Micah Parsons DAL LB
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Contract option picked up
1h agoThe Cowboys have picked up Parsons' fifth-year contract option, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
The move keeps the 2021 first-rounder -- who played the majority of his snaps at defensive end in 2023 -- under contract with Dallas through the 2025 campaign. Per Gehlken, the star defender's salary in his fifth NFL season will be $21.32 million. The 24-year-old is coming off another productive effort with the Cowboys, in which he racked up 64 tackles and a career high 14 sacks in 17 regular-season outings.

James Hurst NO OG
James Hurst: Announces retirement
2h agoHurst announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons on Wednesday, Katherine Teller of ESPN reports.
Hurst has started 51 games between guard and tackle for the Saints since joining the team as a free agent after the 2020 season. He began his career as an UDFA with Baltimore. Hurst's official retirement just one day prior to the start of the 2024 NFL Draft leaves the team with a glaring need at left guard, though the team did reportedly have advanced warning of the decision. With former left tackle/guard Andrus Peat still a free agent, O-line could be a target with pick No. 14 overall.
-
Penei Sewell DET OT
Lions' Penei Sewell: Inks massive extension
3h agoSewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All-Pro honors. In addition to the elite RT, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, both one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft kicking off.

Rashod Bateman BAL WR
Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Inks extension with Baltimore
4h agoBateman signed a two-year contract extension Wednesday.
Bateman was already under contract through the upcoming season in the final year of his rookie deal, but the Ravens had until May 2 to decide whether to exercise the receiver's $14.44 million team option for 2025. By reaching an extension with Bateman, the Ravens will no longer have to decide on whether to exercise or decline the option, as he's now on the team's books through 2026. The 24-year-old appeared in 16 of the Ravens' 17 regular-season games this past season, catching 32 of 56 targets for 367 yards and one touchdown. Despite Bateman's underwhelming production during his third NFL season, head coach John Harbaugh noted earlier in the offseason that he views the wideout as a candidate to "take a big step" forward in 2024, per Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site. The Ravens' pass-catching corps should look mostly similar in 2024 as it did in 2023, as No. 1 wideout Zay Flowers is entering his second season and standout tight end Mark Andrews is back in the fold, though Odell Beckham is currently a free agent and may not be brought back.

Alex Highsmith PIT LB
Steelers' Alex Highsmith: Restructures deal
4h agoHighsmith and the Steelers agreed Wednesday to restructure his contract and create roughly $7 million in cap space, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Highsmith is likely converting a portion of his base salary into a signing bonus, with Rapaport calling the move a "simple" restructure. The 2020 third-round pick notched a solid 7.0 sacks across 17 regular-season appearances in 2023, a far cry from his career-high 14.5 sacks in 2022, but he remains an integral part of Pittsburgh's defense for the foreseeable future.
-
Ja'Marr Chase CIN WR
Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase: Fifth-year option picked up
5h agoThe Bengals have elected to pick up Chase's fifth-year contract option.
With the expected move, Chase will remain under contract with Cincinnati through the 2025 campaign. This past season, the 2021 first-rounder recorded a career-high 100 catches (on 145 targets) for 1,216 yards and seven TDs in 16 regular-season games. The 24-year-old is thus poised to remain QB Joe Burrow's top pass-catching option for the next couple of years, and in that context Chase remains a top tier fantasy option at the wide receiver position.

Jose Siri TB CF
Rays' Jose Siri: Hits bench for second straight
5m agoSiri is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Siri missed time over the weekend after he was in considerable pain due to a kidney stone, but he rejoined the lineup for Monday's 7-1 loss to Detroit, starting in center field while going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. According to Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun, Siri still hadn't passed the kidney stone as of Monday, so the Rays could be electing to limit him out of an abundance of caution while he's still dealing with some bodily discomfort. Though he's out of the lineup for a second straight day, Siri should still be available off the bench. He entered Tuesday's 4-2 loss as a late-inning defensive replacement and struck out in his lone plate appearance.
-
Kerry Carpenter DET RF
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Gets day off
12m agoCarpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
The lefty-hitting Carpenter's absence from the lineup is likely a result of the Rays' plan to deploy southpaw Tyler Alexander as their primary pitcher out of the bullpen. With Carpenter on the bench for the first time since April 9, Riley Greene and Wenceel Perez will occupy the corner-outfield spots while Mark Canha serves as Detroit's designated hitter.
-
Colt Keith DET 2B
Tigers' Colt Keith: On bench Wednesday
15m agoKeith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Keith will cede the keystone to Buddy Kennedy, marking the rookie's second absence from the lineup in four games. The 22-year-old has opened his big-league career with a .165/.224/.177 slash line through his first 85 plate appearances, and his ongoing struggles could be starting to cost him some playing time.
-
Nolan Jones COL LF
Rockies' Nolan Jones: Held out of Wednesday's lineup
31m agoJones (back) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Padres.
Jones was removed from Tuesday's contest with back stiffness. It looks to be a day-to-day injury, but with an afternoon game coming Thursday ahead of Friday's off day, the Rockies could elect to hold Jones out of action until Saturday. Jake Cave is getting a start in left field Wednesday.
-
Kyle Hendricks CHC SP
Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Throwing off mound this weekend
35m agoHendricks (back) will throw a bullpen session this weekend in Boston, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.
The Cubs will map out a plan for Hendricks' rehab based on how he feels during and after the bullpen session. Hendricks was placed on the injured list Tuesday with a lower-back strain. Given his 12.00 ERA in five starts this season, the team might elect to give him ample time on a rehab assignment in hopes he can get back on track.
-
Hunter Goodman COL RF
Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Promoted by Colorado
44m agoThe Rockies recalled Goodman from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.
Goodman has crushed the ball at Albuqueque this season, slashing .298/.352/.690 with seven home runs and 10 doubles over 20 games. The 24-year-old managed just a .632 OPS in 23 games with the big club last season but has put up big power numbers throughout the minors. It's not clear how much playing time the Rockies plan to give Goodman, but he is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues in hopes that he gets regular reps in right field and/or at first base.
-
Ty Jerome CLE SG
Cavaliers' Ty Jerome: Won't play Thursday
1h agoJerome (ankle) will remain on the sidelines for Game 3 versus the Magic on Thursday.
Jerome is still recovering from ankle surgery and hasn't played since Oct. 27. Even if he's cleared to suit up during the postseason, he's unlikely to crack the rotation.
-
Jalen Suggs ORL SG
Magic's Jalen Suggs: Good to go for Game 3
1h agoSuggs (knee) isn't listed on Orlando's injury report for Thursday's Game 3 against the Cavaliers.
Suggs suffered a left knee sprain during Monday's Game 2 loss, but he returned in the second half and said he was fine following the contest. He was also able to practice Wednesday. The defensive-minded guard has totaled 22 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, three steals and a block through the first two games of the opening-round series.
-
Craig Porter Jr. CLE PG
Cavaliers' Craig Porter: Won't play Thursday
1h agoPorter (ankle) has been ruled out for Thursday's Game 3 matchup with Orlando.
Porter has yet to play this postseason, but he's a negligible part of the rotation. His next chance to wear a uniform will come Saturday.
-
De'Anthony Melton PHI SG
76ers' De'Anthony Melton: Questionable for Thursday
1h agoMelton (back) is questionable for Thursday's Game 3 matchup with New York.
Melton has not yet made an appearance this postseason, but he was able to practice Wednesday, so he does appear to be close. However, he'll likely have his minutes closely monitored once he is eventually cleared to return.
-
Joel Embiid PHI C
76ers' Joel Embiid: Considered questionable for Game 3
1h agoEmbiid is questionable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Knicks due to left knee injury recovery.
Embiid played 37 and 39 minutes, respectively, during the first two games of the series and totaled 63 points, 18 rebounds, 12 assists, two steals and a block during those contests. Despite the prolific stats, he hasn't looked 100 percent at times, but it'd be surprising if the reigning MVP didn't try to gut it out with his team facing a two-game deficit.
-
Giannis Antetokounmpo MIL PF
Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo: Still not scrimmaging
4h agoAntetokounmpo (calf) has started doing stationary jump shooting but still isn't running or cutting as of Wednesday, Shams Charania reported on FanDuel's Run It Back.
Damian Lillard had another stellar first-half performance in Game 2 but couldn't keep the Bucks close in the second half as the Pacers evened the series. Antetokounmpo's status for Game 3 on Friday likely won't be known until Thursday afternoon, but Charania suggests Milwaukee should be preparing to play without Antetokounmpo again. The MVP candidate has missed five straight games dating back to the regular season and hasn't played since April 9. However, if Antetokounmpo gets the green light, it's safe to expect he'll handle as many minutes as necessary in an attempt to keep the Bucks' postseason hopes alive.
-
Max Jones ANA LW
Ducks' Max Jones: Recovers from shoulder injury
2h agoJones has been cleared from his sprain shoulder injury, the team announced Wednesday.
Jones missed the final 11 contests of the season because of the injury. He finished 2023-24 with five goals, 15 points, 33 PIM and 125 hits in 52 outings. The 26-year-old is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, and Jones figures to maintain his bottom-six role with the Ducks if they agree on a new contract.
-
Ivan Prosvetov COL G
Avalanche's Ivan Prosvetov: Heads to AHL
2h agoProsvetov was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Wednesday.
Prosvetov had a 3.16 GAA and an .895 save percentage in 11 outings with the Avalanche during the regular season. He has also supplied a 2.33 GAA and a .921 save percentage across 21 minor-league contests.
-
Chris Wagner COL RW
Avalanche's Chris Wagner: Dropped to minors
2h agoWagner was sent down to AHL Colorado on Wednesday.
Wagner passed through waivers Tuesday in order to make him available for the Eagles' playoff matchup with AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday. Even though Wagner was a healthy scratch for the Avs' first two postseason contests, Wagner will likely come back up to the NHL ahead of Game 3 versus Winnipeg on Friday.
-
Brad Hunt COL D
Avalanche's Brad Hunt: Sent down to minors
2h agoHunt was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Wednesday.
Hunt hasn't played in either of the Avs' first two playoff games. With the Eagles kicking off the Calder Cup playoffs against AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday, the blueliner should be expected to link up with the minor-league club. Don't be surprised to see Hunt recalled to the Avalanche ahead of Friday's Game 3 clash with Winnipeg, though he figures to remain an emergency depth option.
-
Cam Talbot LA G
Kings' Cam Talbot: Set to start Wednesday
4h agoTalbot is expected to start on the road against Edmonton in Game 2 on Wednesday, per Tom Gazzola of Edmonton Sports Talk.
Talbot will seek revenge after allowing six goals on 44 shots en route to a 7-4 loss to the Oilers on Monday. He had a 27-20-6 record, 2.50 GAA and .913 save percentage in 54 regular-season appearances. Edmonton, which ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per contest during the 2023-24 campaign, will continue to be a challenging opponent for the veteran goaltender.
-
Thatcher Demko VAN G
Canucks' Thatcher Demko: Is week-to-week
4h agoDemko is regarded as week-to-week, coach Rick Tocchet told Thomas Drance of The Athletic on Wednesday.
Demko was a key part of the Canucks' regular-season success, posting a 35-14-2 record, 2.45 GAA and .918 save percentage in 51 contests. He also stopped 20 of 22 shots en route to a 4-2 victory over the Predators in Game 1 on Sunday. The Canucks will likely lean on Casey DeSmith during Demko's absence.
