Najee Harris PIT RBSteelers' Najee Harris: Dropping weight for contract season
20m agoHarris' trainer said Friday the running back has dropped to around 235 pounds this offseason after playing at 242 during the 2023 season, and that he's increasingly motivated after the Steelers declined his fifth-year option, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
Harris is heading into the final season of his rookie deal with Pittsburgh, so there's no doubt about his motivation to log a productive year and earn sizeable payday for 2025. Playing at a lower weight could help Harris' efficiency metrics, and there's also some reason to be optimistic that he now finds himself in a better scenario than 2023, when he set new career-high marks with eight rushing touchdowns and 4.1 YPC. Rookie first-round pick Troy Fautanu should represent an upgrade to the O-line, and while there are question marks surrounding Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, both have the potential to command a more effective offense than Kenny Pickett did. Harris is capable of handling 20-plus touches but also dependent on volume to produce, making the emergence of Jaylen Warren the biggest threat to his fantasy prospects.

31m agoTagovailoa has reportedly missed most of Miami's team activities this offseason while negotiations on a potential contract extension continue, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports.
Coach Mike McDaniel and GM Chris Grier have both vocally supported the idea of Tagovailoa remaining with the Dolphins long-term, and an extension being penned this offseason, but it sounds like until that's official, the team may not have the quarterback's full participation. That said, Tagovailoa was confirmedly a participant in part of Miami's offseason workouts back in April, with Poupart noting that the team released videos of him throwing on multiple different days. There are no signs that Tagovailoa would consider skipping June's mandatory minicamp, and he himself has downplayed concerns about contract negotiations. As things currently stand, Tagovailoa is set to play out the 2024 season under the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

11h agoGreenlaw (Achilles) no longer requires a walking boot, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Greenlaw made a public appearance at an event in San Jose and discussed his recovery from Achilles surgery. He has previously said he hopes to be ready for Week 1, and his ability to walk without a boot is a small step in that direction. Greenlaw's level of participation at the start of training camp will be more telling regarding his availability come the regular season.

Flowers suited up for all 17 games with the Falcons in 2023. Now he's signing with his fourth team in as many years. The Jaguars are thin at cornerback behind Tyson Campbell and Ronald Darby, so Flowers could push for a significant role in 2024.

With Jordan Poyer having been poached by Miami and Micah Hyde eyeing retirement, Buffalo is understandably scrambling to restock at safety ahead of next season. Delaney recorded 25 tackles (17 solo) and two interceptions with Tampa Bay last year.

16h agoCleveland waived Diesch (undisclosed) with a failed physical designation Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Diesch signed with the Browns on Tuesday, but he's already done with the team after failing a physical. He'll now have to look for another opportunity to make an impression with a different team.

Javier Baez DET SSTigers' Javier Baez: Will not be benched
1m agoTigers manager A.J. Hinch said Monday that he has no plans to bench Baez, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
"He's going to play, a lot," Hinch said. Baez has again been one of the least productive regulars from an offensive standpoint in baseball, slashing just .167/.200/.222 with one home run over 135 plate appearances. He's hit only .223/.265/.346 since signing a six-year, $140 million contract prior to the 2022 campaign. Baez also has graded out poorly defensively in 2024 with a minus-4 Outs Above Average, although he was plus-9 in OAA in 2023 and the Tigers still seem pleased with his defense. With the underwhelming Zach McKinstry representing their likely alternative at shortstop, the Tigers appear willing to continue riding it out with Baez in hopes that he can rebound to at least a competent level at the plate.

Yainer Diaz HOU CAstros' Yainer Diaz: Starting to find some power
12m agoDiaz went 1-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Athletics.
Diaz has hit well for average this season, but he has struggled to find much power as he has just a .119 ISO. He's started to show more pop of late, tallying three of his eight doubles on the campaign in his last nine games. Despite the lack of extra-base knocks, Diaz has managed 16 runs scored and 21 RBI across 42 games and comfortably remains Houston's top option behind the dish.

24m agoSchuemann went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Astros.
Schuemann singled in his first at-bat before swiping his second bag of the season, though he would be left stranded as Oakland failed to generate any offense against a dominant Cristian Javier. The second baseman has now hit safely in five of his last six games, going 6-for-20 (.300) over that stretch with a homer, a double and four RBI. The stolen base was Schuemann's first since April 20 against the Guardians.

Elly De La Cruz CIN SSReds' Elly De La Cruz: Electrifying in win
42m agoDe La Cruz went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI, three runs scored and four stolen bases in Thursday's win over the Dodgers while also drawing a walk.
De La Cruz was a force to be reckoned with Thursday, reaching base five times and swiping at least one bag following each of his first three plate appearances. Those steals would lead to him scoring three runs in the contest, marking the third time this season in which he's accomplished that feat. It also marked the star shortstop's first four-hit game on the campaign and his third game with three or more hits. De La Cruz now has a whopping 30 stolen bases on the season following his first four-steal performance, sitting 13 ahead of the next closest player (Jose Caballero).

Joey Wiemer MIL LFBrewers' Joey Wiemer: Begins rehab assignment
1h agoWiemer (knee) went 1-for-3 with a run scored in his first rehab game with Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.
Wiemer has been out since early May with a left knee strain but has made enough progress in order to test things out in a game setting. Because he hasn't missed much time, Wiemer's rehab assignment shouldn't last more than a few days.

11h agoEdwards notched 27 points (8-17 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 7-8 FT), four rebounds, four assists and three steals in 34 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 victory over Denver in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Edwards bounced back from an ugly outing in Game 5 and led Minnesota in scoring in this pivotal matchup, as he looked far more aggressive than during his previous appearance. Edwards deserves credit for his constant off-the-ball movement as well, as his movements on the perimeter, coupled with the return of Mike Conley from a one-game absence, made things very difficult for Denver on defense. This was Edwards' fourth game with at least 25 points in the series, and he's expected to operate as Minnesota's primary offensive weapon in Sunday's do-or-die Game 7 at Ball Arena.

Jaden McDaniels MIN SFTimberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: Excels in Game 6 victory
11h agoMcDaniels notched 21 points (8-10 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 victory over Denver in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
McDaniels is not known for his scoring ability and often gets recognition for his defensive work. Still, he stood out when it mattered the most in this series and finished as Minnesota's second-highest scorer. McDaniels is not expected to hover around the 20-point mark regularly going forward, but this was an excellent showing in a game during which his team needed him to step up. In fact, this was McDaniels' second-best scoring output in the current playoff run, as he scored 25 points in the Game 2 win over the Suns in the first round.

11h agoTowns finished Thursday's 115-70 victory over Denver in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals with 10 points (4-10 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 13 rebounds and five assists across 29 minutes.
Towns had a couple of clutch buckets in the early stages of the game, but for the most part, he took a backseat in the scoring column as Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels carried Minnesota offensively in this win. The Timberwolves need Towns to be at his best if they want to have a shot at winning a complicated Game 7 on the road, and for that to happen, he'll need to be even more aggressive on the offensive end of the court, an area in which he hasn't been consistent throughout the series. Towns has reached the 20-point mark in four of the six games he's played in the semis, and the Timberwolves have gone 3-1 in those contests.

Nikola Jokic DEN CNuggets' Nikola Jokic: Can't carry Denver in Game 6
11h agoJokic contributed 22 points (9-19 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds and two assists across 36 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 loss to the Timberwolves in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Jokic delivered one of the best performances of his playoff career in Game 5 of the series, but he was unable to repeat those numbers in this woeful loss despite a respectable stat line. Jokic shot under 50 percent from the field for the third time in the series, and the Nuggets have lost every time that has happened. While the entire Nuggets offense must perform better in a do-or-die Game 7 contest on Sunday, Jokic will be the one who sets the tone early on.

Aaron Gordon DEN PFNuggets' Aaron Gordon: Solid play not enough Thursday
11h agoGordon recorded 12 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks in 28 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 loss to Minnesota in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
The entire Nuggets offense struggled in this game, as shown by the fact the team shot 30.2 percent from the field and 19.4 percent from three-point range in this Game 6 loss. Despite the collective struggles, Gordon found a way to make an impact with his two-way play, and he was also one of just three Denver players who scored in double digits in this loss. Gordon has been arguably the second-best player for Denver in this series, and he'll aim to deliver another strong showing in Game 7 at home on Sunday.

Jamal Murray DEN PGNuggets' Jamal Murray: Shooting woes too much to overcome
11h agoMurray recorded 10 points (4-18 FG, 2-7 3Pt), two rebounds, five assists and one steal over 33 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 loss to Minnesota in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Murray had been the catalyst of the Nuggets offense during this series, but he struggled massively Thursday, though the entire team looked overmatched from start to finish. There's no doubt the offense runs through Nikola Jokic, but it's also not a secret that Denver tends to struggle heavily when Murray is not at his best, and that has been the case in each of the three losses the Nuggets have suffered in this series. Murray will aim to bounce back in Sunday's Game 7, as the Nuggets need him at his best to avoid a monumental upset and keep their hopes of a title defense alive.

Kurtis MacDermid NJ DDevils' Kurtis MacDermid: Pens three-year contract
23m agoMacDermid agreed to terms on a three-year, $3.45 million contract with New Jersey on Friday.
MacDermid will remain with the Devils after joining the club at the trade deadline this last season. In his 16 appearances for the club, the 30-year-old winger managed just one point to go with 29 hits, two blocks and 50 PIM. The decision to give MacDermid a three-year deal does seem a little surprising when you consider he averaged a meager 4:22 of ice time. Looking ahead to next season, MacDermid probably shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy value given his limited minutes and lack of offensive upside.

8h agoDesharnais registered an assist, three hits and four blocked shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Canucks in Game 5.
The helper was Desharnais' first point since a two-assist game versus the Ducks on March 30. The 27-year-old defenseman has added 27 hits, 26 blocks, three shots on net and a minus-4 rating over 10 playoff appearances. He continues to play in a bottom-four role as a physical presence, so his lack of production typically won't have an impact on fantasy competitions.

The helper was Brown's first point in four playoff contests, and he's added two hits and a plus-1 rating. The 30-year-old has been limited to fourth-line minutes, which has given him few chances to contribute. Brown could be at risk of losing his spot in the lineup once Adam Henrique (ankle) is able to return.

The 30-year-old Kulak has provided steady defense from a third-pairing role, adding 17 blocked shots, 13 hits and a plus-1 rating. He's a staple in the lineup, but he rarely contributes much in the way of fantasy-relevant production.

8h agoDraisaitl logged an assist, two shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Canucks in Game 5.
Draisaitl extended his point streak to 10 games, though this was just the second time in that span he's been held to a single point. The 28-year-old has often looked like the Oilers' best player in the postseason, racking up eight goals, 13 helpers, 41 shots on net and an even plus-minus rating. He's earned 11 of his points with the man advantage and should continue to see significant ice time in all situations.

Janmark snapped a seven-game point drought with his first-period tally. The 31-year-old forward remains in a fourth-line role, so it's not unusual to see him go long stretches without offense since the Oilers lean heavily on their top players. Through 10 playoff outings, Janmark has a goal, two assists, seven shots on net, 10 hits and a plus-2 rating.
