2h agoThe Chiefs are optimistic Toney will contribute in 2024, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.
GM Brett Veach recently referred to Toney as "probably our most talented wideout," and coach Andy Reid said the 25-year-old is "arguably one of the most talented guys on the team." The implication, supported by Veach's comments, is that Toney's lack of playing time last season was largely a product of medical struggles, starting with a meniscus injury during training camp. The problem, of course, is that the health issues have been a constant, with the 2021 first-round pick missing at least four games in each of his three pro seasons and also seeing his snaps limited a number of other times. Toney has never recorded more than six targets or 30 offensive snaps in a game with the Chiefs, though he did have some big moments during the team's Super Bowl run at the end of 2022. An ongoing legal situation involving Chiefs WR Rashee Rice could open the door for Toney to get more playing time at some point in 2024, with his YAC ability potentially making him a good fit to see a lot of the quick passes Rice hauled in as a rookie in 2023. Fantasy relevance seems like somewhat of a longshot nonetheless, especially after Toney was a healthy(ish) scratch for the Chiefs' Super Bowl win over San Francisco in February.

2h agoMoore isn't a lock to make the 2024 roster, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher.
The 2022 second-round pick has averaged 1.4 catches for 16.5 yards through 30 regular-season games, mostly serving as Kansas City's fourth or fifth wide receiver. It won't be surprising if Moore ends up earning a depth job again, though his fate partially depends on how things play out with the 2024 NFL Draft, Rashee Rice's legal situation and Kadarius Toney's health, among other factors. Rice and free-agent signing Marquise Brown figure to play a lot when available, though neither can exactly be called reliable at this point in time. Even so, Moore's lack of playing time and production through two seasons suggests he's not the most likely beneficiary in the event things go south for Rice and/or Brown. The Chiefs seem more optimistic about Toney and Justin Watson, and they might devote an early draft pick to the position.

Jake Browning CIN QBBengals' Jake Browning: Signs through 2025
3h agoBrowning signed a two-year contract with the Bengals on Tuesday.
Undrafted back in 2019, the QB spent two years on Minnesota's practice squad and then two seasons on Cincinnati's. Browning finally got his shot in 2023, winning the No. 2 QB job for the Bengals and eventually replacing an injured Joe Burrow (wrist) for the final seven and a half games of the season. Browning played surprisingly well down the stretch, with 15 total TDs (three rushing) and seven turnovers (all INTs) while leading all qualified passers in completion percentage (70.4) and ranking fifth in yards per attempt (8.0). The 28-year-old's status as an exclusive-rights free agent this offseason essentially locked him into staying with the Bengals, and the two-year deal now sets him up to be a restricted free agent after 2025. His solid performance in 2023 --combined with 2-3 more years of team contract control -- could make Browning a trade target for QB-needy teams, though there haven't been rumblings of interest this spring.

10h agoDouglas posted 61 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 14 passes defensed, five interceptions, a pick-six and three fumble recoveries over 16 regular-season games split between the Packers and Bills.
The Bills acquired Douglas from Green Bay in a Halloween trade, and the veteran played a key role in helping the Bills turn around their season and win a fourth straight AFC East title. With Buffalo losing several key pieces this offseason, Douglas will remain a clear-cut starter and locker room leader entering his eighth NFL season. He's had four-plus picks in each of the last three seasons.

18h agoPhillips (pectoral) inked a one-year deal with the Texans on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Phillips spent last year on Cleveland's injured reserve due to a torn pectoral muscle. It was his second straight season-ending pectoral injury, as the same injury ended his 2022 campaign early. The 2020 third-round pick's addition to the Texans' offseason roster indicates his health is back to up to par. He will now compete for a role at linebacker in Houston.

21h agoWilcox signed a contract with the Patriots on Monday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
Wilcox now will call New England home after spending the first three campaigns of his career In Cincinnati. The 27-year-old appeared in all 17 regular-season games in 2023, mostly operating as the Bengals' No. 3 option at tight end and recording nine catches (on 12 targets) for 56 yards. If he can make the Patriots' roster this year, he'll likely be a depth option for them, too.

5m agoErceg (1-1) earned the win against the Yankees on Monday, firing two scoreless innings during which he allowed a walk and recorded a strikeout.
Erceg took the baton from starter JP Sears, who stymied his former Yankees squad over six shutout, three-hit innings. Erceg didn't miss a beat, locating 17 of his 26 pitches for strikes and serving as a bridge to a rare save opportunity for Mason Miller in the ninth inning. The right-hander now has five consecutive scoreless appearances, a span during which he's fired six scoreless frames while recording six strikeouts.

Matt Chapman SF 3BGiants' Matt Chapman: Records third steal
7m agoChapman went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in Monday's 5-2 win over the Mets.
Chapman is up to three steals this year, two of which have come over the last three contests. The third baseman has gone 8-for-24 (.333) with four RBI and six extra-base hits over his last seven contests. He's slashing .226/.280/.430 with four home runs, 14 RBI, 13 runs scored and seven doubles through 100 plate appearances, but his recent performances suggest he's trending in the right direction.

9m agoWinn went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
Winn has gone 3-for-13 with two walks, a double, a steal and two runs scored over his last four contests. The shortstop is in a starting role and leads the Cardinals with a .323 batting average. He's added an .824 OPS, four steals, six RBI, eight runs scored, three doubles and two triples, but he has yet to hit a home run this season. Winn should see a majority of the playing time at shortstop, with Brandon Crawford around to spell him occasionally.

Nolan Gorman STL 2BCardinals' Nolan Gorman: Breaks slump with walk-off blast
12m agoGorman hit a two-run, walk-off home run in his lone at-bat in Monday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
Gorman was given Monday off, but ultimately entered the game as a defensive replacement. His lone at-bat ended the game, as he took Kyle Nelson deep in the ninth inning to complete the Cardinals' comeback win. Gorman has four homers, 10 RBI, six runs scored and three doubles over 84 plate appearances this season, but he's slashing just .179/.238/.372 and striking out at a 38.1 percent clip, so he's not out of the woods yet. Gorman should continue to play against most right-handers, but he'll rarely be in the lineup versus southpaws.

Jonah Heim TEX CRangers' Jonah Heim: Returns from bereavement
17m agoThe Rangers activated Heim from the bereavement list Tuesday.
Heim was away from the club for two games while tending to more urgent personal matters. Sam Huff had been up briefly to back up Andrew Knizner, but he's now returned to Triple-A Round Rock with Heim set to resume his role as the Rangers' everyday catcher.

20m agoLeMahieu (foot) has said he expects to play "less than five" rehab games before being activated, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
LeMahieu is beginning a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. Assuming the Yankees concur with the infielder's assessment of how many rehab games he will require, it sounds like he could be back as soon as the weekend series in Milwaukee. LeMahieu has been out all season with a a bone bruise and non-displaced fracture in his right foot. Oswaldo Cabrera's production has slowed since a hot start, so LeMahieu should quickly regain his role as the primary third baseman.

2h agoPorter totaled 22 points (8-13 FG, 6-10 3Pt), nine rebounds, one assist and two steals in 38 minutes during Monday's 101-99 victory over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Porter sniffed a double-double for the second consecutive game after delivering a 19-point, eight-rebound effort in Game 1 on Saturday, and the forward continues to impact both ends of the court for Denver. Even though he doesn't get the same attention as Nikola Jokic or Jamal Murray, Porter is a key piece in the Nuggets' offensive scheme, and he's averaging 16.2 points with 7.3 rebounds per game in April, including regular-season contests.

2h agoJokic closed Monday's 101-99 win over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 27 points (9-16 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 7-7 FT), 20 rebounds, 10 assists and two steals across 41 minutes.
Jamal Murray might have grabbed most of the headlines after draining a buzzer-beating, game-winning shot to lift Denver to victory, but Jokic's contributions can't be overlooked, as the MVP favorite posted a triple-double while dealing with the menace of Anthony Davis on both ends of the court. Jokic extended an impressive run that has seen him record a double-double or a triple-double in each of his last 16 games, a span in which he's averaging 28.3 points, 13.4 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game.

2h agoMurray ended Monday's 101-99 victory over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 20 points (9-24 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, five assists and two blocks across 39 minutes.
Even though Nikola Jokic stole the show with a triple-double, it was Murray who ended up being the hero for the Nuggets, as his buzzer-beating fadeaway gave Denver a massive win despite the team trailing by as many as 20 points at one point in the third quarter. Murray has scored at least 20 points in each of his last six appearances dating back to the regular season, and the star floor general should handle a prominent role in Game 3 on Thursday as the series shifts to Los Angeles.

2h agoDavis ended Monday's 101-99 loss to the Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 32 points (14-19 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 39 minutes.
Davis has led the Lakers in scoring in each of the first two games of the series, but despite producing back-to-back 30-plus point efforts in the matchup against Nikola Jokic, the Lakers have fallen short of victory both times. Davis will likely land on the injury report ahead of Game 3, but given the situation and the workload he's handled in the first two games of the series, the star big man shouldn't have problems being active for Game 3 on Thursday.

James finished just two rebounds shy of a triple-double Monday, and even though the 39-year-old forward is competing at a high level, it seems the Lakers keep falling short against Denver. James has recorded at least 25 points, six rebounds and eight assists in the first two games of the series, and he should continue to have a high usage rate during Game 3 on Thursday.

3h agoRussell logged 23 points (8-16 FG, 7-11 3Pt), three rebounds and six assists across 39 minutes during Monday's 101-99 loss to the Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Russell delivered a much-improved effort compared to Game 1 when he notched 13 points while shooting poorly from the field (6-20 FG, 1-9 3Pt). However, his strong contributions were not enough Monday, as the Lakers wasted a 20-point lead and lost the game on a buzzer-beater from Jamal Murray. Nonetheless, the uptick in efficiency is nice to see from Russell, who should have a pivotal role on offense in Thursday's decisive Game 3.

16m agoGeorgiev was spotted in the starter's crease during morning skate, per John Lu of TSN, which will make him the likely starter Tuesday in Winnipeg for Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Georgiev's play was horrendous on Sunday, allowing seven goals on 23 shots in a 7-6 loss to the Jets in Game 1. The 28-year-old will look to bounce back in a big way Tuesday night in the tough atmosphere Winnipeg has. He will have to be better if Colorado has any chance in this series.

Derek Forbort BOS DBruins' Derek Forbort: Unlikely to play in Game 3
1h agoForbort (undisclosed) likely won't be an option for Game 3 against Toronto on Wednesday, per Conor Ryan of The Boston Globe.
Forbort, who is day-to-day, is still listed on long-term injured reserve. He will travel with the team to Toronto, so a return to action for Game 4 on Saturday could be a possibility. Andrew Peeke (finger) is week-to-week after being injured in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Maple Leafs, which could lead to Parker Wotherspoon or Mason Lohrei getting into Wednesday's lineup.

1h agoPeeke (finger) will not make the trip to Toronto for Game 3 or 4 and is officially considered week-to-week, ESPN's Kristen Shilton reports Tuesday.
Peeke recorded just one point in his last 15 games, so few fantasy players will be impacted by his absence. With Derek Forbort (undisclosed) having been recalled from a conditioning assignment with AHL Providence, he could be in line to replace Peeke in the lineup for Game 3 on Wednesday. Mason Lohrei was also called up from the minors and could be in the mix for minutes due to Peeke's absence.

1h agoSandin (upper body) will remain out Tuesday during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Rangers, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic.
Sandin had the best regular season of his career in 2023-24 based on points, registering three goals and 20 assists in 68 games played. He will likely slide into the first or second defensive pairing once he's given the green light.

Hellebuyck is riding a six-game winning streak, which includes a crucial Game 1 win despite giving up six goals on 46 shots (.870 save percentage). Considering the 30-year-old goalie is the heavy favorite to take home the Vezina Trophy as the league's top netminder, there is little chance of him being dropped from the starting role as long as the Jets are in the playoffs.

Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Won't play in Game 2
2h agoIorio (upper body) will not be an option for Game 2 against the Rangers on Tuesday, Jean-Francois Chaumont of NHL.com reports.
Iorio will join a growing list of blue-line absences that also includes Rasmus Sandin (upper body) and Nick Jensen (upper body). As a result, Lucas Johansen is poised to make his NHL playoffs debut. In his seven NHL games this season, the 21-year-old Iorio failed to register a point while chipping in just six shots, three hits and three blocks while averaging a mere 8:41 of ice time.
