Graham Barton 2005 OT
Buccaneers' Graham Barton: Snagged by Tampa at 26th overall
4m agoThe Buccaneers selected Barton in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 26th overall.
Barton was an excellent left tackle at Duke but will likely play guard or center for the Buccaneers. Barton (6-foot-5, 313 pounds) has a close to maximum skills grade and supplements that with excellent athletic metrics (4.97-second 40, 7.31-second three-cone drill). Barton isn't a mauler like some of the other standout linemen in this class, but because of his technical proficiency and excellent movement he's able to seize land as a blocker even if he does it more by finesse than brute strength.

Jordan Morgan 2005 OT
Packers' Jordan Morgan: Donning the Green and Gold
9m agoThe Packers selected Morgan in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 25th overall.
Green Bay is set at quarterback and has a young corps at receiver, so the front office turned its attention to bolstering the offensive line. Morgan is a highly experienced player with 41 career games played and 37 starts, all of which came at left tackle. Scouts believe that Morgan can play tackle in the NFL but that his best fit would be at guard due to his 32.83-inch arms, which are in the eighth percentile among tackles. Green Bay can elect to have Morgan compete with Rasheed Walker at tackle or at either guard spot.
-
Terrion Arnold 2005 CB
Lions' Terrion Arnold: Picked 24th overall by Detroit
15m agoThe Lions selected Arnold in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 24th overall.
Arnold was widely expected to get drafted sooner than this, so it's arguably a steal for Detroit even though they traded up from the 29th selection. Cornerback has been a problem for years in Detroit and the 2023 season was no exception, so even if Arnold is a mere CB2 type for the Lions he would still make a significant impact. Then again, Arnold might have legitimate CB1 upside, especially with defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn on hand as one of the best cornerback coaches in the league. Although a bit skinny at 6-feet, 189 pounds, Arnold projects well in any coverage type and from any corner position after taking leading the Alabama secondary the last two years. He should be able to win a Week 1 starting role in Detroit.
-
Quinyon Mitchell 2005 CB
Eagles' Quinyon Mitchell: Selected 22nd by Philadelphia
30m agoThe Eagles selected Mitchell in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 22nd overall.
Mitchell (6-feet, 195 pounds) was the best player in a dominant Toledo secondary, a group that gave up only 29 passing touchdowns over their last 28 games. Mitchell has a fairly downhill game for a corner, boasting 4.33 speed and a willingness to dive headfirst into whatever is in his way, and with Philadelphia's pass rush that could make Mitchell a ballhawking threat. Mitchell intercepted five passes in 2022, returning two for touchdowns. Darius Slay is 33 and James Bradberry will soon be 31, so Mitchell might need to step up as the team's top corner soon depending on when Slay or Bradberry lose too many steps.

Chop Robinson 2005 EDGE
Dolphins' Chop Robinson: Reinforces pass rush in Miami
40m agoThe Dolphins selected Robinson in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 21st overall.
Christian Wilkins' departure may have made defensive tackle an obvious need for the Dolphins, but Bradley Chubb (knee) and Jaelan Phillips (Achilles) both suffering season-ending injuries late in the year necessitated some edge help if the right player was available. The Dolphins landed on Robinson, a disruptive pass-rusher out of Penn State who had 9.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss in two seasons at Happy Valley. Miami will have to tailor its scheme to get Robinson in the right alignment as he is just a touch under 6-foot-3 and 254 pounds. He has a motor and explosive athleticism (4.48 40-yard dash) but Robinson will need to develop his pass-rush moves as merely winning on athleticism will be difficult at his size.

Troy Fautanu PIT OT
Steelers' Troy Fautanu: Taken 20th overall by Pittsburgh
1h agoThe Steelers selected Fautanu in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 20th overall.
Fautanu was a dominant left tackle at Washington but he slipped in the draft order due to measuring in slightly under 6-foot-4 at the combine (6-foot-3 and 3/4). Fautanu will still be listed at 6-foot-4 and more importantly boasts above-average arm length (34 and 1/2 inches). Fautanu may very well be Pittsburgh's eventual left tackle of the future depending on where the career of incumbent left tackle Dan Moore goes from here, but in the meantime Fautanu should provide Pittsburgh with a major upgrade at guard.

Josh Naylor CLE 1B
Guardians' Josh Naylor: Records first steal
18m agoNaylor went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox.
Naylor has gone hitless in his last two games -- it's just the second time this season he's been held without a hit in consecutive contests. He was able to pick up his first steal in three attempts this year with his lone trip on base Thursday. Despite the brief slump, he's slashing .295/.366/.557 with six home runs, 20 RBI, 13 runs scored and five doubles over 101 plate appearances in a starting role at first base.
-
Brayan Rocchio CLE SS
Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Picks up steal in win
21m agoRocchio went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox.
Rocchio has gone 3-for-12 over his last four contests and continues to see a starting role at shortstop. He's yet to do much with the steady at-bats, slashing .205/.280/.301 with two steals on three attempts, four RBI, 10 runs scored, seven doubles and no home runs through 23 contests. With Gabriel Arias batting .280 in a utility role, it's unclear how much longer Rocchio will go relatively unchallenged for his spot in the lineup.
-
Hunter Gaddis CLE RP
Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Earns first win
25m agoGaddis (1-0) earned the win, allowing a hit in two-thirds of an inning without being charged with a run Thursday versus the Red Sox. He did not strike out or walk a batter.
Gaddis allowed an inherited runner to score, which cut the Guardians' lead to 5-4 at the time. He was able to escape the jam, and he was ultimately credited with the win despite being the third reliever to pitch after starter Triston McKenzie. Gaddis has not been charged with a run over 12.1 innings this season, adding a 16:3 K:BB and six holds across 13 appearances. The right-hander's strong start to the campaign has earned him a setup role, though Thursday's outing shows that he's trusted to work in any high-leverage situation.
-
Cody Morris NYY RP
Yankees' Cody Morris: Sent back to minors
42m agoMorris was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.
Morris was called up to the majors Saturday but did not make an appearance. He'll head back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he's allowed six earned runs and maintained a 9:6 K:BB across eight innings early on in the campaign.
-
Mike Clevinger CHW SP
White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Throws 60 pitches
1h agoClevinger allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three across 3.1 innings Thursday with Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Clevinger is ramping up his workload after signing with the White Sox a few days after the season began. He threw 60 pitches in his appearance Thursday and will increase his workload to 75 pitches in his next outing, which will also come with Charlotte. Assuming all goes well, Clevinger's third appearance of the campaign will come in the majors -- setting him up to debut around May 5.
-
Ryder Ryan PIT RP
Pirates' Ryder Ryan: Shuttled back to Indy
1h agoRyan was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Ryan has had success in the majors this season, maintaining a 3.00 ERA with a 13:5 K:BB across 12 innings. He threw 1.2 scoreless frames Thursday against the Brewers, so this move is likely just a roster shuffle to get a fresh arm in the Pirates' bullpen in the short term. No corresponding move was announced.
-
Anthony Davis LAL C
Lakers' Anthony Davis: Available to face Denver
2h agoDavis (back) is available for Game 3 against the Nuggets on Thursday, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
As has been the trend throughout the regular season and the playoffs, Davis appears in the injury report but then is listed as available closer to tipoff. Davis has averaged 32.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game in the first two games of the series against the Nuggets.
-
LeBron James LAL SF
Lakers' LeBron James: Available to play
2h agoJames (ankle) is available to play in Thursday's Game 3 versus the Nuggets, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
As is usually the case, James was carrying a probable tag prior to this update due to lingering left ankle soreness. James is not expected to have any restrictions as the Lakers attempt to pick up their first win of the series.
-
Mitchell Robinson NY C
Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Won't return Thursday
2h agoRobinson won't return to Thursday's Game 3 versus the 76ers due to a sprained left ankle, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports. He finished with two points and seven rebounds in 12 minutes.
Robinson carried a questionable tag into Thursday, and he seemed uncomfortable and a step slow for most of the evening before he left the game for good. Isaiah Hartenstein will likely be asked to soak up more minutes in the meantime. Robinson should be considered questionable for Game 4 Sunday.
-
Kyle Anderson MIN SF
Timberwolves' Kyle Anderson: Questionable for Friday
3h agoAnderson (hip) is questionable for Friday's Game 3 versus the Suns, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.
Anderson was cleared to play in Game 2 with this same right hip issue, but he never saw the floor. Instead, Nickeil Alexander-Walker played 31 minutes off the bench and Minnesota tightened up their rotation.
-
Joel Embiid PHI C
76ers' Joel Embiid: Good to go Thursday
4h agoEmbiid (knee) will start Thursday's Game 3 against the Knicks, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
Embiid carried a questionable tag prior to this update, but he seemed more than fine in the opening pair of games in this series. He made it through his usual warmup and there's no word of any restrictions ahead of tipoff, so he seems like a safe bet to handle his regular workload after logging 35-plus minutes in the first two contests of the series.
-
Daniel Gafford DAL C
Mavericks' Daniel Gafford: Listed questionable for Friday
5h agoGafford (back) is questionable for Friday's game against the Clippers, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports.
The questionable tag on Gafford is not surprising, as the big man missed Thursday's practice due to his lower back problem. If he can't go Friday, then Dereck Lively and Maxi Kleber are candidates to receive increased playing time.
-
Sebastian Aho CAR LW
Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho: Scores again Thursday
3m agoAho scored a goal on three shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Islanders.
Aho extended the Islanders' lead to 3-1 midway through the second period, beating Ilya Sorokin with a wrister from between the circles, the eventual game-winner in Carolina's one-goal victory. The 26-year-old Aho now has two goals and three points in his last two games after tallying 36 goals and 89 points in 78 regular-season contests.
-
Brock Nelson NYI C
Islanders' Brock Nelson: Nets first of the playoffs
18m agoNelson scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
Nelson cut the Islanders' deficit to 3-2 with 2:21 remaining in the second period, burying a rebound past Frederik Andersen, though New York would ultimately come up a goal short in the Game 3 loss. It's the first goal and second point for Nelson in the postseason. The 32-year-old center tallied 34 goals and 69 points in 82 games this year.
-
Frederik Andersen CAR G
Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Another win in Game 3
25m agoAndersen stopped 29 of 31 shots in Thursday's 3-2 victory over the Islanders.
After alternating starts with Pyotr Kochetkov late in the regular season, Andersen's now started each of the first three games against the Islanders, posting an excellent .922 save percentage while helping the Canes jump out to a convincing 3-0 series lead. The 34-year-old netminder figures to be back in goal Saturday as Carolina will look for an opening-series sweep in Game 4 on the road.
-
Semyon Varlamov NYI G
Islanders' Semyon Varlamov: Needed in relief
45m agoVarlamov stopped eight shots after entering in relief of Ilya Sorokin in the second period of Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes.
After Varlamov dropped the first two games of the series, the Islanders turned to Ilya Sorokin on Thursday in an attempt to change the momentum. However, Sorokin allowed three goals on Carolina's first 14 shots before the Isles turned back to Varlamov midway through the second period. The 35-year-old Varlamov managed to hold the Canes scoreless over the game's final 30:33 minutes, though New York ultimately couldn't find a tying goal, leaving Sorokin with the loss. Varlamov figures to be back between the pipes for Saturday's do-or-die Game 4. Despite the Islanders' struggles thus far in the series, Varlamov's posted a solid .915 save percentage in three postseason appearances.
-
Ilya Sorokin NYI G
Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Pulled in the second
1h agoSorokin allowed three goals on 14 shots before he was replaced by Semyon Varlamov in the second period of Thursday's 3-2 loss to Carolina.
Looking to climb out of a 2-0 hole in the series, the Islanders elected to switch things up and turn to Sorokin in net for Game 3. The 28-year-old netminder allowed two goals on the first six shots he faced in the first period and a third tally to Sebastian Aho 7:14 into the second before he was pulled in favor of Varlamov. Sorokin seemed to be the Islanders' unquestioned starter after signing an eight-year extension prior to the season. However, he was outplayed down the stretch by Varlamov, who took over the top goaltending job heading into the playoffs. Sorokin went 25-19-12 this year with a career-low .908 save percentage and 3.01 GAA.

Jesper Fast CAR RW
Hurricanes' Jesper Fast: Likely out for postseason
4h agoFast (upper body) is unlikely to recover before the end of the playoffs, coach Rod Brind'Amour told Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal on Thursday.
Fast was injured during the Hurricanes' regular-season finale April 16. He had six goals and 19 points in 73 contests in 2023-24. Fast is in the first campaign of a two-year, $4.8 million contract, so even if he does miss the remainder of the postseason, he likely hasn't played in his final contest with Carolina. The 32-year-old serves in a bottom-six capacity when healthy.
