kulak tally in the first period of this contest. Foegele has added seven shots on net, six hits and a minus-2 rating. The 28-year-old winger will have upside in DFS as long as he remains alongside Leon Draisaitl on the second line.

8h agoMcDavid recorded a power-play assist, three hits and two PIM in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Kings in Game 2.
McDavid didn't have much of an encore after a five-assist performance in Game 1. He was limited to a secondary helper on Zach Hyman's tally midway through the second period, as the Kings' defense did a better job of limiting his chances. The 27-year-old has four shots on net and six hits over two playoff contests, and he should continue to put pressure on the Kings even if it only leads to chances for his teammates.

Janmark helped out on both of Dylan Holloway's tallies in the game. Playing in a fourth-line role, Janmark shouldn't be expected to put up much offense in the postseason. He had just 12 points with 67 shots on net, 54 hits and 46 PIM over 71 regular-season appearances in a similar assignment.
