27m agoThe Panthers signed Smith on Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Smith bounced back-and-forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster over the course of three-year NFL career, but he's now found a new home in Carolina. The 27-year-old defensive lineman has appeared in four games during his time in the league, recording 11 total tackles while playing 108 total snaps (86 defensive and 22 on special teams). He's expected to compete for a backup role on the Panthers' defense as the offseason advances.

Jared Goff DET QBLions' Jared Goff: Lands four-year, $212M extension
30m agoThe Lions signed Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The deal contains $170 million guaranteed, and Goff is now the highest-paid player in Lions franchise history. The 2016 No. 1 overall pick of the Rams, Goff was acquired from Los Angeles in the Matthew Stafford haul prior to the 2021 season and has resurrected his career under Detroit OC Ben Johnson. In three seasons with Detroit, Goff has completed 66.5 percent of his passes, up from 63.4 percent with Los Angeles, and has thrown for 12,258 yards with a splendid 78:27 TD:INT mark. He's lowered his turnover rate with Detroit and just helped lead the team to the NFC Championship Game last season. Goff is still just 29 years old and is locked in with the Lions for at least the next few seasons.

The 27-year-old running back out of Vanderbilt signed a reserve/future contract with the Patriots back in January, but he's now been cut loose. Vaughn has spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Buccaneers, recording 384 rushing yards on 103 attempts. This move comes as New England frees up space within the 90-man roster limit, and Vaughn will now seek an opportunity to compete elsewhere.

Nick Vannett LAC TETitans' Nick Vannett: Traveling to Tennessee

The veteran tight end has spent time with six different teams across his eight-year career, and he's now headed to Nashville after agreeing to terms with the Titans on Tuesday. Vannett most recently played with the Chargers, tallying 125 offensive snaps across eight games and recording one reception for three yards in 2023. Expect the 31-year-old to compete for a depth role in Tennessee's tight end room as the offseason progresses.

Ross Dwelley SF TEFalcons' Ross Dwelley: Finds new home in Atlanta
1h agoThe Falcons signed Dwelley (ankle) on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Dwelley finished last season on injured reserve after sustaining an ankle injury, but it now seems as if he's moved past the issue. After spending the first six seasons of his NFL career with the 49ers, the 29-year-old tight end has agreed to terms with the Falcons. Across his last three seasons, Dwelley has appeared in 41 games and made two starts, catching eight of his 12 targets for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Despite his underwhelming offensive production, the San Diego product has been a consistent contributor on special teams (619 special teams snaps over the last three years), and he's expected to compete for a similar role in Atlanta.

Cam Gill TB LBPanthers' Cam Gill: Staying in NFC South
2h agoThe Panthers signed Gill on Tuesday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
The Wagner product spent the first three seasons of his career with the Buccaneers and he will remain in the NFC South after inking a deal with the Panthers. Gill was a key special-teamer during his time in Tampa Bay, playing 768 special teams snaps (out of 952 total snaps) and recording 29 total tackles, including one tackle for loss and an additional 1.5 sacks across the last three years. He's expected to compete for another special teams role in Carolina, while also providing some extra depth to the team's pass-rushing unit.

4m agoAlmonte is getting imaging done on his right shoulder Monday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
The Cubs placed McGregor on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder strain. His last outing was May 7 against the Padres, during which he threw one scoreless inning while giving up a hit. The results of the imaging should give McGregor and the Cubs a better idea on the right-hander's recovery schedule.

Beau Brieske DET RPTigers' Beau Brieske: Recalled from Triple-A
4m agoThe Tigers recalled Brieske from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Brieske has spent all of 2024 at Toledo, holding a 2.95 ERA and 22:11 K:BB over 21.2 frames. The right-hander has been used exclusively in relief for the first time this season but has gone multiple innings in eight of his 13 appearances, so he could offer some length in Detroit's bullpen.

Shelby Miller DET RPTigers' Shelby Miller: Placed on 15-day IL
7m agoThe Tigers placed Miller on the 15-day injured list Monday, retroactive to May 12, with right ulnar nerve inflammation.
It's unclear how long this might have been an issue for Miller, but it could help explain his struggles lately in allowing five runs over his last three innings. Miller will be eligible to return later this month but it's uncertain as to whether he will be ready by that time.

Jordan Wicks CHC SPCubs' Jordan Wicks: Throws bullpen session Monday
10m agoWicks (forearm) threw a bullpen session Monday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Wicks was placed on the 15-day IL on April 28 due to a left forearm strain. He was cleared for mound work May 7, and the 24-year-old continues to make progress through his injury. One or two rehab starts for Wicks without any setbacks should give the Cubs the green light to bring the southpaw back into the rotation.

Vilade went 2-for-9 at the dish during his brief time in the majors. He's headed back to Toledo where he should play some at all three outfield spots.

Matt Manning DET SPTigers' Matt Manning: Recalled ahead of Monday's start
13m agoThe Tigers recalled Manning from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
He will draw a start Monday against the Marlins and should be set for at least a couple starts with the big club while Kenta Maeda (illness) is sidelined. Manning has been solid during his time with the Tigers this season, putting up a 4.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 17 innings through three outings.

Kornet was probable for Monday's matchup and will officially be able to suit up once again. Over the first three games of the series, he's averaged 3.0 points and 4.7 rebounds in 13.7 minutes per game.

1h agoMurray is questionable for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Timberwolves due to a left calf strain.
After a tumultuous Game 2, Murray and the Nuggets rebounded for back-to-back wins in Minnesota to even the series. While the calf injury remains a storyline for the point guard, Murray hasn't looked bothered by the issue over the last two games, as he's averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in 38.5 minutes. Murray is likely more probable than questionable for Game 5, but his official availability will likely come down to a game-time decision.

6h agoDoncic (knee/ankle) took part in the Mavericks' morning shootaround but remains questionable for Monday's Game 4 matchup with the Thunder in the Western Conference semifinal round, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
Despite carrying a questionable tag into Game 4, Doncic doesn't seem to be in any real danger of missing the contest. He helped the Mavericks claim a 2-1 series lead in Saturday's 105-101 win, pouring in 22 points (7-17 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 7-10 FT) to go with 15 rebounds, five assists and two steals across 40 minutes.

6h agoEdwards finished Sunday's 115-107 loss to the Nuggets in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals with 44 points (16-25 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 7-8 FT), five rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals across 45 minutes.
Edwards carried the Timberwolves on offense in Game 4, and at times, he did the heavy lifting all by himself. However, his impressive stat line was not enough to avoid a second consecutive loss at home. Edwards has scored 40 or more points in three of his last five playoff appearances, including twice in the current series. He'll aim to keep that run going Tuesday in Game 5.

6h agoConley contributed 15 points (5-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, nine assists and one steal across 34 minutes during Sunday's 115-107 loss to Denver in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Conley didn't have his best shooting performance, but the veteran point guard keeps finding ways to contribute even when his shot isn't falling. He's now scored in double digits in three of the four games thus far while dishing out at least six assists each time.

6h agoTowns posted 13 points (5-18 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds, three assists and one steal in 38 minutes during Sunday's 115-107 loss to the Nuggets in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Towns might have ended with a double-double, and his overall stat line looked decent despite the loss. Still, his shooting woes are impossible to overlook, especially in a game where the Timberwolves needed him to provide a spark on offense. Towns needs to be better offensively for the Wolves. Otherwise, he forces players such as Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley to handle bigger roles on offense, and that's not a recipe for success. Towns is averaging 18.5 points per game while shooting 50.9 percent from the field in the series, and he needs to shake off this woeful showing in Game 5 on Tuesday.

18m agoSoucy was suspended for one game by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday for cross-checking Edmonton's Connor McDavid in Sunday's Game 3.
Soucy received a two-minute penalty for cross-checking McDavid at the 20-minute mark of the third period in the Canucks' 4-3 win over the Oilers on Sunday. Noah Juulsen will probably replace Soucy in the lineup for Game 4 against Edmonton on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Soucy has four assists, zero shots on goal, nine blocked shots and 27 hits in nine contests this postseason.

4h agoOettinger will guard the road goal in Game 4 versus Colorado on Monday, per Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News.
Oettinger has won his last two outings, including a 28-save performance in Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Avalanche in Game 3. He has a 6-4 record with a 2.12 GAA and a .919 save percentage through 10 starts this postseason. If the Stars emerge victorious in Monday's contest, the team can take a commanding 3-1 series lead back to Dallas for Game 5 on Wednesday.

Hakanpaa sat out the final 13 games of the regular season and will miss his 11th straight playoff contest. It's still unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. Hakanpaa registered two goals, 12 points, 56 shots on net, 123 blocked shots and 196 hits in 64 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.

He'll try to help the Avalanche even the series up at two games apiece by picking up his sixth win of the playoffs during Monday's pivotal home contest versus Dallas.

Drouin has yet to play during the playoffs due to a lower-body injury. He practiced with the No. 1 power-play unit during Monday's morning skate, suggesting he could be closer to probable than questionable for Game 4 against the Stars. He collected 19 goals and 56 points through 79 regular-season contests.
